They were the perfect team. If you want to see the opposite chemistry, watch Rodney on David Lettermans show. Dave is creepy and cringeworthy. I'm sure Rodney didn't appreciate his sarcastic attitude.
Johnny Carson was the consummate talk show host. He let his guests have their moment, never interrupting them or stealing their thunder. And with Rodney Dangerfield as a guest, Johnny was the perfect straight man.
God Bless you Mr Dangerfield for making a very young man laugh like no one else could, from the 70s sneaking downstairs to watch you on Carson to 80s in highschool to my days on active duty in the military:: God Bless Sir
Rodney Dangerfield Was A Genuine American Original. He Cracks Me Up When I Listen Too Him On My Phone When He Appeared on The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson
When I was a kid I got no respect, one year for Christmas my Father gave my brother a bow and arrow set, he gave me a sweat shirt with a target on the back. _ Rodney Dangerfield.
As someone from Pakistan I discovered Carson from Conan O Brian, Norm Mcdonald and Kevin Nealon and it is so refreshing! Having Rodney and Don Rickles coming to Carson is a real treat! Thank you!
@@robertschoenig6521 no it's not. Nobody laughed like Suzanne. Besides you can look up who Johnny's guests were on any given date....it's Suzanne Pleshette.
"Now I got no dog" Lmao The Man's delivery is perfect! In a interview Rodney stated during his 10 to 12 year hiatus from comedy, he wrote over 20,000 jokes on index cards. Imagine the material on those cards. I knew a landscaper who took care of Rodney's lawn in CT. Rodney lived next door to a man who operated several abortion clinics. My friend said [when Rodney saw this man he would shout out] "how are you killer". Brilliant, plus the fact it's true. Rest In Peace
The best thing is he's absolutely at the top of his game and in the top 3 best of all time, no matter who the other two are and most importantly he gets respected more then he ever could dream of!!! 👍😂
What's really crazy is those guys were the perfect comedy duo they could have made it big on the big screen given the right project movie it would have been one of the best comic Duos in America they're coming banter was right on and they had perfect timing for each other and I miss them both dearly I'm just glad we have these videos to watch over and over like I do
'What's the matter? Can't you think of anyone either?' is funny, sad and true at the same time - an extremely well-crafted joke about trying to keep things fresh and passionate in a long-term relationship. I think everyone recognises their own disappointments in Rodney's 'no respect' performance.
Johnny knew exactly how to work with Rodney .. today we can see this magic with Conan interviewing Bill Burr! Awesome stuff! Everyone needs to laugh more! A lot more… 😂
Just fun and laughs.... Rodney was the best..... johnny didn't get all political...he was also the best...why do all the guys on late now get political....not watching to hear your opinions...just laugh after a long hard day....miss this era.
Dangerfield had so much material that it extended beyond the set and went straight to the chair beside Johnny. Johnny doesn't say a word. It's just "ah...uh huh...wow..." I wonder if that part was planned ahead, or if Johnny quickly realized what was going on and decided to keep his yap shut.
No doubt how great Rodney was, but watch Johnny's genius, helping to set up Rodney's jokes. It was natural, unrehearsed and something that made great entertainers the greatest they could be. No host came close, though Ferguson and Letterman will tell you they learned from him.
John William Carson (Corning, Iowa; 23 de octubre de 1925 - West Hollywood, California; 23 de enero de 2005) fue un presentador, comediante, escritor y productor de televisión estadounidense.
At first, I was thinking that this wasn't his best material, but he saved a lot of the good stuff for middle-end. He does so many one-liners in one set that I guess all of them can't be fall out of your chair funny.
I love Suzanne Pleshette's laughter at Rodney's one liners!
I was wondering who the other guest was.
Yeah you do, perv ;) (me too)
She was really something too☺️
No respect... RIP Rodney Dangerfield one of the greatest comedians of the last century...🙂
The best Billy THE BEST
One of a kind. SO glad I got to see him on Johnny's show back in the day.
My brother saw him live on Johnny`s show in 1976. He just missed getting his autograph as two men stepped in front of him.
And not one f bomb
saw him at his club , he was great . plus personally shook everyone's hand and thanked them for coming . a great comedian.
Really? You saw me at his club so are you one hundred years old then
Legend! All the greats have left this world. 😔
Not ALL.....
My gosh... so much talent and so many laughs! We miss them both so much 'cause there is NOTHING and NO ONE out there these days that even come close.
I like how Johnny plays along with each joke, responding seriously before each punchline

Johnny was the perfect straight man. He set up a few jokes, but mainly just stayed quiet and let Rodney go. True professionals, both of ‘em.
Johnny was great how he just let Rodney go with minimal interruptions, just enough to get him going. Two greats!!!
One of the best things about Johnny was his ability to be the straight man and let comedians do their stuff. Don't know anyone who did it better.

Rodney Dangerfield - poster boy for ADHD. God I loved that guy. Dr. Vinny Boombotz. One of the best.
I love hearing Suzanne Pleshette's l a laugh from the couch. She was a character in her own right!
These guys were great, the real deal, real entertainment
We never saw her, but I know Suzanne Pleshette's laugh well enough to know she was on that couch.
It was the cigarettes. Or, after reading other posts, apparently Dom Deluise. I don't know which one would have been more offended by my comment.
She indeed was. Good call.
Ya, I knew that laugh sounded familiar.
Suzanne Pleshette was so helpful during Rodney's skit. And she was off-camera. He should have proposed to her right on the spot.

Add third rate comedians being political commentators
