Thanks for the album info. As I told you before I knew about the original and even owned a copy for a while. But it was pretty well thrashed so I never really got to compare the two versions. One thing that surprised me was that Neil's name wasn't on the original issue. I don't think Neil was well enough known at that time that lots of people would have recognized him by the picture only..
Absolutely and thanks so much for watching. I think you're exactly right about the name put on later because he didn't have quite the status that obtains now. Great observation! Take good care.
Hello Portland! Napa Valley, CA here. I have recently discovered your channel and have loved hearing/seeing your takes on albums. I have been a Neil Young fan since the Buffalo Springfield days. I purchased his solo album when it came out back in late 1968 when I was 23. It is the original mix with the full illustrated cover and no name. I still have it and it is in almost near mint condition. I love this album, especially side one but it is all great. I copied it onto CD years ago so I could listen to it a lot and not worry about wearing it out. I have a ton of Neil's albums on vinyl and CD. I'd probably be a completist if I could afford it. Even Neil's worst albums have something worth listening to. Back in 1969 I was living in the San Fernando Valley and a favorite hang out place was up in Topanga Canyon. Had a few meals at the Canyon Café where Neil met his first wife Susan but I never ran into him there. Keep up the great videos!
Fantastic stories for sure! That place always seemed beautiful up there. I think there's a video on here of someone going up to that place and it still stands...check it out if you can! Thanks for watching good friend and take good care!
Very underrated album. In my opinion, definitely in the top 5. It's mind-blowing that fans and critics like his On The Beach album, which is dull as hell. Great video!
Thanks man! I've listened to On The Beach and it honestly didn't do anything for me. I know it's celebrated amongst many fans but it didn't grab me. His debut is very special to me.
You’re very articulate!!! I wish I had your skills! This was fascinating and informative. Thank you so much for this. I was glued to your video from the beginning right to the end. Very well done!
Thank you so much for your kind words... I like providing not only the iconic status of accomplishments but I really do like providing what goes into things like this. The background, the beginnings, etc. Again, thank you so much glad you enjoyed it. Take good care!
Great post. I’ve enjoyed revisiting the album after watching this. I also grew up with the remix version and I think it’s fine. To me, Here we are in the years sounds better remixed. The drums (hi hat and rim shots) were removed in the “so the subtle face” section which works better for me than the original. Also the ending is full whereas the original faded too early. Oddly enough, the Neil Young website has these versions back to front now. Don’t know how that happened. He was still in Buffalo Springfield mode when he made this, but very quickly (within two months of its release) developed his signature sound which continues to this day. So this album is unique in his catalogue and is what he might have contributed to a fourth BS album had he stayed with them. It will always be a special album to me. Btw, the reason I think he didn’t want to do the Carson show was because he was a true musician and took his art seriously, but on some of the previous tv shows the presenters couldn’t help themselves from making some sort of comedy during the bands appearances. Happened in For What It’s Worth on Smothers Brothers and on a show called Go, then later in Rock’n’Roll Woman (bubblegum foolery) and decided he wasn’t gonna go there anymore. He was right !!! Keep up the good work.
@@stevie625 Fantastic points and truly great insights! You're spot on. It's refreshing to read this knowing I'm not alone on these thoughts. Thanks friend! Sure do appreciate it!
Innaresting and you clarify a few things about that 1st mix. Let me just add that the same process and tools were used on a record released approximately at the same time, Greatest Hits with The Association and that one sounds just immaculate. Keep up the good work.
Yes a truly great album, The Loner, The old laughing lady, etc however I stopped listening to him after his Harvest album as well, however I was also a big fan of Crosby Stills and Young but definitely not Nash, we have similar tastes so I am going to push you in the direction of 'A Trick of the Tale' by Genesis but you have to listen to it five times before it is with you for life and some of the lyrics are very deep! for example 'ripples ' a young boy looks into his reflection in the clear river and after the ripple he is an older man but 'some are wise and some otherwise!'
That's pretty ironic you say that because I used to own A Trick Of The Tail years ago! I haven't heard it in so long... I'm going to have to track down a really good copy of that one again! Thanks for bringing that one back into the limelight for me and thanks again for watching!
Excellent again, your introspection and delivery set you apart from other reviewers… keep it up.
Thanks a lot Bert, sure do appreciate it!

Wow, I didn't know they used that process for that album. Interesting... thanks so much for watching and take good care!
This was great brother. Love what you are doing.
Thank you! Sure has been a lot of fun doing this.
