    This medley is inspirational, thank you! 11 and 20 resonate most 4me. I use Camelphat to give my bass some reggae texture. What effects or post production does Donstrumental use? Bass is a fender with flatwound?

    • @donstrumental8905
      @donstrumental8905  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Fender Jazz bass, Flatwounds and a cable. I roll off most of the highs in the DAW EQ but leave some mid for definition, slight boost around 60hz and get rid of everything below 20Hz. Live I have King Tubbys in a box which I’ll be demonstrating soon. Check out any Michael Prophet or Horace Andy Live with Dub Asante around 2011 on TH-cam and you’ll hear It in action.

    Such deep groove, all of them. And your tone is just amazing, so round and thick. Most of it is of course in the fingers but may I ask, what effects/compression, if any, are you using? Also, are these Pyramid flatwounds?

    • @donstrumental8905

      No effects, slight eq bump around 60hz

    • @51m0nn
      @51m0nn 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@donstrumental8905 And a real understanding of where to play on the instrument with your right hand - between the neck and neck pickup, and I would bet a fairly gently pull over the string with your fingers rather than more funk/rock style heavier and faster pull more through the string to get a bigger attack.
      There's a lot to getting a great reggae tone, I play a lot of funk, and maybe a little ska flavour, but I love how reggae lines flow and work within the groove. Never found a decent resource to help get that feel right until now. Just discovered your channel, really enjoying the content, thanks!

    • @donstrumental8905
