    Great video as always. It's amazing how big the machinery has gotten and how complicated it is compared to the 70's and 80's when I started working on the farm. If you had a 4 row planter and combine you thought you had something here in Orange county Virginia. 1066/1086 or 4430/4440 tractors were big horses then. Thanks for sharing.

    Of all videos that I have watched about farming practices, including farming in N.D., this particlar video has been most informative. I love it. North Dakota is weell knoiwn for planting and harvesting wheat and barley, and some soybeans crops as well. But considering the climate of North Dakota, I don't know for sure if subsoiling practices would be practical or useful to the farmers in that state or not. In the eastern part of the state, along the Red River Valley, there is also alot of sugar beat crops that are planted and harvested.

    In the 80's I was in the UK farming, I worked on a large farm 530acres, that was big back then. One field we sub-soiled, the following wheat yield was the best we ever had. we had a MF 520 combine and a MF699, big stuff back then. With the ridiculous price of fiertiliser, sub-soiling could be a tool to help farmers maintain yield???

  • @piperdoug428

    Nice to see a different colour on a big farm down there. man the cost per acre to do subsoiling must be a hit especially with fuel prices

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The fuel bill no doubt is not enjoyable but the fracturing of the compaction and airing out the soil, opening it up to collect water and reduce run off is a great benefit for the corn crop that follows.

  • @2xKTfc
    @2xKTfc 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm sure there's a straightforward reason for it- why do the operators intermittently raise the subsoilers out of the ground? Did those areas not get compacted, or is that for erosion control, or something else? The Quadtracs are a sight to see, and four of them in one place converting gallons to foot-pounds is great! Very good to see equipment earn money like that. Thank you for showing us. Cheers! :)

    • @kevinmeyer3884
      @kevinmeyer3884 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My guess is those are rocky spots. Or highly erodible areas.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They raise the 2500 on places that water washes across the field on a slight slope to reduce any erosion y leaving the earth undisturbed. The farm just no tills those spots. GPS allows them to map the field and know the exact spots to lift up over and leave unworked. .

      There is less compaction from the tracks and better field speed for improved traction.

  • @martingardener90
    @martingardener90 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Jason I would love to know how Quad Tracs compare with Twin Trac tractors - pulling ability, compaction and manouverability , not that that matters much in that field!

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The QUADTRAC is solid tractor and in my opinion the most refined four track tractor. The two track tractors are pretty good too. The QUADTRAC is less likely to spin out in the field rolling through mud and up hills with big implements. I have seen a two track tractor struggle in mud because it can’t turn out of it. I have watched a two track tractor with a 60ft air drill spun out on a hill that a QUADTRAC with the same drill climbed right up. A two track tractor tends to ride over ditches like a tank with the front end raising up and coming down with a thud. A two track on a 120 inch track spacing will road smoother and provide great speeds in the field. Both a good tractors but the QUADTRAC has a few edges In the field.

    • @martingardener90
      @martingardener90 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bigtractorpower Thank you Jason for taking the time to give that clear answer to my question. You will no doubt be in Case-IH's good books although I assume this would pretty much apply to all four track tractors - as far as looks, I like the Versatiles!

      There are definitely all types of way to prepare a seed bed from moldboard plowing to no till. Sun soiling works very well in this area in the double crop situation. This farm does a bunch of test plots every year looking at a variety of methods. No till farming was invited in Christian County KY where this was filmed. You see allot of no till especially on the double crop beans.
