Whitney, you are one seriously talented lady. This is amazing. If you were to get into custom made 'high-end' down gear with baffled constructed chambers etc, you could do quite well.
I might send you an email to show you want I'm on about. The down thing is quite specialist but there is people out there who would pay a lot for a specific garment.@@WhitneyLu
I wish they never cut the sewing programs when I was in high school. I never knew anyone who could sew and I wanted to take a sewing course so bad. This is a really valuable skill and you're an amazing seamstress!!! I hope one day I can learn to sew this well.
You did a great job with this diy tutorial. There are a few steps that I would change/rearrange that might help beginners. 1) I would use a basting spray to hold the layers together prior to sewing the outer fabric with the batting. 2) I would install the cuffs, collar, and lower band flat , install the zipper, install the lining then finish the bands. That way the zipper and lining will be easier to encased within the bands. But once again, amazing job & kudos!
This is the first video I seen from you and I really like your video. It's not only super detailed but also visual. A lot of people just say it and do things off camera. You able to show little tricks and etc when you show and I appreciate it.
I saw this tutorial on another channel but it didn’t have any commentary. I’m thankful I came across the original video with full instructions. Thank you Whitney.
2 years later and your video is still helping out people like myself I tried and I tried and I tried I looked at countless to videos and I came across this one it was so helpful and easy to explain thank you
Whitney, you did just fine been sewing for 40 yyears. But this is my first jacket. YOU get an A+from me. Thank you I love how you explained everything. At the neck...just go slower.
Kudos to you!! You make this look easy. You are a Sewing Fairy! I commend you that you used what you had and didn't implement more tools to make your job easier. You are new and fresh and it's nice to see that you understand what you are doing which in the end will make you a fabulous instructor/teacher. All I have seen/watched is your gold puffy jacket. I've been sewing for over 30 years and if you ever have any sewing or construction questions. Please feel free to contact me. I know you have a positive group around to help but I could answer/tips on menswear. You go Girl!! Happiness to your Future George
That was so major !!!! You have great skills. You did in probably a 3 hr span ...(or less) what it takes some design students a whole semester to complete...go figure.
Mr Funky probably because they’re students... it’s what they’re learning to do. You can’t expect a novice to just bang out a polished project in hours like experienced seamstresses.
I’m old and I love the fabric but if you’d have made pants it would have brought me back to Solid gold dancers.. Miss your jacket it is beautiful, and this was a great tutorial! Glad your showing people how to make their own and not paying crazy amounts for clothes
Well now..I was looking to make a custom blazer and fell down your rabbit hole and I'm glad I'm here. This work is beautiful. I wanted to make a jacket because my grandmother always made them and I miss her RIP. You are a true seamstress and I know I'll see you somewhere major one day. Great job Whitney YOU'RE AWESOME!!
Super Nice Time-Lapse Video! Made your talented work look effortless! And Folks, it looks like she built this whole jacket without a #walkingfootattachment ! Would sure like to save you some possible headaches in building a Red Leather Down Jacket for your Daughter and instead use high quality stretch red vinyl for her First Down. A good two-way stretch red vinyl could be almost forgiving as your beautiful gold fabric which appears to be 4-way stretch! A typical L.A. Winter doesn't get nearly as chilly as a Texas Winter but..... when you're trying to shave off the electricity bill with a small space heater, it's time to be sewing up some fluffy Down Jackets (watch me use mine as a pajama top)!
Great tutorial it's so nice to see tutorials from someone who has proper pattern cutting and sewing experience. The only different thing I'd to is to cut the batting finish at the centre front without seam allowance for at least one layer to make it easier to sew in the the zipper.
OMG! That was awesome... You did that. It's great to see someone actually making their own clothing. I own a clothing line so I am learning the basics.
You're so thorough with this that I actually think I'd have a chance if I tried it. I can't sew worth a lick, either :D. Excellent video! New sub. Can't wait to see what else you publish
Out of all the puffer coat DIY on TH-cam. I find the explanation on how you made the coat and presentation was the best. The coat looked professionally made, clean and not to bulky from the batting.
I’ve been making patterns and sewing for years you just made sewing a lining in jacket look so easy lol! You might have just convinced me to attempt a jacket lol I always avoid them because I don’t want to deal with the lining! Thanks! Amazing job!!!!
Omg I know I said Dope last time but..... this is so Fire like you really inspiring me to just give making my own clothes a try🔥🔥🔥 and i like how you show the whole process and you are really clear about everything.
This is INCREDIBLE!!! I just found your page and after seeing this video I gotta become a subscriber. I have never seen anyone do anything like this. You are incredibly talented!!!
This tutorial was perfection. I made a puff crop vest and used cotton stuffing vs batting and it turned out great but very time consuming. This will cut my time in half. And the way you did your lining was wayyy less complicating lol. Thank you so much.
You are an excellent teacher! Thank you sooooooo much for making this video !!!! Can you please show how to add a hood, mittens and a warm cute hat and scarf🤗❤️🥰
You are one beautiful, talented and fashion savvy inspiration! I wish I had your skin color to pull off this kinda jacket. I’m so pale and my fabric choices are limited:(. Thank you so much for this video! I’m gonna try making one for my son.
Great Job! I have been wanting to make a quilted jacket for quite some time. Mine will have a different silhouette, but the steps will be basically the same.
I've NEVER sown ANYTHING in my life but I want to make this jacket for my girls! I know you sped up the video during a lot of the connecting of the parts, probably because you've shown how to do it in other videos, at least that's what I'm hoping, so I can go and find one that shows exactly how to do it in real time. (this is the first ever video I've seen of yours). This was so cute! Thanks for the video, Whitney!
All of it! We want to see all of it! This is great! Thank you! P.S. For your next one can you show us how to do it so that the seams that make the puffer pattern on the body line up with the seams on the sleeves?
That so rad!! I'd love to see a long version, with really in depth steps (like how did you finish the seams? Close ups on how to sew the zipper etc). So so cool. ;)
Omg thank you so much! This is going to be some task for me, because im a mother of all girls! Three to be exact! I want to make us all the exact same puffer coats! I already made us fur boots and fur purses, and next im making us matching fur jackets and fur vests.. You are amazing and i love that you showed the steps!!!!
Omg 3 girl jackets!? They are going to be so cute matching! I still haven’t gotten around to making my daughter one but I feel motivated now since you’re making 3!
Oh we sewing sewing😩 I thought this was a cute lil diy
😂😂😂😂
Swear 😂😂😂

Brroooo😂😂
I’m so weak 😂😂😂
Whitney, you are one seriously talented lady. This is amazing. If you were to get into custom made 'high-end' down gear with baffled constructed chambers etc, you could do quite well.
Hmmm this doesn’t sound like a bad idea, you got me thinking 🤔🤔🤔

Beautiful job your a talented seamstress. Don’t leave any of the steps out for your future video, each step helps.
I won’t! 😄
Agreed
I wish they never cut the sewing programs when I was in high school. I never knew anyone who could sew and I wanted to take a sewing course so bad. This is a really valuable skill and you're an amazing seamstress!!! I hope one day I can learn to sew this well.
Yesss same
Girl you did that. Very nice.
Pockets I gotta have pockets lol
Maybe putting some inner secret pockets in the lining part would be cool
Can't wait to try this, never thought it was gonna be this easy! Well explained, thank you!
I’m so glad to hear this!

The complicated steps are the ones to really focus on. The neck and waist lining attachments are two examples. Great job!

I'd watch
Step 1- Sibscribe
