I knew right away that they were setting him up to be killed and it still made me cry. This anime does these emotional scenes better than any other Shonen I've seen, it's nuts

These are the same reactors who met Rengoku for the first time and didn't like him that much because he also wants to execute Nezuko because of her new nature. Mugen train did that character arc beautifully in an hour or so.

Rengoku was stronger than Akaza, without Akaza's regenerative ability as a demon, he would would have already been dead at the beginning of the fight.

You obviously haven't read the manga otherwise you'd know Akaza didn't even try during that fight. Rengoku stood literally no chance in hell against him and that's putting it nicely. Plus saying he was stronger than him because of his regeneration is pointless because all demons are stronger than humans because of it
