I'm personally tired of pirates just being British privateers sinking Spanish galleons in the Caribbean. there are THOUSANDS of years of pirate history in every corner of the world, and the Indian Ocean is such a good pick. -- please dnt get me wrong, if anything im more disappointed because they fucked up an easy layup in 100 ways -- but if its the 1500s the Indian is basically a Portuguese lake, you have the Spanish pushing in to take Portuguese territory, you have the British struggling to do anything in Indian, a small fish in the overall fight, you have the Dutch, who everyone sleeps on, moving TRILLIONS of dollars in modern money worth of silver and spice through the East Indies, you have literal corporate pirates fighting for charter companies like the Dutch East India company... and then you have all the pirates from the local area. frankly -- and look, im SICK of the "woke" discourse -- you have an easy win with actual representation from Arabian, East African, Indian, Indonesian, and SE Asian pirates, so the skin tones and accents are there for the taking. Im more pissed off due to the wasted potential of the very setting they chose, its a promising area. its just my 2 cents though --ps; a game where you take on the Barbary Corsairs as the American Navy and Marine Corps off Tripoli would be fucking amazing, someone do that game

Sid meiers Pirates was my first ever video game. And will always be my all-time favorite. I wish a dev would use it as a template for a modern game, doubt it will happen. 😩
There are a few more… Age of pirates 1 & 2 (or Sea dogs depending where you are from), Pirates of the Burning Sea, and The Legend of Pirates Online. That is just off the top of my head but there are possibly others if you go looking. And not to mention the last 2 are free.

This game should be a multiplayer coop focusing pirate crew game. The members of the crew should assigned their position ( sailor, captain , sniper, plunker, steam engine mechanic ( if there will be steam engine ships) , cannoneers the time they enter the ship.They lost the opportunity for the best pirate game big time.
It only took certain gameplay elements from Black Flag, so not the whole game, right. And even with that, Ubisoft STILL failed at a decent worthwhile experience.

Well...I think we have a contender for the most painfully average game of 2024. A whole new top 10 category for the Angry Joe Show. I'd rather play Micropose's old Pirates game than play this. At least with that game, you could board a ship and fight a duel with an enemy Captain and take his ship as a prize. Before long you would have a pirate armada and prowl the high seas. Take port cities and sack them for loot. Ambush the spanish treasure fleet, search for buried treasure...you know...Pirates. Instead of this dull and dreary asset flip of Black Flag that is only cos-playing as pirates.
I would say, for me at least, early game and mid game was somewhat decent while i was working on crafting and upgrading all of the ships but once you hit endgame, it became extremely boring. You are basically just doing a mobile game loop through menu's to collect resources and currency while waiting hours on end for an event on the map to pop up. And then you do the event and realize that it doesn't really give any meaningful rewards. Pretty poor endgame loop i would say. I don't expect many people to stick with this in a long run. The game will likely be killed of by Ubisoft within a year due to too low player base, like they already did with a couple of their live service titles, like that one battle royale game i don't remember the name of as an example.

Who thought making this into a game of its own was a good idea to begin with? Should have left it as a multiplayer addon as they originally intended. Probably would have had a larger player base too. Naval battles were fun in Assassin's Creed because they made them exciting. This game looks so boring in my opinion.
It's really not a terrible game. I wasn't hopeful for it, but it had a free 8 hour trial so I gave it a shot one night while I was bored and I played the 8 hour trial all the way through. Wound up buying the game and have well over 30 hours in it. I like sailing though, the water, the crew singing, even the shooting is fun to me, guess your opinion may vary. I wish this had been a more realistic sea of thieves but it really isn't as bad as everyone is saying it is. ...and I'm usually pretty hard on AAA games. I haven't run into any bugs yet and performance has been very good, especially considering it says it requires an SSD and aside from taking a few minutes to load into the ports I see no issues whatsoever with an an oldschool harddrive and a 2060.

Since there's a free trial it costs nothing but hard drive space and a little time to find out and 8 hours is more than enough to figure out if it's for you or not. oh and after installing it on a new SSD the loading times for the ports went from a few minutes to about 5 seconds. ...still no performance issues or bugs. ...and the shop isn't egregious either. Honestly nothing in there is even something I'd want and there isn't much, least not yet. ...no XP boosts or skips, just a few cosmetics. ...less than 10 I think.
The issue isn’t so much that the game is absolute trash, but that it’s so mediocre that you can find the same gameplay style in a mobile or indie game. Are those games boring cuz of the gameplay mechanics? No, not at all, but then again, those games aren’t masquerading as a AAAA game worth $60 or $70 (on console) as if it were acting like the next game of the year. And like I said before, the gameplay is fun and might have saved this game any shred of decency but it doesn’t because the gameplay loop is extremely repetitive. 3-4 hours in and you can tell what the game offers. You can tell the direction the game will head in and most realize that any future direction for the game, within updates, must be trapped within the genre they set for the game. Nearly nothing can change the gameplay loop, or make it unique and refreshing. Then there’s the story… now this is trash. Aside from “you failed us captain” section and that 1st mission where the pirate laughs at your face and doesn’t give you squat, there’s not much shocking or exciting revelations. Your character is a mute,which means that the side characters will need to be that much more exciting but they aren’t, they all fall flat. The facial expressions are trash, like gta 5 online play npc expression trash. Why doesn’t that game get hate for it? Cuz it doesn’t lock you into just playing the vehicle and allows you to expand beyond just vehicle combat. the interaction with your pirate, or the the chemistry just doesn’t work, I mean it’s all just bad. So what does the game fall back on?fun but repetitive Gameplay. Take all that into account and the fact the devs are so stuck up their own rear they ignored the criticisms over a 10 year period, and under that same period, provided half baked or low effort implementations, and one is more than sufficiently justified to be angry.
@@reddemon6668 The story is a little dry, but I've found the ship combat fun myself. True you can find mobile games that are similar, but those mobile games have time limited building mechanics with pay to skip nonsense and often take you for hundreds if not thousands of dollars a dollar at a time. This isn't game of the year by any means, but personally I don't think it's terrible either. Certainly not as much as been portrayed thus far. It works (sad that that's a positive but it is in games today), it's stable, it is engaging (to me at least). I've put 36 hours in so far and I'm level 7 out of 11 so I expect to get at least 50 out of it, before any content that may or may not come in the future. I consider nearly a dollar an hour to be a pretty good rate for a game and I haven't had to slog through it. I've had average of 8 hour play sessions at a time. Clearly it's not for everyone but at least myself I'm having fun with it and I'd encourage anyone who thinks it might be something they'd enjoy to at least try the free trial since it costs nothing.

It's really not a terrible game. I wasn't hopeful for it, but it had a free 8 hour trial so I gave it a shot one night while I was bored and I played the 8 hour trial all the way through. Wound up buying the game and have well over 30 hours in it. I like sailing though, the water, the crew singing, even the shooting is fun to me, guess your opinion may vary. I wish this had been a more realistic sea of thieves but it really isn't as bad as everyone is saying it is. ...and I'm usually pretty hard on AAA games. I haven't run into any bugs yet and performance has been very good, especially considering it says it requires an SSD and aside from taking a few minutes to load into the ports I see no issues whatsoever with an an oldschool harddrive and a 2060.

@@Berry_BestI did, and i do wish you could do boarding yourself, get off at more locations do the raids and stuff... that would have been amazing, but what's there is fun. It's been enough to hold my attention. But as I said I love sailing and the ocean, so.. maybe I get lost in the theme more than anything. ...sinking ships is fun too though. No hate on anyone that doesn't like it just putting out there that I did and others might too. Since there's a free trial it costs nothing but hard drive space and a little time to find out and 8 hours is more than enough to figure out if it's for you or not. oh and after installing it on a new SSD the loading times for the ports went from a few minutes to about 5 seconds. ...still no performance issues or bugs. ...and the shop isn't egregious either. Honestly nothing in there is even something I'd want and there isn't much, least not yet. ...no XP boosts or skips, just a few cosmetics. ...less than 10 I think.

The issue isn’t so much that the game is absolute trash, but that it’s so mediocre that you can find the same gameplay style in a mobile or indie game. Are those games boring cuz of the gameplay mechanics? No, not at all, but then again, those games aren’t masquerading as a AAAA game worth $60 or $70 (on console) as if it were acting like the next game of the year.
And like I said before, the gameplay is fun and might have saved this game any shred of decency but it doesn’t because the gameplay loop is extremely repetitive.
3-4 hours in and you can tell what the game offers. You can tell the direction the game will head in and most realize that any future direction for the game, within updates, must be trapped within the genre they set for the game. Nearly nothing can change the gameplay loop, or make it unique and refreshing.
Then there’s the story… now this is trash. Aside from “you failed us captain” section and that 1st mission where the pirate laughs at your face and doesn’t give you squat, there’s not much shocking or exciting revelations. Your character is a mute,which means that the side characters will need to be that much more exciting but they aren’t, they all fall flat. The facial expressions are trash, like gta 5 online play npc expression trash. Why doesn’t that game get hate for it? Cuz it doesn’t lock you into just playing the vehicle and allows you to expand beyond just vehicle combat. the interaction with your pirate, or the the chemistry just doesn’t work, I mean it’s all just bad.
So what does the game fall back on?fun but repetitive Gameplay.
Take all that into account and the fact the devs are so stuck up their own rear they ignored the criticisms over a 10 year period, and under that same period, provided half baked or low effort implementations, and one is more than sufficiently justified to be angry.
@@reddemon6668 The story is a little dry, but I've found the ship combat fun myself. True you can find mobile games that are similar, but those mobile games have time limited building mechanics with pay to skip nonsense and often take you for hundreds if not thousands of dollars a dollar at a time. This isn't game of the year by any means, but personally I don't think it's terrible either. Certainly not as much as been portrayed thus far. It works (sad that that's a positive but it is in games today), it's stable, it is engaging (to me at least). I've put 36 hours in so far and I'm level 7 out of 11 so I expect to get at least 50 out of it, before any content that may or may not come in the future. I consider nearly a dollar an hour to be a pretty good rate for a game and I haven't had to slog through it. I've had average of 8 hour play sessions at a time. Clearly it's not for everyone but at least myself I'm having fun with it and I'd encourage anyone who thinks it might be something they'd enjoy to at least try the free trial since it costs nothing.

It seems really fetch questing, it reminds me of the two games that do this the most assassin's Creed and far cry, and a splash of pirate theme to go with it.
They need to make a one-eyed Willy's the goonies edition DLC
