I figured this would happen but they need to have add a free deposit option. I don’t care if it takes a week you should never be forced to pay to get your funds
Ebay needs this 3 days is more than sufficient for buyers
I would say 7 days is fair
@@RockstarFlipper agree not 30 days like what just happened where after 22 days they can return it
eBay needs to stop catering to clothes renters Amazon also 7 days for returns is being too nice
ABSOLUTELY! This 30 day garbage is absurd and 3 weeks to return!
"Returns for any reason" was the Dumbest idea ever!! What were they thinking? They forgot scammers and those people who, the only thing they know is buying and returning, buying and using for an event and return!!!
Except that’s what eBay already does when you can lie and say not as described. Not to mention you get 10 times longer to open a return and send it back
@ballbagchris6920 I guess in ebay case, you have the option to proof that item was sold as described with proof to counter the buyer claim. However, Mercari policy was " for any reason". I guess in the latter, you have no option against the buyer claim. That is the big difference.
@@Maymaymayok well I hate to break it to you but it makes no difference what evidence you have on eBay. I sell full time and you either have to accept the return or give them a refund no matter what. There may have been a time years ago where you could get a cs rep to close the case but they don’t even have that ability now
I got the email from Mecari earlier today. I appreciate your videos. Especially, on topics I don't hear about in email.
Thank you for the update. I left Mercari due to the changes they made
Might consider going back.
This type of unforced error is what happens when a company like Mercari:
1) Employs an operations staff largely comprised of people who don’t actually use the marketplace to buy/sell and have little to no exposure to user feedback
2) Empowers that operations staff to set major policies that deeply effect user experience
3) Organizationally siloes different “departments” to the point that a policy change this drastic gets proposed, workshopped, and deployed without anyone properly consulting customer facing staff, let alone regular sellers or even buyers
4) Has watched its market share plateau and decides that a radical change is needed to differentiate from eBay/amazon and hopefully kickstart growth
5) Is headquartered on the literal opposite side of the planet (Japan) from their largest market, where corporate culture is VERY different from the US in many aspects
6) Forgets the most basic of rules: if it’s not broken, don’t fix it!
Our sales went through the roof after the change in returns and shockingly we have not not had any returns. Yet!
Niceeee
I think they should let us decide do we want to split the fees 50/50, etc. or just lower your fees? Change it so you can pay a flat fee every month or something. Making buyers pay ALL OF IT including sellers fees, payment processing fees, etc was a bad move I think however it’s allowed me to go way lower on things and people feel they’re getting a great price.
I agree!
I agree. I think us sellers should pay the seller's fee and buyer the processing fee. Funds deposit should be free.
I wondered how long it would be before they reversed this ridiculous plan. This was quick. However, my sales have not really gone down which is surprising. We'll see how long before the buyer fee idea is rescinded. Tick tock.
Your channel is the first that comes to mind to get the facts. Thanks!
Thank you!! I try to stay on top of things
I personally doubled down on Mercari and started cross listing there a ton after changes. I got about 50 sales in first month and had 0 returns. My eBay return rate is like 3% so that was big savings on return labels. And the no selling fees made it to where I was making more on the items that sold on Mercari than if they had sold on eBay for same prices. So overall I was perfectly happy with the changes but obviously they must have negatively impacted some sellers or there wouldn’t have been as much complaining.
I agree and eBay we all know is for any reason too they just don’t “advertise” it that way. If eBay only gave 3 days for returns 99% of my problems would be gone. 30 days is absurd
Exactly right. Sticking buyers with such a high added fee is going to drive enough customers away to cost us all money anyways
I saw my sales jump, but I also gave more generous discounts to help buyers with those ridiculous fees. I still made a decent profit.
I love the new rule! I have been a long time seller and even with their updates I've sold quite a bit in the last 3-4 weeks so the buyer fees have not slowed down my buyers. As for returns.. knock on wood I never had any before or after the new rules.
Not only do I accept returns for any reason on ebay I also offer free returns. Buyer pays to have it shipped. I pay return for any reason. Every single return I've gotten except 1 (didn't like the color) was for fit. I have measurements in the description and also have pictures. I have never had a false INAD. I can understand some sellers were upset over the free returns on mercari but it wasn't anything new to me. I've never had a buyer "rent" anything from me. I don't sell things like special occasion clothes though. I sell a lot of women's business suits and dresses. I've been selling more on mercari since the change then I ever have. I am happy though they are changing it back. And Casey the buyers aren't paying upwards of $40 for a $20 item. My last sale was for $28.95. The buyer paid a $1.15 service fee, a $1.59 processing fee and $4.99 shipping. So their cost to buy my $28.95 item was $2.74 before shipping.
Too late, I already removed most of my listings. I can’t get over having to pay for my money to be deposited. I leave my listings that are so low it doesn’t matter. I was never making that much on them anyways. They needed to work on customer service first not make all these crazy changes that blew up in their face.
MANY people did the same
I never shop on Mercari but heard about their new return policy, I purchased a pair of slippers for my husband, they were way too small so I immediately opened a return but the process was odd, he return had to be "approved" by Mercari which was baffling to me and actually made me mad because I thought the return process was way too long complicated and dragged out. I finally received the refund but will go back to not shopping on there.
I didn't get the email, but when I opened the app I saw a popup notification about it. Great! I'm so glad! I'm new on Mercari and did NOT like that return policy! I was just almost scammed out of several hundred dollars on eBay because of a return issue so knowing Mercari had a ridiculous return policy like that made me cringe. I'm glad it's getting fixed!
Thanks, as always.
I am SO glad they listened to us! Honestly it’s one of the reasons I don’t wanna mess with Amazon and eBay.
Returns is apart of business.. people make tons of money on both ebay and amazon despite returns.. STOP tripping over dollars to pickup pennies.
You are hurting yourself and your opportunities by being afraid of returns
Stick to your garage sale app then, you’re not a real business person
@@RockstarFlipper it’s the renting and returning stuff that bothers me because I sell a lot of brand new stuff and then I can’t resell them.
I did over 350k in sales on Amazon even with returns last year i had around 400 returns
@@dnrmnr rude. Did I not just say I am sticking to the “garage sale” apps? You run your business the way you want, and I’ll run my spare time opperation that I fit in around my special needs kids and other stuff how I can at the moment. I can’t absorb the costs without it really messing me up. Maybe one day but not today.
The only thing I did not like was that we are only given 24 hours to inspect and refund the buyer when the item arrives. Most sellers have jobs and family to take care of and it's not a top priority to handle a return in a short time-frame .
I heard about it right after I had decided to crosspost some listings to Mercari. I thought "Oh hell no".
My Mercari sales were never good, so I didn't notice a difference.
I sell on mercari. I thought the return policy was a terrible idea. Now I'm just waiting for them to try to find a way to charge the sellers fees again after they did a hard push for everyone to drop their prices by 10%.
I was happy to find that email from them today. Good on them for realizing that change was a poor one---now they just need to rethink the added fees on purchases for the buyers.
Agreed with everything you said about it.
Thank you!
Good news!
I have considered starting to resell on Mercari and am now reconsidering. I agree with you on the return policy that would hurt sellers. Thanks for keeping us updated.
If Mercari has already backtracked on the return for any reason policy, nothing is off the table. While this may please sellers, buyers are going to be even more unhappy as this was one of the benefits that came with the new buyer fees. Just wait. As Mercari continues to lose buyers due to the buyer fees and now return policy reversal, I expect their no seller fees policy to be rescinded as well. Of course, the $2 ACH fee to sellers to withdraw their funds will remain.
Hi casey I was wondering how are you able to store inventory in your storage unit? I had to leave mine because the facility considered it loitering. I would only spend at most 40 mins to an hour at most to pull out items i needed to ship. I did nothing else there
I am glad they reversed the return policy although I have not had anyone return an item for no reason.
I never make money on Mercari. I basically give my items away on there.
Sucks Sorry
I agree with you as I expectsd some part of this to change. Now the question is how bad will sales tank?
Sales will not tank because of this.
I love Mecari. I've sold the majority there. I mean you got three days to rebuttal which to me is fair and as long as it's returned as sold. IDk 🤷♀️ I've never had a return so I guess we shall see. Thanks again for always keeping us updated 🩷
We are still being charged a 10% service fee, plus a payment processing fee. Wasn't Mercari originally charging a 10% fee?
Seen the news update on Mercari. Knew RSF would cover it in his daily reseller news!
Thanks for checking in!
👏 Way to go Mercari they listened and corrected their mistake.
Yes, I agree. Terrible ideas. Mercari should work on their platform like more photos allowed, less janky process in general.
So glad to see that leave. Luckily I wasn't affected by it. I am losing sales due to this fee situation even when I reduce my price to help cover them. I am still listing on there but the numbers have dropped off because when you pass off the buyers It makes it hard to sell things
I laughed this morning when I read it.
People on Facebook said people who did returns on mercari? The label to send back was paid by mercari not the seller? Not sure?
Yes Mercari paid the return shipping. I as a seller did not pay it on a recent return. They are offering buyers free returns.
@cindy7817 thanks! Probably why they changed it? Back, maybe?
The buyer fees are absolutely ridiculous. I’d rather pay the fees and actually have sales
Most people agree with you. SALES* in this example btw
I was just thinking that. Was like ..well they learned pritty quick. 🤣 I wonder how many sellers they lost, or how much money they lost in order for them to change it back so quick.
How mercari is even still around is shocking to me. They are brain dead in so many aspects of their business
Now reverse the $2 fee to get your own money transferred, and reverse the stupid buyer pays the listing fee.
This was a crazy policy and they did the only thing they could do to save face.
PRETTY MUCH
I bet the no seller fees will be reversed soon too. 😉
I dunno.. that might be stuck
I listed less things after that rule
ALL of the changes were dumb! What was the purpose? Absolutely nothing accomplished by the changes except I stopped listing items and thought about removing all of my listings. Still not sure. Buyers were asking me to lower my price and absorb the fees anyway. We will see how and if they can fix this shit 💩 show!
Too little, too late? The buyers that canceled sales over issues because of the extra costs are probably gone for good. Probably spreading the word on how screwed up Mercari is.
Agreed the damage is done
Stupid idea! They lost my trust so I left when this all first started and I won’t be going back. DONE. Ain’t nobody got time for that!
So many said the same thing, sad for them
Thanks for the info good to know and great video. I sell on Mercari
All of it is ridiculous and I for one as a buyer will NOT buy from that site!!!!
Mercari was a real player in the game before the original change and this new reversal. I think they have lost the trust of buyers and sellers alike at this point.
NOPE! Someone just screwed me on mercari for a freaking Smartwatch
We have left Mercari as sellers and will not be returning.
Look at my comments, so many people said the same thing it's CRAZY
Like they say "Common Sense" is rare anymore. lol
Seems like
One word Asinine
Mercari is still developing its identity lol
Mercari is trash. I no longer use it.
They did themselves bad.
Putting the fees on the buyer is good idea. The return for any reason was bad. I’ve read articles on women returning 95% of the items they bought. If you google this you will find the articles. I also read that models and photographers would buy something, use it, then return the clothes. And they had no intention of buy any of it. They just abused the return policy. Crazy what some people will do, but then they ruin things for the rest of the 95% who don’t return items.
I buy on mecari the fees aren't that much versus months ago
I bought a 9.99 poster shipping was 4.99 my total was $17.70 fees arent that bad
