- In this video, I’ll be sharing my thoughts and reactions to the 10 countries that qualified out of semifinal 1. They will now advance to the grand final!!
Congrats and love to Albania, Czech Republic, Israel, Estonia, Bulgaria, Austria, Finland, Ireland, and Cyprus!!!
Gut feeling is that Lithuania and Ireland finished high up the scoreboard (alongside the likes of Cyprus obviously). Both were beautifully staged and had memorable performances
Ronald O'Brien I have a feeling Ireland came 6th for some reason.
Higher is very possible Gavin, both Ire and Lith might have gone top 5. Cyprus would have been really high but I'm not convinced at all that Israel, Czech Rep, Estonia or Bulgaria were on or near the podium
Thank you for Albania!! As Albanian m so proud of Eugent, his song is amazing, he's an amazing vocalist and this is the best entry we have ever had in Eurovision. I was in the venue where Eugent was chosen to represent us and he blew me away with his performance there and I knew the power of his voice and song would convince Europe too.

I was so happy for him! The moment they announced "Ireland" I was actually stood up and went "WHAT?! REALLY OH MY GOD YES GORGEOUS NEIGHBOURS!", so congratulations Éire, from the UK ♥

Albania survived the most difficult semi-final in... well, ever, and from position 3. THREE! How good do you have to be to achieve that? I'm so happy. :D
ESC Fan It was a random order. The right order will be announced after the grand final. It could be that the seventh country was better than the first and so on.
Ella Winberg, ESC Fan is talking about the running order position "03", it is very rare in Eurovision when a country qualifies in that position.
ESC Fan This really made me optimistic about Albania’s chances. It survived a bloodbath & nonetheless in one of the most hated running order. It just means that it found a lot of support. Almost everyone wrote this off completely. I’m still not optimistic that it will go through to the Top 10 in the Finals but I bet it might snatch a mid-table finish. (I can now actually see this ranking higher than the weaker SF2 borderline qualifiers and UK because qualifying from SF1 means qualifying among the pool of best of the best)
How can you say that this semifinal was difficult? I liked 5 songs out of 19. It was NOT the strongest one. The strongest one is Semifinal 2 in my opinion.

I'm so happy Lithuania, Albania and Ireland all qualified. I voted for all three and jumped out my seat when they qualified! I'm just too happy right now. Great video as always Jake! 😊

Cyprus has grown to be my personal favorite to win the contest this year. The song and the performance has blown all of the “fast food music” comments out of the water, and Eleni as a person is both fierce and humble. Estonia is a close personal second for me. Can’t wait to see what semifinal 2 brings. I’m rooting especially hard for Serbia, Hungary, Slovenia, and Ukraine.
1. Filomena was the best host, so entertaining in English.
2. Albania was perfect from beginning to end (specially that ending!).
3. Overall, I think Eleni/Elina were technically perfect, with an impressive staging and showing superhuman abilities (as Sergey Lazarev and Dami Im), but it would be more beneficial for Eurovision if Netta's Toy won: originality, creativity, singularity, a larger than life personality and an amazing inner world to discover (like Jamala).
4. I'm pretty sure the rest of favorites Norway, Bulgaria and France will reach the middle and lower part of the top10.
Albania and Austria were so powerful that gave me goosebumps!

Yup - I picked up on Cesar's unfortunate choice of comment too. There will be likely be people who voted for him in the semi who will now think twice before doing so again in the final.
I too felt quite emotional when Eugent and Ryan were put through. For Albania especially this must have been a fantastic night - and for Ireland (who've won the contest more times than any other country - including winning three back-to-back in the early 90s) this was their first qualifier for five years

Jake referred to it in his video... When asked how he felt about qualifying he said that he knew he would get through. As Jake quite rightly said, humility is a much appreciated quality
david norman Well, he was right. I also commented on Jake's predicition video that there was no way Austria wouldn't qualify. It's like fooling yourself that Cyprus and Israel wouldn't qualify. It's pretty annoying when they have to act surprised about qualifying. Cesar's song is also the 2nd most charting song after this semi-final, so yes, it was pretty obvious that he would go through.
What's wrong with having confidence in himself? False humility "Oh, I am just lucky" is a sin, too.

Albania was damn great. I did not like him first. He has such a great voice.
That semi final was so tough because almost all of them were good enough to be finalists. I'm disappointed about Greece because I love the song but they needed to do more on production. They could've done more with the symbolism rather than just having her hand painted blue. Ireland surprised me because I didn't really rate it from the music video but live it definitely out ranked others. It also comes at an important time in Ireland as they are have a referendum on abortion shortly. Love from New Zealand.

Hi Jake. I got to watch the semi-final with my brothers partner and their daughter who was born 7th of May here in Norway! That little girl must have been eavesdropping on us talking about which acts we were most excited to see and decided she wasn't gonna miss the show as she was born over a week early! ❤ I am so happy for the qualifiers that were overlooked by the bookies, specially for Eugent and Albania! That song struck a chord with me at the first listen and I couldn't be more pleased that I will get to hear it again in the finals! Vuhuu!❤

I was so happy Albania qualified I didn’t care that some of my fav didn’t. (Looking at you Greece. Your fault entirely. Masterpiece of a song and such poor staging). I’m calling it now. Cyprus 2019. That. Was. A. SHOWSTOPPER!
I would love to go with you to next year's contest Jake and watch your reaction. I've been to 3 and there is no other atmosphere like it. With so many countries, so friendly, so excited - it's absolutely electric and it's eurovision party time in the host city all week :P As for the acts; Greece I was shocked didn't qualify and amazed Albania did, however I can't knock his voice - the song's just not my bag. Bulgaria I have lost a little respect for because the female high notes are from someone behind the stage so I feel the audience is being conned; but I do love the song. Lithuania was a beautiful performance - Estonia could be the winner you know, she has a world class voice and even without the dress, she's mesmerizing.
Do not lie about Bulgaria, please!

And before the semi my favorite was Bulgaria, but that changed to Israel and Cyprus. Netta was so good live, and Cyprus just took me by surprise. I did not see that coming at all, but she was fantastic. Girl power!

That wouldn't hurt if in the final Lithuanian performance right after the ending scene with her husband they will add few seconds of Jake reacting to them. The level of cuteness will jump to the sky :-)

When they announced that Albania qualified I was jumping all over the room and I couldn't control myself. I was so pesimistic because they announced him 8th so I thought we will be out again this year. But I'm soo sooo happy that we did it this time. Thank you Eugent ❤❤
I was so proud to be Irish last night. We've won it the most times of all countries and we still have It!
Hi Jake! Your reaction videos are great! I always watch and enjoy. Btw: Elina from Estonia is not robot. She is opera singer, she took many masterclasses before this show and her vocal teacher is with her in Lison. This is what you get when you work with your voice every single day. Huge job! But such a wonderful result.
Isetegija the BBC presenters were saying they are staying in the same hotel as the Estonian delegation and Elina has been practicing at all hours.
Chris Holt we saw it yesterday in ETV, how she practices in her hotelroom. She said there is sometimes aplodisments behind the door or window, but there has been complaints too. I find it a little odd, that singers doesn’t have rooms somewhere where practice, that they have to do it in their hotelrooms. But - it’s such an interesting week! Lets see what happens today and in grand final!
Actually the grand final is going to be a battle field... i think it is an exception in ESC history where all the finalists are all strong and competitive!!!! I am so exciteddd
About the hosts:
Filomena is really awesome;
Daniela was an obvious and good choice - because she is a world known portuguese actress (ncis - la)
Silvia and Catarina are really good portuguese hosts, that have been doing that for a long, long time. They struggled a little with English, but they stepped up in the second semifinal ;)
I think you misunderstood Cesar Sampson at the press conference. He only said that he and his crew weren't aware that they started pronouncing the qualifiers because they were still celebrating for doing it right with the performance. He was actually being real humble.

about estonia and opera thing...You should react to Italy 2015 Grande amore ...the sing opera kind off ..they were 1st in televoting but they drop in 3rd place because of the jury.. I think that the viewers appreciated opera more than the jury
Dear Jack, you are much more sensitive than me . I'm from Israel and we're in the final, I'm happy and for me it's a win . I'm also happy for everyone who came with us to the finals . But, with regard to your reactions - when you on TH-cam's platform as a commentator you influence on the opinions of many people and there is a great responsibility - there are songs that did not reach the finals even though they deserved it . This day's, the fans votes are irrelevant and unfair - fans do not really vote for the good song but rather to the song that is the least threatening to the song of their country , in other words the less popular song's. As for your interpretation of the Irish song, I am personally straight and I have no problem with love in all its forms (gay, lesbian, bisexual, tran's or straight) Love is love and when you love you feel the same things no matter what you prefer . Preform love between two men is just an ESC gimmick and nothing more. The same thing I can say about the song of Lithuania in the union with her husband on the bridge and the tears ...
This semi-final was so competitive!! the second one even more
As mentioned on the predictions video, I went 8/10 on my personal picks. So glad two of my favorite songs that were in the bubble made it through.
As for the qualifiers:
🇦🇱: if you’re going to go simple staging, have the vocals go back it up. He did! 🤘
🇨🇿: it was like a 3-minute music video. Hopefully he can do the flip now if his back allows it.
🇱🇹: I shared this song with my husband after watching SF1, and we both cried. The staging and song is so beautiful.
🇮🇱: I was actually let down by the staging. But I still knew it would qualify.
🇪🇪: Justice for Verona! Actually, it looked better at ESC than at Eesti Laul.
🇧🇬: heck yeah!!!
🇦🇹: I knew he was going to deliver when it all matters!
🇫🇮: seriously, her backup singers made my ears bleed!!! But I knew she would qualify (even though I didn’t had that in my personal top 10) thanks to her British fanbase.
🇮🇪: I was right. If there was one song that would be the shock qualifier, it was that one. It was well staged!
🇨🇾: I really hope it doesn’t win because I’m not a fan of the song. But congrats nevertheless.

One thing that struck me was that the broadcaster and delegations are struggling with the staging and I think that they are recording in 4K HDR and even in usual HD broadcasting (1080i herein the UK) it looked ‘odd’ and the editing made it worse at times. The demands of the format have not really been taken into account for ultra hi-def.

My post-rehearsal predictions were 8,5/10 right. I didn't think Finland would actually qualify and had four songs fighting for the last two spots taken by Ireland (which I was right about) and Finland. I personally would have replaced Czechia, Finland and Cyprus with Switzerland, Croatia and Greece, but not everything can be according to my taste and overall I'm satisfied with the results (Albania! I didn't doubt him for a moment. After the rehearsals I KNEW, he'd get through.)
And I have to say, I LOVE how fast they announced the finalists. I hate it when people spend half a minute staring awkwardly into a camera, thinking it's more exciting that way.

I totally agree with the presenters thing....it's a type of show that requires funny and easy hosts, not too much of it.

I Agree with you about the hosts. Filomena is a very funny woman, and she was, Daniela was wonderful to, she is an actress in USA (NCSI)and she is used to English. Catarina (the one in blue) :( she was completely out.

The problem is there was no "telepont" like news anchors the jokes were dreadful common rtp you had a full year to think of them bad job in that regard.

Something must have been wrong with the sound. Aisel was uncharacteristically off key, Belarus was off (though more expected lol), one singer of Bulgaria was so horribly off it hurt my ears, Elina was shaky on the lower parts.

Agree with Austria’s qualification not being too great full and I understand the backing vocalist for Finland I cringed, Macedonia backing vocalists were so bad and marijas final note was terrible so happy for Ireland a bit sad for Switzerland ☹️

Hello. Netta's song is very pop. The same as cyprus. For Salvador is not good. What sales is that kind of songs, that is what we leasting on the radios and discoclubs but good music is more rare for us to leasting on the rádio unfortunatly . If you never heard Salvador singing not amar pelos dois, I advise you to hear him. You can feel his music. When he enter on the eurovision, we never expected to win because eurovision is more pop and show. He never ment to offend Netta's song but he is very genuine. He says what he thinks not what is political correct to Stay. Eurovision this year has very great songs. I don't like Cyprus music but She is a showgirl . She was very good. Israel I don't belieber it will win.😙😙
