Maryland is super expensive. I grew up in the state (Montgomery County) and can’t afford to buy my childhood home. Good luck if you come here. And, yes, the traffic sucks.
I was born in Montgomery County MD, I like the recreational and aquatic facilities, transportation, public schools, the extremely diverse community, the healthy community, and the job opportunities. But I will agree that the traffic, taxes, and commuting time sucks.
Moving out of Maryland this Sunday!!! cannot wait
I envy you. Run far! Run fast!
Congratulations!
Bye Felicia!
Get the TF on then
I hate living in Maryland...trying to move but it is hard.
I’ve lived in Garrett County for most of my life. Here in “Mountain Maryland” we sometimes feel cut off from the rest of the state, but most of us still take pride in being one of Maryland’s best kept secrets. We experience every bit of each season. Crime is low. Traffic is almost nonexistent. Schools are good. There’s lots to do outdoors from boating, to hiking to snow skiing. The only bad thing, is it rains A LOT. Something’s gotta be done about the rain and maybe the 7 months of potential snow! 😂
I'm 66 yrs old and have lived in the Baltimore area my whole life. I recently spent a few years in the Midwest for some investments, and it made me appreciate the comparatively milder climate of the Old Line State, which, BTW, MD has no natural lakes. We are wealthy because it's all government money, and yes, our unofficial motto is, If You Can Dream It, We Can Tax It." MD even taxes the rain, no lie. And really *no one* retires and moves *TO* Maryland.
Hogan killed the Rain tax years ago that the idiot O'Malley implemented. You are correct though, Maryland sucks and they rape you on Property Tax. Lived here 52 years and I can't wait to get the hell out. Tired of Democraps here in this crap state. We are looking for places in Missouri, Texas, and parts of Ohio.
People have been retiring to the Salisbury area in the last 20 or so years. The number of retirement/“active lifestyle” and assisted living communities has increased drastically as have the number of pharmacies. It’s just a guess, but it’s likely that quick access to the beach is an incentive to get family to visit.
😂😂😂😂 if you can dream it….. (Baltimore area)
@@sevenember3332 What he is saying is no one comes from other states to retire in Maryland. MOST people move out of Maryland to retire as will I. This state is ridiculously overtaxed and far too left.
@@pumpedupdart6859Taxes are the price we pay for a civilized society. As for the left, well me and my family don't have to worry about my wife or daughters healthcare options. Has worked well for us.
As someone who was born in Baltimore city and then went to school in Baltimore county ( Catonsville ) then went to Howard university in dc but moved to Montgomery county . The diversity in this state is insane . I miss Montgomery so bad but the housing prices are INSANE !!! I think my best bet is to move to a low cost state then save until I can actually decide where I want to raise a family
I live in Maryland, and I think that was a very fair and balanced presentation. Nice job !
Thank you!🙏🏼
I do pest control in Maryland. They're are very few copperheads and they are not a problem at all. They're not aggressive. She's just afraid of snakes.
I see them often at the billy goat trail at great falls
Copperheads and water moccasins, I have seen around Westminster.....they may be rare, but they are also deadly.
Yes, there are hardly any snakes that are venomous. Native central MD and practically grew up in Cumberland as my second home. Even there at the farm, and Mountain base never saw a dangerous snake.
There are a lot of them in certain areas. I've only seen one that I knew without a doubt was a copperhead. It was on the rear walkway, behind my house. I've lived her for 25 years, and it was the only one I've seen, so far. Ticks on the other hand...,
I've been warned about them since I moved here but haven't seen a copperhead once so far. A lot of black snakes and wolf spiders though.
Lifelong Marylander here. I love the state’s history. I love the state’s culture, I love the flag. I love the bay. I love crabs. I love the boating. I love the diversity of land. I love that we have both mountains and the ocean, the bay, the rolling hills in between it all, the rivers, the lakes, etc… However the biggest problem with this state is its governance. The rural and somewhat suburb counties are absolutely dominated and plundered by Baltimore City and its adjacent counties. I truly believe this state has corrupt people in its government and my evidence for that is how they have impossibly gerrymandered this state so that anyone who is not deep blue voter will never ever have a voice and will never get anything from the state that they might need. We are but tax cattle for the politicians who have manipulated the urbanites into granting them perpetual power, despite the fact that places like Baltimore only get worse and worse after nearly a century of absolute control by a single party. Just stop and think about how impossibly different places like Garrett county or most parts of the Eastern shore are from a place like Baltimore city. They have nothing in common, and the cities problems are not their problems, and the tax dollars of those of us in these areas will never be used for our benefit or for anything that people like us generally believe in. Meanwhile, taxes continue to go up, especially things like property tax, and it is truly beginning to feel like state sponsored piracy of which we are the victims. Sadly, there is absolutely nothing we can do about it other than leave which sucks because I otherwise love this state as I said. Now then, I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion, their own worldview, and of course their own vote based on their own conscience. I just wished the state government showed people like me that same respect and allowed us to have actual representation.
Very well put!
Everyone entitled to opinion.
In Pennsylvania it takes just 9 out of 67 counties to get elected governor.
@@frotobaggins7169 yeah that’s pretty bad. The system is broken.
@@lukerestlessstudios It is and that is exactly how they work the system. They suck up to those 9 counties and ignore the other 56.
I grew up in Bowie, MD, Prince George's county. That was in the 70's and I feel very fortunate to have grown up during that era and Bowie was a safe place with lots of families with kids. I believe that Bowie was named the safest city in MD not long ago! I spent 30 years in Anne Arundel county on a peninsula. Loved raising my family there. For the last 8 years, I've been living in Howard County in Columbia. I cannot pick which county I like the best because they all have pros & cons. The state is very expensive and traffic is a big problem at rush hour. But, you can swim in the Atlantic in the am & be in the mountains hiking in the pm. I love the diversity of this small state. Each county is different with lots to explore.

I hope you have tons of money because it is EXPENSIVE to live in those two places. I grew up in Silver Spring and it is great but ridiculously expensive now. Rockville USED to be reasonable when I was younger but now?? Completely built up and Way overpriced. The entire state is out of control rent wise now. It’s sad because it’s hard to find a reasonable and safe place to live there now.
If Maryland would stop taxing your retirement and social security, people would stop moving out to cheaper areas
You are right about people referring to counties instead of cities. In Southern Maryland we always made a point to let people know we are from SOUTHERN Maryland. It’s been years since I’ve lived in MD (moved out in 2008 to join the army), but even to this day people will ask where I’m from. I don’t say Maryland, I say Southern Maryland. People are shocked and wonder, “does MD have a South?” Yes it does! lol

The whole state is a fricking speed trap.

Lived in Maryland my whole life! Grew up in Anne Arundel, vacationed growing up at OC and up at Deep Creek Lake, then went to college on the Eastern Shore. I've had so many friends say "I hate Maryland there's nothing here" and I would say "you clearly have not traveled throughout Maryland". We have every season, we have the bay (and the Ocean), farmland, cities, forests, mountains, smaller cities/towns, we've got it all. I absolutely love it here but the only con is that it is getting pretty expensive. A lot of our family friends left and have wanted to come back but it's really hard to come back due to how pricey housing is and having to commute to DC or Baltimore to make enough (not everyone but most people I know).
Thanks for this video, it was a fun watch to see our MD get some love (:

However, I lived in Howard County.
Ellicott City was where I lived for 35 years after moving from Baltimore City.
Love me some Maryland and all that it has to offer. 😊
All that it has to offer is disingenuous, you know damn well you're not going to take a seat in the shitty part of Balitmore city or the gang infested zones around Montgomery County.
@@stephenkolostyak4087you have those same things in every state.
When I was young (c1960’s) Ellicott City was an “arm pit” - populated by Appalachian red necks - Hurricane Agnes marked its renaissance
Those in the far west are more Pittsburgh focused, and the Northeast corner actually is in Philadelphia's orbit.
In my opinion, I prefer Virginia over Maryland because of traffic, taxes, and lower population density. Maryland has a very high population density. However, Montgomery County is nice. [EDIT: Maryland's crime rate is higher, so that is another reason. You can thank that in Baltimore!]
Outside of a Military career, have spent my life in Maryland and was born here. Loved in Anne Arundel County but we moved to the Eastern Shore where the people and political clime is more to our liking. If you are considering Maryland as a retirement, be aware that taxes and cost of living is higher than most states. Very good hospitals and schools (outside of Baltimore) People are moderately friendly in Central Maryland but very friendly in the East, West and South of the State. We spent most of our childhood on the water, swimming, skying and most of all, crabbing. It was a wonderful State to be raised in and still is on the Eastern Shore. If you're Conservative, stay away form Montgomery, Howard, Anne Arundel Counties and the cities. Baltimore is especially dangerous if you don't know your way around the City. This has been our experience as Matylanders, born and bred.
Well said!
Love MD. Caryn I do hope you sing, because you have a beautiful speaking voice 👌🏽

A thought on the 'county specific' thing for MD:
Living in Maryland, one thing I found out (after looking up wiki pages sometimes and other government sources) is that the counties are essentially the main and sometimes the only form of local governments in most part of the state, much like how cities and towns function in many other states (especially moving up NE to other NE states, from PA to MA). The county governments from my understanding are the main provider for municipal services, such as public safety, utilities, schooling, planning, etc. While the largest city, Baltimore (city), is essentially its own county, most other areas are considered 'unincorporated', meaning they're not within a jurisdiction that's usually below a county, such as a town or even many cities. Including some of the more populated 'suburban' areas. Especially the suburbs of Baltimore & DC. If I remembered correctly, Howard & Baltimore counties have no incorporated municipal governments below the county, while Montgomery is pretty much the same. Even Anne Aurundel County is similar, in that famous 'places' in those counties are merely a 'neighborhood' of the county, such as Silver Spring, Bethesda, Glen Brunie, Ellicot City (literally a 'city' without a local 'city' government), Columbia, Towson, you name it. Some of the most famous places in PG counties are mostly incorporated, but still, there are famous, populated areas in PG county that is not. For example, National Harbor. In fact, I saw someone claiming that MD has one of the fewest number of local governments. Partly due to that probably.
This is especially interesting as when you cross the good old Mason Dixon line. Everything is essentially flipped. From PA to MA, those states are almost entirely incorporated. Every square inch of the land is part of a city, town/township, village, 'borough', or whatever they call it. But the point is there's essentially not a single area in ANY of the counties in those states that is not part of a 'local municipality'. And it usually is those local municipal governments under a county that performs local government services. In PA to NY the counties usually only have 'traditional' functions such as managing jails and courts, etc. While from CT to MA the county as a level of local government has pretty much been abolished from what I remember.
Although to me that doesn't mean saying certain people or things are in a specific county in those states doesn't make the most sense. For example, I found myself better at remembering the suburban counties for Philly & NYC in their own states than the specific town or 'city' or whatever local jurisdiction.
You do have cities within the counties. The city of Rockville is in Montgomery County for example
@@davidfreeman3083 I grew up in the town of Cheverly, in PG County. There is definitely a town government there that's very involved with things like trash pick-up and city planning. Sorry, my friend. I think your thesis isn't panning out so well.
@@CarynGardiner True, but consider this - Germantown, where I live, is the 3rd most populous “city” in Maryland, but doesn’t have any city government.
Maryland taxes you on EVERYTHING. While roads aren't the worst in the country, traffic and construction are horrible. If you live in Baltimore City (why?) you will have jury duty every year.
In terms of sports teams' affiliations, the western counties contain a lot of Pittsburgh sports fans, and the counties near Philadelphia, a lot of Philly sports fans. And lots of people transplanted from other states who follow the teams from their previous area. It's not all Baltimore and DC sports fans.
Philly transplant here. I'm a diehard Eagles fan.
I’m now retired, so the traffic is great…😂. Before that I drove in the traffic to the metro…a whole different battle itself, especially when it broke down or you get stuck for hours on the train in the tunnel. In addition to high property taxes, the income taxes are also high. They were and are still hitting us hard.
When I lived in Allegany County in Maryland. We never had seen any Red Light Camera or Speed Camera. For the first 2 years living in Texas. The City of Arlington had lots and lots of Red Light Cameras. I always tried to avoid Red Light Cameras. We finally got rid of them mainly because they were a reason and a cause for many accidents. One council member gathered lots of videos and it persuaded voters to rid those cameras and voted out a mayor who loved his red light cameras.
Grew up in Maryland, we never discussed county’s.
Where did you grow up and how old were you when you left?
As a Texan, it is hard to adjust "county-speak." We use cities to proximate location and hours for distance. The transition is a bit awkward.
An analogy would be crossing the border into Canada and using kilometers instead of miles. Not hard to adjust, just different from what you're used to.
We sure do. Lived here for 35+ years. Most of us say we’re from “Montgomery County Maryland” or from the “DC area” when talking to people who aren’t from here. If we’re talking to local people, then we say which town like Potomac, or Rockville, or etc.
@@d05wtt You nailed it perfectly. I live in Montgomery County too. I say those exact things.
@@CarynGardiner Baltimore area people NEVER discuss the county they are in. That seem to be more of a DC area thing. We in Baltimore say we are from (e.g.) ... Essex, Severna Park, Randallstown, East Baltimore, West Baltimore, Roland Park, Hunt Valley, Columbia, Ellicott City, Whitelock, Hamilton, Owings Mills, Reisterstown, Park Heights, Pimlico, Lauraville, Dickeyville Roland Park, etc.. etc... because we have hundreds of neighborhoods - including suburbs that are VERY distinct, different, and original. So you are half right forsure. I only hear DC metro folks say "I am from Montgomery County or PG County"... they will say "I live in Frederick, though. And definitely Western Maryland folks identify with their county. Eastern Shore people say they are from the Eastern Shore as one - Not so much Queen Annes or St. Marys unless you ask were their town is located.....and Southern Maryland folks seem to identity as one. But you definitely hit the mark with DC influence areas.
I grew up in MoCo but I live on the eastern shore now… huge culture difference
Yeah, I've lived in both areas too and one major difference is diversity vrs non-diversity.
@@cecilr7986 Diversity just means fewer white people. The population can be 100% black and that place will be 100% diverse.
I grew up in Maryland in Montgomery County. I still have one rental property in MD. I currently live in northern VA. I think MD is a wonderful state. People are nice, the variety of food is great, public schools are excellent, and overall I feel pretty safe in MD. Of course there are parts of Prince Georges County and Baltimore that I avoid, but overall it is a wonderful state. I did not realize how great the state is until I went away to college in North Carolina. Even though I lived in Raleigh, NC (an alleged big city) I figured out that Maryland has so much more to offer with regard to culture, food, nightlife, etc.
Yay Maryland!
Recently, my nephew and his wife put in a bid for an old, small starter home in the Bethesda area (I believe it was N.Bethesda). It sold for over its asking price and someone else got it. It was around 1,200sf and sold for over a million dollars.
I was born and raised in Maryland and left 23 years ago. Montgomery County is Lib central and is filled with Anger Addicts. High taxes, cost of everything is through the roof, congestion and poor leadership. No business or person should move to Maryland for any reason. All of the significant employers in the DC area are across the river in Virginia.
I’ve been to every state aside from Alaska, having spent a considerable time in many. There are pros and cons to many places but MD is great.
I agree!
Maryland is expensive I make 100k a year and hardly have money my pocket. We have mass drug problem here as well. And don't get me started the deer. Deer are destructive for farmers and cars. The farmers have plant extra just to cover for the crop damage
Grew up in Harford County and it was a great upbringing. I was always outside and hiking and swimming in the creek. Still in Harco, but not in the sticks anymore. I do miss it though.
Raised in Maryland, now living in Midwest. She's right about many people in Maryland identifying, or " claiming" D.C. as an inclusion. From my own personal experience, when I've explained to people that I'm from Maryland, they sometimes ( if not often) were geographically lost,or had a misconception that the cost of living was cheap, or a " true" southern state. To give them a better understanding...I would often bring up DC. The Nations Capital resonates.
The political diversity is real. I spent a few weeks out of each summer in the early 2000's with a relative that lived in PG County, and then Anne Arundel County. They voted blue for most elections and weren't happy about the results of the 2016 presidential election. Even so they loved Larry Hogan and voted him in 2018 in a pivotal midterm election. And this is what a majority of the state of MD did as Hillary won Maryland in 2016 and Hogan won the state in his 2018 re-election bid.
Living in New England the first time I drove out to Frederick, Anapolis, and eventually the eastern shore with relatives in MD it opened my eyes to the diversity of the state. Metro access into DC from specific areas of MD by DC are phenomenal. Camden Yards is my favorite ballpark made in the last 35 years (even though I am a Yankees fan). RIP to the ESPN Zone in the inner harbor which was a fun play to hang out as a kid.
No…Metro sucks. It’s always breaking down or repairing. And prices go up constantly with no improvement in service. And for most people, unless you live within a mile of it, you still have to drive to the Metro station.
Political diversity? 😆😆😆Hogan was a RINO. That's the only way a Republican gets elected in MD. Actual conservatives have zero power in MD.

Montgomery County was one of the first sanctuary jurisdictions in America. Within 3 years their schools were over enrolled.
Every morning I wake up, look across the Bay and smile because I don't live in Maryland.
But Virginia is trying hard to catch up.
I live in Montgomery County. My neighborhood has designated one lane of our 2 lane streets, bus lanes for buses that never come. Come September it’s a $150 fine if you drive in them.
Those lanes are as STUPID as the removal of lanes on Old Georgetown Road to convert them into bicycle lanes that don't really get hardly any use. That's the "smart" decisions made by stupid Montgomery county council prima donnas.
Then there are the lanes on very busy roads that they have taken from cars and given to bikes - and you almost never see bikes on most of those roads. Many decisions are driven by ideology rather than common sense.
@@joeterp5615 It makes sense when you think" Naked cash grab". My kids say why don't they just make them all bike lanes, and charge us $150 just to drive and get it over with?"

I agree with @zachbrewermusic, most people are arrogant/entitled here. In WV and other states people will say hi when you pass them out walking in the neighborhood and such, not here lol I guess it could be from all the traffic they have to deal with which puts them in bad moods.
Mostly true! (but there are a few nice people in my neighborhood). I live in Montgomery County, but just bought a piece of land in the mountains of West Virginia - when stopping at the one store/restaurant within 20 minutes of the property, everyone is so friendly!
Traffic is worse in other places like Los Angeles, but people in Maryland drive like assholes. Tailgating, loud engines, honking to rush other drivers or otherwise get them out of their way. I remembered that story of the Army Lieutenant from Bowie State who was stabbed by drunk UMD student because he wouldn't walk out of his way. There is something wrong with the people in Maryland.
@@cryora yep I agree, that’s why I just moved out of the state
Spot on about counties. I say Harford County to people who have no clue what the counties are out of habit.
My son keeps telling me dad move down to Maryland. Im originally from Connecticut, but live in Florida. i never been there but would love to give it a shot! hows the cost of living?
Come visit! I have several videos on cost of living but it really depends on where in Maryland
I would like a purple county with my side of crabs.
I left Maryland in September. Don’t miss it at all.
Virginia is in a Better Place Now, but the dems are sharping their lies.
TEXAS IS GOING TO HAPPEN
Just got back to Maryland God I love it here and forgot how much I missed it.
Maryland does not miss you at all either. It is a better state without you residing in it!
Me too. Maryland is my home and I didn’t want to leave but it was becoming unsustainable to live there with high cost of living and insane taxes. I have a young family and it was getting hard to support them. Both my wife and I worked at the time and made over 160000 combined income and we’re STILL having a hard time just getting by (not taking expensive vacations, buying frivolous BS, etc) we are just talking necessities like bills and keeping the lights on. Moved next door to West VA and now I’m the only one working and my wife was able to quit her job and stay home with the kids like we wanted to do in the first place. It simply wouldn’t have been feasible in MD.
Incompetent mayor and governor.
If You can dream it, they can tax it.
I want to move out. I would love to move back to Pennsylvania.
Wootton !!! Native of MoCo , got the hell out of that county . Was a good solid county 80s90s not anymore.
Within Montgomery county you see the closer you get to the beltway the more democratic, where the north leans more republican….Maryland a state that is a mix of everything I feel.
Maryland has the worst drivers.
You’re not wrong! 😂😂😂
Damn I thought the speed camera thing was more of a Europe thing. That's too bad.
The Delmarva is really nice but you could not pay me to ever live in Maryland.
I prefer California over Maryland. People in Maryland are just not as friendly. Plus everyone I meet on the East Coast assumes I'm an immigrant. I don't get that in the West Coast because American born Asians are more common.
I thank you sincerely for your warning about Maryland. My wife and I had plans to buy a property and make it our home. We live in Lima, Peru, and Maryland felt like a good fit for us. Your warning about all the snakes, ticks, cop cameras, and a multitude of Republicans told us Maryland is a good place to be from.
I love Maryland! You’ll find these things in a lot of places
I grew up in Detroit. Maryland is heaven.
I went to school in Ann Arbor!
@@CarynGardiner Ann Arbor ain’t Detroit, that’s for sure.
You left out a few key political talking points. Maryland maybe politically diverse, but it is still one of the top 3 or 5 most liberal states in the country. It’s roughly 2/3 Democrats and 1/3 Republican. Republicans like Governor Hogan or Ehrlich win because they’re more centrist than conservative.
Please Note: There is a Distinct cultural difference between Baltimore CITY and various Counties in MD. Everything from Urban Crime to Farming conservative in the counties.
If you are from New York, New Jersey, African American or Spanish it's perfect for you.
Weird of you to bring that up
Nah, you go
Nice try
Hey bud I think you meant Hispanic or Latino. Spanish is a language just like English is.
@@CarlosVazquez_301 he must’ve meant ppl from Spain. They are called Spanish
@@arjbuitrago3063 people from Spain are called Spaniards… lol
I didn’t realize people move places based on political leaning. Our home search in Maryland was based on balancing successful school districts to our budget, amongst other things. Never even considered politics as a factor. Interesting… 🤔
You haven't been paying attention to all the people leaving California, New York City, Connecticut, Chicago areas for political reasons, liberal policies.
People are moving to Florida, Texas, Arizona, the Carolinas, , Vermont, etc.
@@mrss4328 no I’m aware of the tax movement by state but most of the counties in MD don’t vary in taxes that much unless.
@@mrss4328good luck in FL, check out the insurance rates lol. Hard pass, talk about bad policies.
I moved out of Maryland in 2016. I do miss it. Got too expensive. Grew up in Frederick County.
Coming back from the west coast and hawaii and I am blown away at how affordable it is. I totally forgot.
@OpalDruscilla interesting, I just moved here after 10 years in Hawaii, and I can't tell much of a difference in terms of cost of living. I suppose a primary factor could be that inflation in that time in terms of getting a house 10 years ago in Hawaii, and getting one here in Maryland now might make it hard to compare. Gas was more expensive in Hawaii, but I also drove less distance. Groceries are actually comparable, in my opinion.
@@lasshrugged not when I was there, most groceries are about half the cost in Maryland besides the stuff they produced in Hawaii, I just left a few months ago. Sure land is cheap on parts of big island but housing prices are driving a lot of people out there. A lot of homeless people as well. The example I have off the too of my head is bread I see going for a little over three dollars here was over ten dollars there, same with peanut butter.
@@lasshrugged I am sure it depends on where you are in Maryland
Beautiful woman! Great video!
We now live in Howard County. Lovely lovely place. County services (schools, libraries, sanitation, law enforcement, fire department) are the best of any place we’ve lived (for reference we’re a Navy family that lived in Norfolk area (5y) then Northern VA (30+y) then retired to the Boston suburbs to help with grandkids). We now live in a suburbs-type place surrounded by real farms. Heaven. And the deer are serious. I’m a gardener and I hate them a little. And honestly MA was waaay worse for ticks than here. Bad traffic is mostly in areas around the DC metro area. But that’s fine w us because we can enjoy beautiful museums and arboretums and whip back to our little paradise the same day. Also remember we have access to metro (although our end of the red line is down for a little while to make it even better!) I highly recommend Maryland and especially Howard County!
Marlyand is good for older folks with generational wealth. It’s a terrible state for young people
@@olafharoldsonnii4713 Nope!
How weird county
The cameras are obnoxious. Especially in Montgomery County.
This is very fair. I live in Maryland, in Montgomery County. Have lived here all my life (58 years). If your politics are progressive, then this is the place for you. If not… then like me, you just complain to your conservative friends that you manage to find! Also, remember that the schools are going to reflect the politics of the county, heck, even Frederick county just north of us has now transitioned to being blue with the schools reflecting this in every way that you can imagine.
Regarding other things she said, I’d probably have mentioned something like the summer heat before the copperhead snakes. I’ve never seen one of those. I wonder where she has been hiking that she sees so many. But she really covered things well overall for a short video. Maryland offers a lot variety with plenty of things to do and see.
I always mention the horrible hot humid summers. I see copperheads at the billygoat trail at great falls. Check out some of my other videos 😃
@@CarynGardiner Interesting. I love Great Falls too - it's one of the underrated features of this area that I like to take visitors to. Have only seen water snakes there myself... but I'll keep my eyes open for copperheads next time I'm there!
I lived in Baltimore City for 65 years, don’t get me wrong, I loved Maryland but the politicians ruined it.
Love the state. Despise the politics. The only way a Republican Governor could win in MD is to be a liberal, and Larry Hogan fit the bill.
Actually, Baltimore IS a county and it is NOT the same as Baltimore CITY. Baltimore COUNTY or B.C. completely surrounds the city of Baltimore and is a completely different jurisdiction.
Baltimore city is the county seat of Baltimore County. Just like Upper Marlboro is the county seat of my Prince George's County where I've lived in most of my 64 years.
@@farsiga2899 Uh, no. Baltimore City is the largest independent city in the United States, which means it is the largest American city that is NOT part of a county. New York County (Manhattan) is a part of NYC. The City of Los Angeles is part of Los Angeles County. The City of Baltimore does not belong to any county., including its neighbor which shares the same name.. The seat of Baltimore County is in Towson, not the City of Baltimore.
@@eddiejc1 Baltimore City is independent of any county, which is like any city in Virginia.
She forgot to mention the alligator problem In Maryland. Gators are everywhere. So be careful! Enter the state at your own risk.
May I ask where these gators are? Nutria, yes, but Maryland is not their natural habitat. Any gators spotted or captured are the exception, not the rule. Except in the Salisbury Zoo, outside of the winter months where the exhibit animals are put in warmer winter quarters and not on display.
I've seen one more copperhead than I have gators, so you must live in Southern Maryland.
where bruh
Road trip in the 70s, stopped for gas (no self-service) pump jockey said, “MD, what’s that?”, “Maryland”, “What’s that?”, “A state.”, “Really?” (No kidding!)
Maryland is controlled by 4 jurisdictions, Baltimore City, P. G. County, Baltimore County, and Montgomery County, ALL deep blue. The rest of the state's 23 jurisdictions vary from solid red to purple. The majority of the citizens in these 23 jurisdictions are not represented at all. Look at the electoral map. I believe it is the most jerrymandered in the country. Bottom line, as much as I love the geographic diversity, history, and weather, I cannot wait to get out as soon as I retire. We are taxed to death. They just doubled vehicle registration fees, for example. The government WASTES $BILLIONS$ every day on woke policies and programs. The politicians are beholden to the teacher's unions and Planned Parenthood. It's basically an amoral cesspool. Cannot wait to get out.
Land doesn't vote people do sorry
@junglist8505 You're not too bright, are you? The PEOPLE in those 4 jurisdictions control the politics with their VOTE. They are all reliably and reflexively BLUE. The remaining districts are jerrymandered to ensure that the conservatives in the remaining jurisdictions will never be represented. Do some research, educate yourself, and then weigh in.
I was born in Maryland and spent alot of time in California with the Military and I am finding since coming back to Maryland that Maryland is becoming like the East Coast California and it is sad.
Thank you for this. I lived in Frederick for five years and learned to hate the Frednecks. Hagerstown is a much better value and closer to PA. I got run into by a deer and came close to getting killed.
As a native of Maryland, I was curious.
My reward was a wasted five minutes.

Maryland is the best state to raise a black American family. Very little racism and plenty of opportunity. Plenty of black owned businesses. Moco, PG county AND SOUTHERN MARYLAND. !!
I love it here ❤️
Maryland: Free to enter, but you need to pay to leave.
They stole that idea from New Jersey.
MD has a lot of natural beauty, but it’s gotten way too populated and developed. Also, the economy is driven by government and defense contractors. There aren’t many jobs outside these two areas.
Charles county is over developing. They just put thru a deal to build 10,000 housing units. Me and hubby are looking for other places. We moved from Prince George's county.
I been to Maryland, i was surprised how much black folks live there.
