In a former house, there was old Cookie Monster blue shag carpet in the bathroom. I didn't care what the floor looked like underneath it; it came out ASAP!
The last owners of the house (my aunt and uncle) had small fake flowers in a pot in one bathroom and a heavy ceramic "Mrs. Egg and her Baby Egg" in another bathroom and both went bye-bye! (I gave the latter to charity since it was sort of cute and still in decent condition. And now with the HIGH prices of eggs, maybe it is a collector's item!) 🤪
Just.a few months before listing, I knew my pair of 90s golden oak cabinets had to go. Initially I thought of painting them a nice pale grey - but, frankly, knew I just didn't have enough time for all that. I decided to buy a large mirror so as to cover up the holes from the cabinets. Lol! But then decided to repaint the walls, and patch the holes. :-) That large mirror looked great because the bathroom was small but had a lot of light. I thought it made the bathroom look larger - and gave it a touch of a modern look. Then bought one cabinet for storage over the toilet. Looked clean and neat!
I am so pleased that your channel appeared in my TH-cam feed! You provide solid advice in a concise manner with a very affable personality and delivery. Subscribed!
Another GREAT and helpful video, Jen, and thanks for sharing your ideas. I cannot agree with you more about the deep cleaning idea which really DOES make a difference! I have clear plastic shower curtains that are clean and fairly new but if the realtor that I hire suggests replacing them with better linen curtains, then I will do that.
You are and excellent source for house sellers. I am not selling, but have recommended you to someone who is. I binge watch because: as in giving a speech, you must communicate with your audience, so when doing my own interior design, I really don't care what it looks like, (it is amazing what you can "get used to". By watching YOU, I get an idea of what to do to appeal to "most people". That is what I think is most important. Thanks again.
@savvyhomeseller loved your polite video and subscribed! Main mistakes in our bathroom are: no grout on our tiled tub/shower walls, (There never was--whoever tiled it didn't use spacers!) the grout around the floor tiles is crumbling away, only 2 out of 7 light sockets work in the out-dated Hollywood light fixture, *wallpaper* on walls and Ceiling...aw heck! 😳 Can't afford to move!
You are laughing. As a buyer, I am not. I have been house shopping for six months. If I see another all gray house I'll vomit. If I see another kitchen with a big letter K or word art or a 6-foot Welcome sign, I'll vomit again. If your house is outdated just leave it. The buyer will gut / remodel to suit their taste. I looked at a house yesterday, that isn't worth remodeling. What does that mean? Tear it down and start with a fresh build. Great landscaping. House past the point of no return. A house is a depreciating asset. Deferred maintenance is costly. Saw another house, several months ago, in Libby , MT. Montana is beautiful. Libby is not. There is no way I am paying $250k for a house that is either a gut job or a tear down. It's pretty in Montana, or wherever you live. But it's not that pretty.
I personally hate medicine cabinets, when we remodeled our bathroom absolutely DID NOT want one. Instead put a great looking mirror and store all medicine cabinet "stuff" in a drawer out of sight.
Well, darn, I guess my turquoise blue bathroom color isn’t what people want. Good thing I don’t plan on selling this house till I die.😜 I have a very small house and it only has one bathroom. But I would love to have a little powder room and a pedestal sink. I love pedestal sinks but when you only have one bathroom, you just can’t do it.
Do you have any unusual design 'mistakes' in your bathroom?

Carpet in the bathroom should be considered a federal crime.
🤣 I agree!
We removed the slab mirror and replaced it with two mirrors with white frames, one over each sink. Looked good.
Good idea - that's a great way to give the bathroom a little more personality!
Will you be doing a kitchen version of this? My folks have a small kitchen and my mother wants to downsize the appliances for a remodel.
Actually - I did one a few months ago 👍🏻 Here you go! th-cam.com/video/EZaqt7HDwBE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=G7D4jZU1AqMw8X9X
Do NOT get black fixtures! You'll have to clean those so often if you have hard water.
That's an excellent point! (Or if you tend to be very enthusiastic when you brush your teeth) 🤣

I agree - when I renovated my bathroom, the 1971 medicine cabinet was the first thing to go!
Recessed ones that are flush with the wall are quite different and extremely useful!
@@adarajennifer Very good point! Especially if they're disguised as a nice looking mirror!
I've never seen carpet in a bathroom, other than maybe a throw rug.
Consider yourself very lucky 🤣

If you're not planning to sell in the near future - don't worry about it and enjoy your turquoise bathroom 😊
