    Just found yr channel, it speaks to the geek in me about transit stuff. 😁Do y just cover trains and busses? Los Angeles is in the process of trying to build a gondola from Dodger stadium, down thru Chinatown to Union station and also completing a people mover for LAX. Are those things something you will do videos on? Just curious. Just subbed! 😉

      I hadn’t heard about the gondola

      @@Thom-TRA Oh, Ok. The gondola is still in the public hearing stage but Frank McCourt, the former owner of he Dodgers still owns the parking lot there and has been trying to get this built for a while. It's as close as it's ever been, ready to go if apporved so maybe something to keep on the radar. Thanks for replying.✌

    California Plaza used to be a really nice place with fountains and water features everywhere.
    There was even an amphitheater with a stage that, when not in use, became a cascading water feature.
    Unfortunately, California Plaza has since removed many of these fountains.

      I was there in October and it was still a cool place to hang out. They were setting up for a concert on the lower level on the Friday afternoon that I left. I bet the water features were pretty cool (didn't see any, but I was more focused on getting a cold drink at Starbucks lol). I was staying near the Market, so I'd eat there every day, then take Angel's Flight up the hill, get a drink, then catch the shuttle bus to the Convention Center for my event. Lovely.

    If you come back to LA, see if you can catch one of the LA Metro Art Tours. Every station has had funding to have art included. There is a lot of art, and history, at Union Station, so that tour is great. There are also some amazing art installations at some of the Hollywood stations. A volunteer organization gives free guided tours.

    Holy cow! That hoot sound from the subway train sounds like the Pacific Electric Railway trolleys from the past using the same air whistles!

    Yeah I remember that closure when the train broke off & killed a New York elderly tourist & injuring his wife That was a sad time for their family & this historic rail cuz we assumed it would never return. Glad to see it back. The original track was a block over but glad it's still going. You remind me of a young version of this guy named Huell Howser from Tennessee who moved to Los Angeles. He had a PBS show that highlighted small, less known treasures in California. The show was called California's Gold. Thanks for doing a video on Angel's Flight.

    Have you seen the Little Tokyo station of the L Line? Probably, as it was still going under construction and it's still in construction now. However, they're building a reginal connector that goes from that particular station to the Metro Center downtown. I'm gonna wait until both are finished to explore that. Also, have you had a chance to travel to every station on the Red Line? Probably not, but if and when you do, I should warn you about something. You mentioned New York subways and Chicago subways being very unclean, well, there's one station that friggin stinks last time I visited: MacArthur Park. As soon as I got off the train, I was hit with the stench of the vagrants from outside and it was thick too. The entryway to outside has the park across the street and there are lines of homeless encircling various parts of the park. I feel bad for the birds that made the lake their home because who in the hell knows what kind of crap people has been dumping into it.

    That’s awesome, I saw that when I was on a city tour of LA but I didn’t get off the bus to ride it. The are 2 incline railways in Pittsburgh Pa, at least 1 in Niagara Falls Ontario and at least 1 in Quebec City Quebec.

    LA is truly a car city, unfortunately, however good to see it is slowly improving some public transport options. You inadvertently placing a $20, thinking it was only $2, in the ticket machine, reminded me how careful one has to be with US $ - as unlike many other countries they all are colored similarly & are the same size. A visiting overseas friend gave LA taxi driver a $20 US note for a $9.10 fare, thinking it was a $10 note & said 'keep the change'. Only to realize he gave him a $10.40 tip which was more than the fare! LA Union station is very unique in design & layout, a major rail hub for the city. Had not heard of the LA funicular thanks for pointing it out Thom. Did you hear of the recent earthquake in northeastern Japan & that the Tokyo 'bullet train' was derailed - fortunately, no one was injured?

    • @Thom-TRA
      @Thom-TRA  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did hear about the earthquake. Thankfully all my friends are okay. Thanks for thinking about it!
      I had a good laugh about the money, it totally sounded like a slot machine. At least I got the change, I’d have to be in a pretty good mood to bear the thought of doubling my cab fare like your friend did…

    The common earthquakes in LA are a big detterent to expanding the subway. But it would be great to have more light rail lines out here

      @jarheadmstr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Thom-TRA to be fair to LA though, the system is undergoing massive expansion, with the purple line (D line) undergoing massive expansion, basically an entire new subway line, along with the regional connector through downtown, also underground but using light rail vehicles, and with the future Sepulveda line, which is hopefully heavy rail, and all the other light rail expansion, LA will have a much improved system, although still lacking in many ways

    • @jarheadmstr
      @jarheadmstr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Thom-TRA they will, the D line expansion is under construction and completion expected 2027, with earlier segments opening in 2024, and the downtown regional connector opening this year, along the with the crenshaw line light rail opening this year, and all other projects have already been funded, and are already in planning
