    Stephen Colbert took over as host of The Late Show on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015. Colbert is best known for his work as a television host, writer, actor, and producer, and best known for his charity work teaching English as a second language on Tunisian date farms. Prior to joining the CBS family -- and being officially adopted by network president Les Moonves -- Colbert helmed “The Colbert Report,” which aired nearly 1,500 episodes and required Stephen to wear nearly 1,500 different neckties. The program received two Peabody Awards, two Grammy Awards, and several unwelcome shoulder massages. It won two Emmys for Outstanding Variety Series in 2013 and 2014, both of which appear to have been lost in the move. Colbert is pronounced koʊlˈbɛər, according to Wikipedia. His understudy is William Cavanaugh, who will be hosting The Late Show approximately one third of the time. Good luck, Bill!"

      +Alex B that percentage is false. you have not been to school. Please maybe search some of your theories on Google Scholar. I am not racist and never have been. Many times people who are racist are no longer so after they inform themselves. I appreciate that you believe what you are saying to be true but I encourage you to just maybe look up some of your ideas in an academic way so as to get real statistics. I don't think you're stupid and I take that back. Take care

      +Alex B Have you experienced violence from black people first hand? I am sorry that you are racist. If you feel that way, I only ask that you try and treat everyone as an individual and please try to ignore that feeling until you are given reason to feel badly towards them, so that you do not harm or hate anyone that has no bad intentions towards you.

    His answer about racism was analytical rather than emotional. Some might think it was cold, Colbert seemed to want something different, but I think he summarized the situation pretty well.

    • @osaji922
      @osaji922 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Ah, I see what you're getting at. Colbert being the ultra liberal probably wanted him to pick a side, encouraging blacks. Funny because Will handled that one like a politician and didn't pick with side.

    • @lexi219
      @lexi219 8 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      +Osaji Obi I'm not sure what you mean about picking a side - there aren't any sides when talking about racism, but rather people who ignore incidents to better fit their narrative and people who don't think that this is okay. He didn't say anything that activists haven't been saying for years, but of course, the rhetoric that gets picked up by mainstream media is usually the super emotional or inflammatory statements. But when he said "racism is not getting worse, it's being filmed", he reminded me of a number of speeches/statements that activists have said recently. Black people don't need to be encouraged by celebrities in their outrage - what they see every day and experience on personal levels encourages them enough.
      And Colbert seemed perfectly happy with his response, even engaging well in Smith's response and spurring him along.

    • @jeezythecat
      @jeezythecat 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's true in families and relationships (speaking from my own experience) and I really do think it applies to the bigger picture. Sometimes problems get canned up for too long, a lot of repressed pain builds up, and a period of turmoil and shock ensues when the issues finally rise to the surface. In my experiences, the result has been a more honest, functional, and mature environment. It's sort of like when somebody is very badly constipated for days and finally takes that gigantic shit which threatens to tear his asshole apart as it exits, yet, when all is said and done, his bowels sing a glorious ode to freedom.

    • @WalkerRileyMC
      @WalkerRileyMC 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Uh...Obi? Politicians pick sides. Hence why there's Democrats, Republicans, Independents, etc. Hence why you use the term "ultra liberal" when describing Colbert...because sides have been picked.

  • @littleripper312

    That was really well said. Plus we have to remember it's not white vs black vs asian it's hateful people vs non hateful people and both sides have a mix of all races. I'm dating a black guy(I'm white) and I've been getting angry lately because of how often we get harassed. It's hard not to get emotional over what people say and do to us sometimes. I almost started to hate white males but then I had to remind myself that 99.99% of white males around us don't bother us and it's just a couple of idiots. It's really hard after incidents happen though to be positive.

      Honestly, it looks great.
      I haven't really been excited for any of the DC movies until this one.
      Man of Steel was so boring I couldn't finish it, and Batman v Superman looked so dumb I didn't even bother.
      This, though, has got my hyped.
      Maybe the reviews are right and its garbage, but I'm willing to give it a shot, because honestly, critics are just giving their opinion, and as with anyone's opinion, some people will disagree.

    • @DuranmanX
      @DuranmanX 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Florence MacKenna I know that, but with metacritic, it's not just one opinion, but many, and because it's on the lower half, more people disliked it (or found it average) than liked it (or found it great)
      so not all critics disliked it, but a majority did, so it stands to reason that a majority of people might dislike it (well critics often think differently from mainstream viewers, so maybe not)
      I'll watch it, since I love superhero movies, and I try to support the market for them

    Will Smith makes a good point. The tension regarding race today in America is real, there are issues to be resolved AND there are real life prejudices people feel and have. But if you never talk about it, never show it in real life (not in movies, not in books, factual news stories case in point exhibit A examples only) then we can never fix it. It's good people are talking about it, and having discussions, and feeling strong emotions because it's a HUGE issue. Here is what I hope: I know a lot of people in this country live in communities where most people are like you. You could live in a mostly Arab community or mostly black community or mostly Korean community or mostly small town white community doesn't matter. I just want people to understand....The reason why this conversation about race relations doesn't stop is because WHILE IT MAY not directly affect you and yours, it does affect tens of millions of your fellow Americans. You don't have to go to protests or try to fight someone else's cause, but please don't dismiss it and say you're sick and tired of people pulling the "race" card. Follow the Golden Rule. Treat others and THINK about others in the same way you would like to be treated. Maybe your neck of the woods doesn't have the issues some other Americans in a different town states away has. But if they are legitimate problems and if other American's rights are being infringed upon you should care. Because if that was you and your loved ones in the same boat (and one day it very well could be) I promise you, you would want other Americans to care about your struggle. You don't have to be lovey dovey hippy dippy love everyone for no reason, but if you care about America, which all Americans should, then you should care about groups of Americans who are struggling. Don't have to send money, Don't have to do a damn thing except CARE. The alternative is saying "fuck those people they aren't my people and hell for all I know they deserve it" That's no way to build a great country and if you truly believe in the American ideal of "Freedom for all" that's way off the mark. Just. Care. Please.
    You're free and clear to tell me to go to hell, freedom of speech makes this nation great. But don't forget the words stamped on our quarters, the motto of the USA: "E Pluribus Unum" Latin for "Out of many, One" Out of so many different people who never ALL agree from a whole range of backgrounds and stories out of so MANY we have to make ONE nation. We get there together, or we don't get there at all.

    I appreciate Will Smith's optimism on race relations but he seems oblivious to one thing. That is, there is a substantial part of America that is still comfortable in its bubble. And in that bubble, racism is only a figment in the black men's imagination. They look at their situation and they think that it more or less mirrors everyone else's. Until we can get some people to understand that in America people live in different realities, we will never have the sort of honest conversation that could help move race relations forward.

      I thought the same thing as Will was commenting. However, I also understand the position he is under in terms of being a successful actor. He wants racists to show up and watch his movie, too. LoL. But, the best part about what he said when asked the question, was the cringing facial expression he made right before answering. That facial expression, to me, said, "Man, you know I can't answer too honestly. I don't want to mess up how much money this film makes." LoL. But that expression also said, that he had a heck of a lot more to say. And that made me appreciate it that much more.

      We don't have to stop defining ourselves as our color, we just have to understand that it doesn't mean anything. It's not about making the color go away, it's about knowing there's a person just like you underneath the skin.
