This is one of the sickest Amon Amarth song I’ve ever heard. It’s so theatrical and melodic with a great way to end the albums story. Ending still gives me chills. Such an underrated masterpiece.
A thick fog lies ahead The ocean's deadly calm Their ship glides on the silent waves Into the unknown He cannot turn around For him it's much too late He puts his back into the oar And rows towards his fate The ship cuts through The milk white mist Through the blind they clearly hear The oar strokes of their mighty fleet Battle's drawing near His heart pounds loud and wild He's waited for this day Then suddenly a dragon's head Appears out of the haze Back on the Northern shores Just as he once swore He vowed to return And to make them burn Then a Northern wind picks up It sweeps the mist away A might viking fleet appears Patiently they wait "Death or victory!" Words by which they stand No turning back! In for the kill! Led by thy command! "All men grab your swords and shields The enemies lay ahead! We'll make this bay our battlefield and fill the waves with dead!" Darkness then descends Day turns into night A massive cloud of thousand arrows Fills the misty sky With violent force The two fleets crash The battle now begins Cries of war as weapons clash Uncertain who will win Thunder rolls 'cross the waves Lightning cracks the sky Clouds release hail big as grapes As arrows are let fly Hear the berserks roar! They call to mighty Thor! The fury in their raging eyes Will burn forever more Hear the weapons sing! Feel the arrows sting! They climb onto the Earl's great ship And begin to swing The fight is fierce as they attack With sword and axe, no guts, no glory! Arrows pierce, they won't back down They battle on with heart and fury Then it turns The flanking ships give way And soon they are embattled Standing firm! They fight 'til death! They refuse to die like cattle Fighting for his life No holds barred So close to revenge Close but yet so far Then he stands before him It's like the battle fades He sees his father's eyes As he's struck into the waves Back on Northern shores Just as he once sword He has met his fate In these cold dark waves He looks to clouds up high A dead and distant stare She comes out of the light See the chariot flare Standing on the shore He hears her silent call Freja leads him through the door Into the great hall
this part make me cry He looks to clouds up high A dead and distant stare She comes out of the light See the chariot flare Standing on the shore He hears her silent call Freja leads him through the door Into the great hall

This was one of the last albums my dad ever bought. I think the last one, in fact. It means alot to me. I hope all of our fathers and their fathers fathers are looking upon us.
You're not alone man. First time I heard it from the goosebump inducing opening melodic riff to the cinematic like ending, I bawled my eyes out... Johan wasn't shitting about the tragic story at all. And what a way this album's closer has defined that term for us fans. Epic...dramatic...furious...and ultimately saddening. Definitely among the best songs AA has ever made period!
I remember the day I listened to "Embrace of the Endless Ocean" on the TOTG album. I found myself immersed in so many feelings and believed that no song ever again would touch me the way it did. And here we are: Almost 9 years after, they release this album and this EPIC song, onle has 75k views. Hope more Amon Amarth fans listen to this.
I think Embrace of the Endless Ocean is their masterpeice, personally. Its so emotional. I like their faster paced stuff most of the time, but embrace of the endless ocean, as well as this one - they are just excellent art.
In general the album is awesome. The specific song is a masterpiece as well. Although it lacks the brutal attitude of their past albums it consumes you with its story telling saga rhyme of every song.
Then a Northern wind picks up It sweeps the mist away A mighty viking fleet appears Patiently they wait Death or victory, words by which they stand No turning back In for the kill Led by thy command

Odin was straight up like: "Fuck this petty revenge shit bra, we could really use a warrior like you in Valhalla. Save it for Ragnarok. Here, I'll send Freyja herself, you earned it kid."
Anyone can please help me figure what really happened at the end? was his father actually the "enemy" he was so anxious to fight, and he only perceived that in the very moment he was struck overboard? or did the last look his father gave him as he was "shunned" flashed before him as the Earl struck him and he lost balance, falling into the sea?
Short answer? They don't get that specific. It's left to your imagination.. What we know is that Odin wanted him so bad that he sent Freyja, the queen of the valkyries to bring him to Valhalla.
I think its very gently implied that the earl was actually his father, which would explain why he was there in the first place, I like to think it that way, because it makes the whole album more dramatic

This whole album is the perfect definition of a tragedy. A viking tragedy, I love it
Yes,It's about the ragnarok.

i cry everytime i hear this song. They have captured the definition of drama.

Fucked me to the bone
This song broke my heart more then my ex did!
I am just in love with Amon Amarth! Amazing music!
This was the perfect ending to one of the best metal albums in awhile.
(Just my opinion...)
I like appearance of dragon head, and how it was predicted in "on a sea of blood". Masterpiece.
Ending just gives me chills man...
10/10 one of the greatest songs ever. How can this exist on the same website with the likes of "It's Everyday Bro"?
This song has so many amazing riffs in it
3:42 makes wanna mosh and headbang every single time I listen to it!!!!

Darrell Ray gotta laugh at this comment! But it’s true! Hail Ulfric Stormcloak 😂😂
Empire stands strong. Damn with Ulfrick Stormcloack and his traitor army.
Wow, what a powerful song.
this is based on the batle of Hjørungavåg if anyone is wondering this sorta hapend
Hi checked quickly an article. Except the Jomsviking participation, how to you conclude that it's this specific battle ?
@@Gaviall it's the only major naval battle that the Jomsvikings took part in, and was allegedly fought under a fierce hail storm
Anyone else crying?

Nope.
kibaszott jó! ;)
Beautiful.
Best song of album 🤘
under the northern star part 2
Finally its on youtube :0
Amen to that. Thought it was never going to happen...
3:22 :O
Still the saddest metal song going int 2019
fucking epic
I think this is not their best album by far, but this song has the best riff in the album.
Sensacional
No wonder I blacked out to this song. I'm not worthy.
Odin was straight up like: "Fuck this petty revenge shit bra, we could really use a warrior like you in Valhalla. Save it for Ragnarok. Here, I'll send Freyja herself, you earned it kid."
Freyja gets the first (lucky) half of slain so he'd be going to Sessrumnir in Folkvang. Odin gets leftovers :p
This is a marterpiece.
Does anyone know why Amon Amarth has never done this song live?
I don't know, but I'm guessing it's because it's pretty hard to play.
They would need a 3rd guitarist
They HAVE played it at Hellfest 2016.
I lisen to this in my car now my car is a loongship

It's likely based on Battle of Hjörungavágr, so his father probably fought on Jarl Haakon and Norway's side.

One word. Drums.
viking metal the best band
Remus Varlan ...
As johan hegg would say, they are not viking metal... But simply melodeath metal. But they are great anyway :)
Viking Metal is Nordic folk-influenced Black Metal. This is Melodic Death Metal.
How can I do the first two seconds on guitar please ? It's really cool
i think its just turning the volume from 0 to 100 and holding a notr
