Vestal one night at steak and shake paid for the meal for 7 police officers of the Chattanooga Police Department. Only one person knew who she was,, after that I was a fan, although I dont like the southern gospel. I was one of the seven police officer.
I have a little story about her that my Dad told me. My Dad was a big fan of the Gaithers and of Vestal. When George Jones had his near fatal accident in the late 1990's someone asked him if there was anything they could do for him. At that point the doctors didn't expect George to survive. George told them he wanted to see Vestal. George had never even met Vestal before. They told him they would try thinking that possibly she wouldn't even come to the hospital. Vestal did come and she prayed with George. George of course survived and for the remainder of his life he credited his praying with Vestal for saving his life.
The prayers of the righteous avails much. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
@@MARLONdaman My friend, you really spoke the truth. I had the privilege of meeting Vestal & Howard back in the early 90's. They were both fine people and served the Lord in both the spoken word and by song. God surely blessed them all the days of their lives.
@@wessmith7408 awesome
Vestal did not save his life God did we praise the creation than we praise the creator 🙏🙏🙏
I was blessed to sing with Auntie Vestal back in the day in my late teens early 20's. I adore her while she lived and to this day after her passing. I miss her so much.
This lady had an amazing voice! She is now singing in Glory,.
If you can't say anything nice... please don't say anything please.@@ellahogan779
My great grandma was a fan of Vestal most of her life. One of her funeral wishes was that 2 songs that Vestal was known for be sang at her funeral and we did. God Walks the Dark Hills was her all time #1 favorite. And although Dottie Rambo wrote the song, my grandma wanted The Holy Hills of Heaven Call me. Vestal, The Goodman family, The Speers and many other southern gospel legends made me a die hard southern gospel fan and it is my favorite genre of music. And the Goodman family are my favorites!! Great video!!
I knew the woman who made her handkerchiefs. Her last name was Brown, we knew her as sister Brown. Sister Brown was a friend of my family and when my grandmother passed away. She made the same kind of handkerchiefs for many of us. Each one had different designs of lace sewn on them. They were beautiful. I still have mine today.
That's a wonderful story 😊❤
I was privileged to stay with Howard and Vestal in their home, and more times with Rusty. They were wonderful people and Christians, and my all-time favorite mixed Gospel group.
One of the greatest voices in Southern Gospel music. She most certainly was the Queen of Gospel Music. Her sainted voice is most certainly missed.
Never ever be another Vestal. I loved Her. Loved Jake Hess, Glen Payne, Stephen Hill, Jessy Dixon, Dottie Rambo and so many more.
Jesse Dixon was a great singer indeed
Good speed my sister. Vestal led me to the Lord backstage at the Long Beach Municipal Auditorium 58 years ago and I still serve Him. She was a true and wonderful Lady.
Her and Dottie Rambo were the best, wish you would cover more Gospel singers that sung on the Gaither videos
I’ve started on a few to hopefully visit before the end of the year. Thanks for the suggestions. That’s what helps drive the channel!
Awesome, thank you
Amen! Dottie and Vestal were the best!❤
I got to see Miss Vestal a year before she passed away. She didn't need a microphone...and she brought down the house. I saw Vestal in Toronto Ontario. I was blessed to see her. 🙏✝️🕊
RIP Vestal and Howard.
Loved the Happy Goodman Family since I was young as I too was Blessed to have been brought up in The CHURCH OF GOD BY MY LOVING CHRISTIAN MOM SINCE I WAS 2WEEKS OLD AND BEING IN REVIVAL SERVICES UNTIL AFTER MIDNIGHT OR GOING TO OLD TENT MEETINGS IT WAS WONDEFUL, YET I THINK ALL OF US YOUNG PEOPLE DID NOT LIKE ALL THAT REALLY HOT TEMPERSTURES, BUT AS WE GOT OLDER WE LOVED THOSE WONDERFUL SERVICES!OVED VESTAL BEAUTIFUL SONGS AS SHE WAS TRULY A WONDERFUL CHRISTIAN LADY WITH ONE SUPER STRONG AND POWERFUL VOICE! O@@lindaruckman677
I remember them back in the early 70s on the Sunday morning Gospel Jubilee TV show as a kid with The Florida Boys
My Family the Hinson’s was on Gospel Jubilee hour. Great Memories!
Thanks so much for doing this one! My sweet Granny who passed away on April 4th loved The Happy Goodmans. Her favorite song was “I Wouldn’t Take Nothing For My Journey Now.” I fully believe they’re up there singing it together now. ❤
they are with the biggest angel band with sound so incredible it would cause a person to explode
Written by Rusty it is inscribed on his tombstone in Burnwell ,Dora Alabama.
Another interesting video from this channel. I am going to look their music up and listen. Love wha was written on their gravestone. Thanks for taking us along. Have a great week and God bless!
Thanks for watching!
Truly one of the most iconic groups in gospel music - Her handkerchief wasn't a prop.. or a security blanket. She kept it in case she needed to wipe tears.
I love her songs she really blessed our hearts with her songs.Sleep on vestal and wait on that resurrection day when you shall see your creator.
I have only just found out about them, my mom got me onto them. I just Vestal's voice, i wished i had found them sooner, but i still play their songs quite often, i have even got her on now, they were fantastic, may she rest in eternal peace along with the rest of the group.
You cannot say Vestal and Howard Goodman without smiling ☺
Lots of people back then while praising God would wave a hanky. There is a flag flown high from the castle of my heart. That’s scriptural.
Thankyou. I loved to hear Vestal sing.
Sis Vestal forever loved,so too is Dottie Rambo and all the other Southern Gospel greats.
Sleep peacefully beautiful souls, until then.
I grew up on Southern Gospel music. I love them all.
She was a godly woman love her banana pudding my daddy played music all over he song gospel singer her husband was a blessing to all god bless

The Goodmans were unique and well loved for their gospel music..they were a blessing in their time
Thank you for showing me where vestal's grave is.
I adore her very much
Vestal was my 2nd cousin. I've been wanting to visit her and Howard for a long time now but just haven't been able to. Thanks for sharing!
Years ago I wrote a letter to Vestal Goodman. To my surprise she replied to me with her own personal stationery. What a beautiful letter she wrote. Thanks to my Dad for turning me onto the Happy Goodmans. I will never forget me and my dad sitting around playing our records.
She held the hanky to dab perspiration. Thank you for this video. I'm a big fan of Vestal and the Happy Goodmans. ❤
What a wonderful place and a wonderful lady that we all will miss but can cherish that beautiful voice of hers and the family’s
My late Grandmother's favorite Gospel Group everyday at noon our local radio station played gospel music she called in for the Happy Goodman song almost every day.
I grew up listening to the Happy Goodman's. They performed in our church in Evansville IN a few times and I went to MadisonvilIe KY to their church in the 70s to hear them. I loved listening to them all, but Rusty (Charles) was my favorite. I sang his songs all through my Bible College tours. If you haven't read Vestals book, get it and read it. It gives a complete history of the family telling both good and the struggles they encountered which were many. The book is titled simply "Vestal".
I do remember the happy Goodman family I always felt like she looked like my grandma🎉
I love Vestal . I still listen to her music till this day.rest well Queen
When I was a teenage back in the 60's I would get up early on Sunday mornings to watch The Happy Goodmans, Floriida Boys and the Dixie Echoes. Such awesome gospel music.
Same here! ♥️
Was this on the Gospel Singing Jubilee?
I listened to them every Saturday night on KPDQ in Portland Oregon on the radio for as many years as they were on.
@@blanton1624Yes it was!! I watched it every Sunday morning!!
@@blanton1624yes it was !
My son at two years was diagnosed with a brain rumor. My sister in law and brother were at a Gaither concert. She told Vestal about him Vestal anointed and prayed over the handkerchief she had used that night. He is 29 and still has it.
Thats an awesome story! God is good!
I bought my first Happy Goodman vinyl album titled, "This Happy House" sometime in the early 1970's. What a group and what a voice Vestal had. Thanks for covering this on your travels. It's greatly appreciated!
I have a few songs of The Goodmans saved to my watch later list love their music. May God Bless everyone who reads this 🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️
My Dad and Mom was great fans of the Goodman family, would watch and listen every chance they had.
Enjoyed, Goodman’s were my favorite, met them a few times, have all their signatures, and my picture with them. Can’t wait to hear them in heaven
If you could do a video on Betty Jean Robinson grave that would be great I'd definitely appreciate it.
Added to the list. She is close to Minnie pearl. Thanks for the suggestion!
Oh, I didn't know she had gone.I LOVED to hear her sing on TBN
I still play their songs at nights before falling asleep
Love to hear her sing ❤🙏🏼
I loved listening to Vestal sing.
Wonderful voice ❤
Nobody sings "Little Brown Church" like they did.
We never die ❤
I grew up with Southern Gospel music. Dad was in a few bands. All those Gaither reunions lol
Thank you for this, I have the Goodmans on my list of places to visit also. I have an email from Vestal she sent me after I read her book and I had sent her an email telling her how much I loved her book! The Goodmans are a part of my childhood, singing their songs in church. Loved this video!
Thanks for watching!
Rick Goodman COULD keep that marker clean……
VESTAL IS NOT IN A GRAVEYARD. NOW SINGING IN HEAVEN RIP VESTAL, LOOK FOWARD TO SEEING YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE
Happy Goodman Family loved the show. Jimmy Swaggart my pastor awesome singer and longest TV evangelist on TV. Lov ya Vestal
That's odd that big monument is so far away I don't understand why really. Good video buddy
That big area is their plot. So there is room for others in the family. That is not really a monument. It is a prayer bench.
Another Great one😊
Thanks for sharing! I loved that woman so much! She has taught me everything I know about music and beyond! 21 years has sure flown by!
You can spray Wet and Forget on a headstone/grave marker and in a few months that black mildew/mold will be gone. It looks like Vestal and Howard's has quite a bit of that.
She was among the best!!❤
When I get to heaven I’ve got a bone to pick with Vestal. She didn’t ever publish the song “Blow Ye the Trumpet” on her 1981 Word record. What a travesty.
You gotta go to Woodlawn in Detroit...PLENTY of notable graves/markers/crypts to see!
Check out the song
We’ll Soon Be Done
With Troubles Trials
And Sorrows
Live Version.
I saw Jake Hess in the background in one of the pictures! I'm really good friends with his son and daughter-in-law 😊
Vestal had a very awesome yet strong voice and she was loved by many including her Gaither friends. She will be missed
Love her and miss her
Did anyone else notice the spelling differences on her 1971 'HALLELUJAH' album and her headstone?
I grew up with the Happy Goodman Family on Sunday morning's Gospel Singing Jubilee, when her voice showcased the title song, and Howard's fleeting hands on the piano. (Thank you, Mizz Newkirk.) I decided even way back then I wanted Vestal Goodman to sing at my funeral. I still do.
OMG! I had to subscribe.
She changed it to Vestel when she was in high school because a teacher insisted on pronouncing it incorrectly. She just left it that way until she had to get a passport. Then she changed it back to Vestal. She told about this in her book. You can get one of her books on e-bay for just a few dollars. You would probably enjoy reading it. I did.
Thank you for another great video. How about one on Andersonville National Cemetery.
Andersonville is a must. So much to cover there. Thanks for the suggestion!
Thank you for sharing this video with us
Thank you for the videos and stay safe in your travels I enjoy each one you put out you do an awesome job
Thanks for watching!
My Uncles Kenny and Larry Hinson they are the famous Singers of The Hinsons southern gospel group you should do a video on the Hinsons

Thank you so much for doing videos on them.
I really enjoy watching your videos you do a great job. Check out Tammie Hinson Music. Bless you!
They both had powerful voices.
It most likely the entire family plot and marker.
Vestal brings tears when she sings. I KNOW SHES IN HEAVEN with JESUS. What
expression she had. So real & sincere. Whoever reads this, please pray for me. WALLY JONES Thank you.
Thanks for the video.
A fun video suggestion would be to showcase the area their home is located. I believe their son Rick & Diane live in the house now.
The monument is a place to sit and rest.
Powerful story of our Howard and Vestal Goodman. Better known as The Happy Goodman Family. Thet had a specual annointing upon their lives to sing the way they did. Even though they are no longer with us their music lives on. Vestal's voice was always so rich. When she sings those good old favourites like ROCK OF AGES, THE HOLY HILLS, GOD WALKS THE DARK HILLS, TIL THE STORM and many more two numerous to mention. This couple will never be forgiven. I've sung most of of these as solo pieces apt my church and other events. What a blessing! Their music has touched my life tremendrously. Thank you so much for sharing. God bless you.❤
They
I saw them with the Gaither’s in Chattanooga as walking out I said I could die now I had seen my hero and mentor. Several other young ladies my age were just as thrilled as we all walked the sidewalk singing “Wouldn’t Take Nothing For My Journey Now” RIP my beloved Sister I will meet you in heaven on day.
Have you ever been to Westview Cemetery in Atlanta?
I have filmed there once a couple years ago. Really cool historic one to visit
Excellent Video!
Thank u
@@BackRoads1 You're very welcome!
Wow 2002 and then 2003 those years have flew by since there deaths
Vestal is from Fife ,Alabama in dekalb County. Howard is from burnwell, Dora Walker County Alabama many members of his family are buried there ,Including rusty and Bobby. Sam is buried in Clarksville Tennessee
My Mom and Dad talked about Vestal and Howard quite a few times. I really do not remember any of her songs but my Uncle Walter always sung gospel music and would talk of Vestal some. God Bless and be safe in the heat this week. Hugs.
Hey Buddy, Your doing a great job. I sure do enjoy your post especially with Southern Gospel & Country Stars. Keep up the good work. Keith from down here in Georgia
Thanks for watching!
You Betcha ! ! !
It looks like this cemetary does not have above ground monuments on graves. It makes mowing easier. 😊
Why would anyone care outside of her family, where she’s buried?
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
I only discovered your channel today. This was so wonderful and you did an excellent job. May God richly reward and bless you all the days of your life. Thank you for this.
Thank you for watching.
This is a Memorial Garden/Memorial Park and headstones aren't generally allowed. That's why the large headstone is off to the side.
I always enjoy your trips to various special well known people's graves. Very informative. Enjoy going with you by video there! Keep us informed.
Thanks for watching
I loved vestal now she’s with Jesus singing
Oh yes. She was the Queen. Im Going To Take a Trip on the old gospel trip.
She actually reminds me a LOT of my grandma (in that wholesome good way)
That's where they rest but that old grave won't hold them when the Lord shouts!
My grandpa when she wore them sold her and brought to her house her beehive wigs they used to live in Evansville Indiana....I was a huge huge fan of hers I was devastated when I heard she died!!!! Is it Nashville TN or Nashville Indiana where she's barried??
Nashville Tennessee. Thanks for watching!
The I don't regret a mile, is the lyrics to a song Howard wrote.
I liked her and her husband. And dottie Rambo, I saw them on TBN( and please, no hate for TBN, lol .I liked their guests)
Love ed it cause I love The Goodwin Family they still bless me
They was such a great group and vestal had a beautiful voice. Thank for sharing i wanted to visted them on my visit last summet just ran out of time
Loved this lady and her singing!❤
I was at a Gaither concert in 2003. What a thrill when she walked
