- In this video I make a new bonnet section for a 1941 Drewry diesel train, remove and make new bush for an axle pivot on a Ford 9600 tractor and also cut off and replace the 3 point linkage plates on a front press.
Hope you enjoy the video.
Thanks for watching
I am part of the team who will be refitting the bonnet to the Drewry so really good to see it being rolled, looks as though it will be a good fit
Are you on U-tube can we see you fit it?
Yes, Please!!!! This is good stuff, Mate!!
@@everestyetiwill see if I can get some video of it being fitted
would be great to see a video of it fitted
A TEAM to fit a bonnet??????
Jees ye will need a lift plan and a couple of highly book educated engineers to complete this complex task best of luck
You know what I value the most in your videos, Oliver? The way you recover from mistakes. I'm a lot older than you and I'll never have a fraction of your skills, but you've taught me incredibly valuable lessons. I was working on a little project the other day, and I cocked up some measurements. I was tempted to chuck it all in the bin and start again, but I didn't. I channelled my inner Oliver Snowball and worked with my cockup and managed to get the job done. Cheers mate. I really appreciate what you do for us!
Wonderful as ever Oliver .
No pretence, no bullshit, playing to your strengths, building on what you already have done/already know. Cracking little chanel. Love what you do.
Three jobs today, shame I can only "like" once. Thanks for posting.
Just when i got bored scrolling through what to watch....Snowball Engineering video upload🎉

Perfect sunday morning: Coffe and a new video from Oliver!
When pressing curves I have found the C.A.D. system helps a lot ( Cardboard Aided Design) Great video as always, thank you for posting.
It shows the quality man you are. Your family dedicated to feeding the English people. Your attention to detail about your work, shows in every video you release. I wish the other English people in the UK should honor those who feed a nation, and nobody seems to notice. Without farmers, our world collapses. Bless your family.🍺🍺🍺🍺
Thank you Oliver, superb job on our bonnet. 1941 Drewry that served in Palestine during WW2.
Had to look up Drewry because I had no idea until I read your comment, would I be right to say they were shunters? Going back a long, long time ago (long before I was born) my grandad worked at Horwich Loco works in Bolton as an engineer/boiler maker building steam locos. Just a bit of useless information that! 😆
@@JonDingleI enjoyed it
Any pictures of it fitted?😀
There will be but I only picked it up on Wednesday, waiting for the paint to dry.
@@tsheritageengineeringI look forward to the pictures.😀🇬🇧
Fitted the bonnet, fits perfectly and the bolt holes lined up, excellent job Oliver, well chuffed!!!
Nice work, hey that cut out piece of the train bonnet would make a good target back stop!😆
Well done oliver thank you for sharing. Would like to spend a day with you helping out 👍
Here's a young man that was taught the right way to do things . I really enjoy watching this man work .. Thanks
I like that roller press 😁
Oliver, to make that roller more adjustable, get a variable frequency drive. Brand should be Danfos, model FC302, affordable used ones are available on ebay etc. Wiring is easy and Danfos has a built in AC and DC brake, so you can stop spot on. No need for an external brake resistor for your application. You can reuse the control box, all you need are two push buttons (start forward and start reverse), a potentiometer 10kOhm and i recommend an emergency stop switch. Parameters can be set on the display, i prefer doing it by laptop.
Great suggestion!
Thats great, thanks for letting me know!
Hello Oliver from the USA.....looks as if there isn't a project you won't tackle. I like that in a fabricator. Your metal skills are spot on as always!! Also, enjoyed another 3 projects in 1 video.
I like the jobs that test the brain. Repetitive jobs are not for me. Thanks!
You've really mastered the use of the plasma cutter now Oly! Very quick and clean! 👍👍
Hi Oliver 3 jobs in one video, you really are spoiling us, Onward and upward.😜
Oliver, to stop that rusting on items in your shop from condensation, you can brush/wash/dunk steel with milkstone wash/remover dairy cleaner...only the straight phosphoric acid base ones, not the ones with sulfuric acid in them. The 'steel pickling' prevents rust for some time...maybe a year of more. Works great on steel tooling too and it's pretty cheap. I use it all over my shop here in the states. Hope it helps, thanks for the video content. Great work !!
I'd say that's a excellent job, great video, keep'um coming.
That bonnet was one tough job. My hats off to you on accomplishing it
I just want to tell you how much I enjoy your longer videos and especially the variety you demonstrated in this one! Thank you for sharing you work with us.

Man I’m hooked on your videos.
Well done
Thank you Oliver another great Sunday’s video viewing . Well done young man👌👏👏👏🍺
Loved the "on board" plasma table footage! I enjoyed seeing the On Shape design process too. Made my Sunday as usual! Cheers Oliver!
Happiness is a video from Oliver
Excellent job on the rolling, that's an acquired skill in it's self.
Nice work with the plate roller I know it’s difficult to make matching parts you did a good job of it!
Seeing a picture of that shunter reminded me of my childhood, down here in Southampton they used to use them to got between the old and new docks. Then in the 1990's they ripped up all the tracks, then 2 years ago started to lay new track as more freight was being sent by train. Nice job on the bonnet, watching you workout the angles to press gave me a headache. 😂 👍
That train bonnet job….. more hassle than it’s worth… great job !
Excellent work Oliver! Slip rolling a part like that bonnet is deceptively difficult especially with no rolle brake... you made it look easy.
Once again, thank you and have a good video. Look forward to next week for another one.
Well done. Especially for having no helper on the rolls👌
full day thank you for your time.
I always love it when old things are remade, because i'd like to think that the people who made it the first time around, if they could see how we do things... their minds would be blown. :))
Always a pleasure to watch . Attention to detail and explanation of what your doing is spot on . Great work on the bonnet I'm sure the guys will be pleased with the result . Loving the idea that removal is quicker than faffing about and making collars . Nice variety this week thanks Oliver
It is really funny to me, but amazing that replacing plates with new holes is quicker for you than any other way.
A good thing , would be to make a small stencil of the snowball logo , after you have finished your repair , to spray thru the stencil leaving your logo on the item , for all to see how good the item or repair was .
Those holes cut on your CNC machine at the start are so clean...almost like you drilled them. Interesting project and well done, as usual.
Front press frame looks great, it should help with GPS steering. Hopefully get up to collect it this week. Thanks.
Why did you need the holes tightened up?
The slack in the holes meant that the press would weave left to right rather than pull straight and not lift up properly. I might alter the pins so that they don't turn in the holes which will reduce further wear.
Had to stay up late to watch this new and exciting episode from snowball engineering. Hopefully, there's not too much drama.
Thanks for another great Sunday video Olly
That is a nice big roller you have it’s always nice to see how much effort you use to do things as correctly as possible
I enjoyed the video. Good filming. Thanks for posting.
5:06 a trick i was learnt into by an old boiler used to work for us, is you take some wire, make it flat between two plates (you place it between two plates and roll the plates over it and it's perfectly straight) then put that wire butted against the edge of the part you want to bend and using tape, you mark spacings of 4 cm and paint them (both wire and the edge of the plate) with white paint. Then you take the wire, bend it to match the item you want bent to spec and then simply go back to the plate and roll it over on the table, at the edge marking where your starts and exist are, making sure your 4 cm markings match on the wire and the plate. Sounds complicated, goes really fast.
The wire can also be used as a gauge for go no-go between the OG item and the item you bend to make sure you're on track.
edit: 9:46 if you take a tailor's tape measure and wrap it around the 3 rollers at one end, then do the same at the other end, you'll know when the roller is parallel.
That was a Brilliant video
Hi My Dear Friend Very Very Good Job ❤❤❤❤❤
Rolling and even bending sheet metal is half science half witchcraft I think! I sure don't do the craft any justice. Looks like it came out pretty nice Oliver. 👍 You certainly are a candidate for a nice big electric hydraulic press.
Dang dude, not bad for a rookie on hood bending. 🚂
You do a nice job with the video editing, speeding up parts that take a long time and showing other parts at normal speed. Video editing is something above my pay grade. I can do simple stuff, but anything more complex, I get my youngest son to do for me.
I really liked your fixturing, Oliver. Good Job, Mate.
What a great guy and equally great videos. Love this channel! Thank you!
Glad you are keeping busy and keeping the pennies rolling in, great work mate
Serious twist drill!
Great content Olly, thanks and keep up the good work. Hopefully you'll remember us when your a multi shop owner making millions!!!!!!!!
Great job! I enjoy your problem solving. Greetings from the Texas Hill Country
That was a tough one Oliver! Good work as always!
Oly today a welder, fabricator and a body man. A jack of all trades. Great job and a super video?
Hey Oliver as I wrote in videos befor it is every time again great to watch your videos. You have a great attitude and the way you dealing with things is also gerat to me. Hope wenn your channel grows bigger and bigger you don't lose this like people from other channels did.
You got some kit for a one man band , love your little cnc plasma cutter !
3 x good jobs completed ! you are now getting known away from the farm equipment repairs. A bigger tonnage press will help make life easier with those awkward jobs. Thanks for taking us along on your work week. Brian from South Yorkshire.
Another sunday morning who start very well, thank you for sharing, always a pleasure watch your project, 👍👍👍👍
I learn a lot, you are a good teacher and your explanasion are awesome
Must say I like the multi job's format.
Snow, good to see another side of your fabrication. top work.
Robota Super !😀 Pozdrawiam Marian .
Hello Oliver love your videos. Great work mate.🍺🍺
Looks like you cleaned up quite a bit. Shop looks great.
Dude you need a grit blaster! Such a great finish and cleans rust off so much better!
Love your work, keep it up!
you been going threw the steel witch is a good thing means your busy ..great work
It would be interesting to see a follow up of the train panel being fitted.
Hey Ollie I’m sure the fat controller will be chuffed with drewrys new bonnet 🤣 good work sir! Lots of variation in this content 👍🏻🇬🇧
Can't beat a bit of variety Olly !
I was struggling with JCB bushes…read somewhere on the net to run a bead of mig round the inside of the bush…as it cools it contracts and loosens the bush….BS i thought….i was stuck so tried it….hey presto bush’s came out…just food for thought. Love the channel, always look forward to the vids…learning loads. Keep it up fella.
I did that with an outer bearing race and couldn’t believe how well it worked!
I do say in the video why I didn’t do that.
@@snowballengineeringyep ….you did….and that’s why i watch…should have been clearer…its the skills you share that makes it so worth while watching. Making vids takes time and effort….keep it up. Looking forward to the next one.
Good on you for rolling the bonnet, it come out great. Thank you for the good video as usual.
I can’t believe how good your rolled that bonnet
😎
Hell of a video Oliver thanks
Oliver you definitely need a good press you could do with an overhead crane to it would make your life easier.
As always, a pleasure to watch.
Great video, fella, as always. Thank you for taking the time to record and edit it as always
Lovely bit of rolling in part 1.
Thanks. I really enjoy your videos. You do a great job!
Well done, Ollie, top work!
nice work
Thank you for taking us along on the journey. Journey - Train - Get it? Ha ha.
You're pretty good with that CAD, something I could never work out. My son is an engineer and he does this sort of thing every day at work. Any time I need a quick drawing done, I get him to do it because he also has the program on his computer at home.
Small hammer, big hammer, press, torch. My day in one sentence.
Oliver, you are amazing.
When i have something to roll i search for a gas bottle to roll it round, or pop down to Ron Whitfields at Fridaythorpe! Good work! Really enjoyed watching you!
Phil
Great job on the hood( bonnet), measure twice and roll once! Props to fitting the front end piece back to original bushing.👍 Wouldn’t be a Snowball Engineering video with out a little red oxide!😁Be Safe!
another great video. aVFD would be a nice add for the rollers then you can adjust the speed and add jog bottons and get the bennefits from DC breaking so it stops faster
Three nice projects all good as new.
Another great video Oliver 👍
Another excellent job!
Three nice jobs! Excellent job on the bonnet! Let us know if it fits. Thanks for the video.
Nice work. Thank you for the video.
You are on a roll great work as always cheers.
Excellent video you do some good work.
Great job and video. You make it look easy.
Nice job(s) !!
Great content this week Oliver. My tip of the week is using chalk on the rolling machine. Keep up the great work and stay safe!
Lots of interesting work thanks well done.
Great work Olly.
You work hard mate.
Great British Engineering.
Sadly, people like you are very few and far beween in this once great country.
Sadly now,Bitain is just the vessel for the waste of other countries.
