4:19 "Is it frozen or fresh?" It is 100% frozen. I worked at Wendy's. There's not a piece of chicken that goes through those places that isn't frozen, it's not economical to store or transport them without freezing it. Now their beef, that's refrigerated but not actually frozen. All of the chicken is completely frozen though. And I'm not saying that to rag on Wendys, honestly I love their chicken. (Those homestyle chicken are AMAZING if you bake them. Couldn't tell from frying them but they have a subtle lemon flavor.) Just don't like it when people lie. To be fair I don't think the register person thought about it, I mean it's not like the chicken sits there forever. There's really high turnover for product. So it might have been in the freezer a few days or a week at the store itself, which all things considered I have things in my freezer far longer than that and it's just fine XD
Most likely they use freeze dried eggs turned into a powder form. The military used powdered eggs already in WW2 and was a common complaint in the MASH TV series. It is a method to create a longer shelf life and also to make transport a lot easier. Powder batches are also easier to analyze in the lab and give it a grade. Many school lunches consist of grade C ingredients...
I don't see what's the problem guys. Nutrition facts are nutrition facts. Ingredients are different. The only reason you want to worry about ingredient is if you have some kind of reaction to them. Ofcourse the ingredients are regulated and safe for you by Health Canada.
I don't believe any of those businesses has funded CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, think, like BBC, a government-owned "public corporation"...) for the last 45 years (that's how long this program has been on the air up there...). Nope, they have other bureaucratic quirks...
KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken, if you didn't know...) is in A LOT OF COUNTRIES AROUND THE WORLD, including many Canadian neighborhoods... He didn’t like the sandwich so we don’t order door dash anymore

I'm a little disturbed that the man actually thought Subway's chicken was straight from the farm with no additives or other unnatural content. There's a reason that they are able to offer $5 footlong sandwiches, but if it was actually natural ingredients it would probably have to retail at closer to $10.
For someone thats worked at Subway.. The chicken isn't even real chicken? I can peel it apart when its thawed or cooked (more likely heated) and it doesn't come apart like real chicken. Everything is artificial. The chicken strips at Subway are literally just like the oven roasted chicken. Just chopped smaller. It's called marketing. That's how they get business. The grill marks are just to make you think it's real and for appeal.
Grilling meat creates umami, the 5th taste, and one preferred by men. Also grill marks make the food appear better. 2 good reasons for grilling the meat.
As SOON as I started to watch this, I guessed Subway would be the worst. My reason for that is because Subway was caught in the past, selling their multigrain buns, which were in fact, white bread with maple food colouring! So they have a history of this sort of crap. I stopped eating there when I learned that. Put it all together and Subway is one crooked business! I would have liked to hear the results for McDonalds, as my wife and I love their chicken. I am happy about Wendy's as my wife and I eat there. But, we rarely eat out, so honestly, it isn't as big an issue for us. We tend to make our own food at home, and I am glad we do now.
Their multigrain bread WAS multigrain. The maple food additive, as you say, was just added for color. Subway multigrain braid is vastly different than their white bread. It actually has multiple grains in it. Why spread a bunch of lies that are easily disproven by reading Subway's ingredient list?
well if you pay attention to their new commercials mcdonalds says "NOW made with 100% chicken" which started last year i believe. so good luck to you if you ate a lot of it before hand lol
you still buy all your food from a grocery store that uses chemicals just to keep them looking fresh. this day in age its impossible to not eat processed food unless you live far away from a concrete jungle.
It is easier said than done though. When you have kids and a full-time job it's hard to care for the kids in the morning, work all day, go back to caring for the kids and make a big meal, clean up a big meal, take care of the kids some more, then drop and do it again the next day. Cooking often takes away the little time you have to relax, or be with your kids. Whereas I can buy Wendy's and be done with the entire transaction AND food in less than 5 minutes, with no clean up. I'm not saying it's right, I'm really trying to do exactly this, but I get why people try to ignore how bad it is just to not cook. It is 1,000% more effort, time and money to cook your own food. It's hard..
Should’ve placed them in different rooms. The results would’ve been more authentic. With all of them side by side, one can be influenced by the others’ opinions.
nkjenknkwefdk on top of the fact it looked it good. the other ones all looked kinda grosse. normally you wouldn't care if it's in a bun, on its own tho is bad
Except it isn't. CBC got sued over this, and the only reason they didn't get hammered was because they passed off responsibility to the people who mucked up the testing.
as a truck driver, i have hauled the "tubs of chicken mix" that gets blended and pressed into a loaf by third parties before subway gets it, after seeing the tubs first hand, i would not touch subway with a 20 foot pole, i have seen bone fragments in the tubs
fast food is really only time when you don't have enough time to cook or your out in town all day, we eat dinner at around 5-6pm and no later then 7pm and it takes about 1hour to get home from town
@Capaini' Don't all people in one box. Those that really care about what they eat typically won't touch fast food or overly process foods and all snacks. Either100% or only occasionally when they think they have to for convenience. At times I'm tempted but what usually stops is knowing I can avoid all the chemicals they have to use and saving money. Sonic will cost me $7-$8 for a burger and a drink and that is double or more than the ingredients would cost me and I avoid the chemicals.
How could the guy who regularly eats at subway not recognize the chicken. You literally see them take out the cold chicken and heat it in front of your eyes when you order a sub. I get that this is all acting but geez man, this is one point that is just too obvious to ignore.
Subha Mohan they say when you don't know something and it's just letters for the name your brain thinks it's something different.n they have done studies telling ppl a type of food was the most expensive food and organic really it was just McDonald's and it made them think it tasted better than when they knew it was McDonald's
Also each piece of chicken is exactly the same size and shape. So, it is not cut from a chicken at all. Its chopped, and formed in the exact same shape. Nuts.
If you didn't know, Tim hortons' chicken is actually prepared in the microwave .... I worked there for over 6 months and we only put the frozen chicken in the microwave until it's hot
This was a bad experiment. You put his chicken last and there's a psychological aspect in that. They should have put his in the middle and not have him there giving visual ques
Jebrone Love Kitten Or have each person in a separate room. I have a feeling that in some way the kid (or the other adults) were influenced from the previous judgements.
Mr. Sleepy No matter what you are testing, if your _process_ is flawed your results will be as well; if this had been a company testing a product officially, the results would have been thrown out. If they wanted to actually test this properly they should have had them all in separate rooms (or at very least had them save the chatter for the end so they didn't influence one another and a sheet to put notes on) giving the chicken in random order for _each_ person (put them on identical paper plates with the label on the underside so you know which is which).
KyleCorbeau Even more important: Noone in the room is allowed to know which is which, and the letter assignment/ordering must be randomized with completely even odds.
3:50 and then that crazy lady came into the store today, and asked me if it's frozen or fresh. I told her fresh, freshly removed from the freezer! How dare they do a Chicken battle with out the colonel's KFC, we know they would have won that battle hands down. as they only use 100% real genetically altered chickens, with four legs and four wings.
I remember going to subway once, only to see their chicken floating in water. Also when I got a roast beef sandwich, they opened up a container as if it was cat food and dumped it on.
I worked at Subway for a period. Food is typically taken out of the package or prepared about a day before, depends on how busy it gets. When the container that they have on display is running out, they take the container that had previously been prepared, take the old one out, put whatever is still in it over the new one, and put the new one in. If they dumped the new container over the old one, that was a big mistake on the staff's part. Depending on the rest of the staff and your manager, doing stuff like that can also get you in trouble.
I sure appreciate this test. Eat at home. It's cheaper and safer. Just cook a huge batch, wrap, and freeze it till you're ready to warm it and serve. It will save lots of time. Especially when you BBQ. The leftovers will taste so good.
PATRICK STAR Yes, it's the speed of cooking. specifically the short time between ordering and serving. That doesn't justify selling a meatball as a solid peace of meat or meatsauce as potato.
lol DOES it matter. We eat at fast food knowing is bad anyways. Never once when I order a fast food I though about what's real and not. If I want a healthy meal I would cook at home which I do. Not sure what CBC made this video

So Wendy's doesn't have sodium phosphate in their meat ingredients lists, and as that scientist showed that's mostly used so food can retain moisture when frozen - when he mixed it up we saw it got kind of gelatinous. Wendy's marketing says "fresh not frozen" so I guess there's some truth in advertising, sometimes?
I worked at Wendy's for 2 years ( not my mom cousin uncle on the left side of the family ) and deal with the delivery , all chicken and 90% of fries go in the freezer, the meat and the renaming fries in the fridge with the milk juice tomato etc... but that was 15 years go so maybe it as changed
No, hes switching hands. His dominate hand is his right. But table manners says you should always cut with you dominate hand. While eating with your non dominate. Kids dont have the same dexterity as teens/adults, and so they tend to switch between the 2 because theyre more comfortable that way. She probably hasnt been working with him much on the issue because people in general are not following table manners as often.
I work for Wendy's, and I'm the grill opener for the store I work at. I know our grilled chicken is real, as well as our homestyle, and spicy. Sometimes the texture of the grilled isn't the greatest, but keep in mind that not all chickens are the same. Its not the taste, but the size of the fillet, or some of the connective tissue that doesn't get removed during processing. BUT, it is real chicken with seasonings.
@boss 630 ya, but when the meat is disintegrating as you work with it... I mean my wife does the shopping and brings home these packages of chicken breast from WinCo that are so huge I would think it was from a turkey! A chicken breast shouldn't be the size of a partialy deflated football.... To me they violate nature and process the animal from inception to package..... Me I just what to know where it came from and how did it come to this point of I'm so disgusted I have to flush the whole package down the disposer.....
"Fast Food" means don't trust that it's all natural food. Natural food restaurant's that just cook the food as is, without messing with it is the best bet .
True, but it does come with a hefty price tag. Artisan street food trucks are another option. Most are locals that are creating a handful of dishes with ingredients they usually buy daily at wholesale supermarkets. On the other hand, it is not so bad if you visit a fast food restaurant every now and then (let's say 3 or 4 times a year). I know McDonald's hamburgers are not 100% beef, but my kids love their happy meals and have real fresh food on weekdays. Saturday is our guilty pleasure day (fast food or pizza) and on sunday we pick-up a takeout order from a restaurant.
I love how they choose the most wholesome people. An adorable nice older lady whose personality reminds me of my late mother, a dude who’s a fan of subway. A nice mother who is allowed to bring her children to taste test. I guess it just makes the program more real.
No matter what the filler was, it wasn't the chicken you paid for. And Subway was also caught using white bread with food colouring and calling them Multigrain buns in the past, so I wouldn't trust anything they sell.
The kid has a greater vocabulary than anyone on the panel. I do agree they should have been tested separately. The adult Male kept looking at the kid for affirmation after his opinion was way different than the others.
@@jonniebrim6531Your fine, just ignore this clown. Anyone who didn't understand what your trying to say, in a TH-cam comment section (lol) by making some low tier English joke....Is better off just being ignored.
You do some of the most honest work I've seen from a news channel, but I think you make some of the problems you highlight a bigger deal than they might be. Examples I saw were that you skipped a bunch of ingredients to ask about that one ingredient, and when the actual scientist told you it isn't any more dangerous than salt, you cut directly to your personal professional that said she "believes could" turn out to be very unhealthy.
I mean, I would naturally assume what I'm getting is the real deal. I work at a sandwich place now for another larger chain. From what I know being there, all the product is fresh. The meat is sliced daily, we get a supplier that brings in the vegetables, the only real thing that isn't is the bread, condiments (mustard(s) and mayo and possibly oil+vinegar) and cookies. The bread is frozen dough, but gets thawed out, stretched and then baked in the oven. The cookies are pre-made, frozen and let to thaw out. Basically everything for a sandwich is fresh and real from what I personally know and I'm in the US.
As someone working in the food industry 25 plus years, I've rarely seen full muscle used- it's not cost effective; textured soy is used as a filler to keep cost down which is an issue for those allergic to soy..in addition, phosphates are used to plump up to add weight..if in doubt always expect to pay substantially more for real chicken
I'm surprised the adult male couldn't identify subways chicken as subways chicken. I don't go there often, but it being as iconic as it is even I was able to spot it as subways.

It is 100% frozen.
Don’t tell anybody about the chili meat lol 🤫
@@ChrisP.Bacon008 XD It's not *that* bad. Usually.
You dont have tseco in canada? Subway can buy raw chicken from there. What is the big problem?
Not much to add there.
nothing wrong with freezing meat, it's how it's reared that's important
They’re going to have to do this with the Popeye’s chicken sandwich.

It's crazy when they start to boast "Now with REAL eggs" - You gotta wonder what they were using up to that!
A fast food restaurant has all bagged ingredients. And just micro waved. Chicken from Mexico.
Mcdonalds uses real eggs in australia!
Turned me into a vegetarian!
mjd Edge
Have you ever had scrambled eggs at a buffet or in the hospital? What are they made of?
Most likely they use freeze dried eggs turned into a powder form. The military used powdered eggs already in WW2 and was a common complaint in the MASH TV series.
It is a method to create a longer shelf life and also to make transport a lot easier. Powder batches are also easier to analyze in the lab and give it a grade. Many school lunches consist of grade C ingredients...
Thats funny because ive been saying for years that those grill lines are painted on lol
Chris Barreira Same. It's just shocking how some people are so naive and believe everything they are told. Smh
Why are there "grill marks" on "oven roasted" chicken in the first place?
Roasting doesn't make grill marks, _grilling_ does.

I don't see what's the problem guys. Nutrition facts are nutrition facts. Ingredients are different. The only reason you want to worry about ingredient is if you have some kind of reaction to them. Ofcourse the ingredients are regulated and safe for you by Health Canada.

Oh, these guys forgot a very important fact... WHERE'S KFC? And every other chicken-based chain's products...
(Inquiring minds wanna' know...)
I don't believe any of those businesses has funded CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, think, like BBC, a government-owned "public corporation"...) for the last 45 years (that's how long this program has been on the air up there...). Nope, they have other bureaucratic quirks...
Proof?
I just assume it's cause they're only testing grilled chicken (no idea if KFC has grilled chicken but I've never seen it in my area)
you might not have noticed but its grilled only no fried
KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken, if you didn't know...) is in A LOT OF COUNTRIES AROUND THE WORLD, including many Canadian neighborhoods...

Both GRILLED and FRIED versions are available in several countries (grilled isn't available where I live anymore...)

You're correct fast food is getting expensive. You might as well go to a restaurant were your served.
Yes that’s true. I ordered door dash from Burger King for my son and I. I tipped 5 dollars because it’s not far from where we live but my car was down so anyway with that and the door dash delivery fee and one whopper meal and one chking meal it was 32 dollars which is ridiculous but my son wanted to try the chking so I agreed to it. He didn’t like the sandwich so we don’t order door dash anymore
Yeah soda has went from 99 cents to 2.70

I'm a little disturbed that the man actually thought Subway's chicken was straight from the farm with no additives or other unnatural content. There's a reason that they are able to offer $5 footlong sandwiches, but if it was actually natural ingredients it would probably have to retail at closer to $10.
Yeah, subway chicken, and their other "meats" for that matter, come in a plastic bag.
Their chicken sandwich IS closer to $10.

Why the hell did Subway put artificial grill marks on OVEN ROASTED chicken?
so they didn't blow their cover but it didn't work
so they didn't blow their cover but it didn't work
I'll take a stab at this and guess... ummm.. it wasn't "oven roasted", heck, 50% of it isn't even chicken!
I appreciate your courage in revealing the truth about the renowned food brands.
What are these brands going to do? Improve quality??? Lol
The mcdonald's was 100% chicken. All of them were besides the 2 subway ones
well if you pay attention to their new commercials mcdonalds says "NOW made with 100% chicken" which started last year i believe. so good luck to you if you ate a lot of it before hand lol
Neil Roy good to know. I usually get a veggie at subway but the bread still weirds me out.
Uh, you think it is fresh? They even put some additives in the veggies to keep them looking fresh.
The chicken is rubbery

Home cooking is the best. You have more control of what you put into it.
Dwayne Wladyka True, but this video is meant more for people who need a bite in hurry and want to know the best option.
How do you cook WITHOUT sugar, salt, or oil? I mean you can't make anything... not even bread.
SimmonSays I agree. However, if you have spare time, make meals and freeze them. Heat them up quickly and you are good to go.
who ami You said most. Look where you purchase your food from. That helps.
you still buy all your food from a grocery store that uses chemicals just to keep them looking fresh. this day in age its impossible to not eat processed food unless you live far away from a concrete jungle.
Whenever you want a food, go on TH-cam to learn how to prepare it, buy the stuff and cook for yourself.
nah to much time and money
Or just get skip the dishes😆
It's hard..

That may be true. However, the Chef's chicken breast is 100% chicken meat.:)
Mr. Sleepy
No matter what you are testing, if your _process_ is flawed your results will be as well; if this had been a company testing a product officially, the results would have been thrown out.

I remember going to subway once, only to see their chicken floating in water. Also when I got a roast beef sandwich, they opened up a container as if it was cat food and dumped it on.
Chad Stuetzel good lord......
Or what about the tuna water 💦
Chad Stuetzel Subway pretty much is cat food
Canned or packaged tuna is typically stored in water or oil anyway.

I work for Wendy's, and I'm the grill opener for the store I work at. I know our grilled chicken is real, as well as our homestyle, and spicy. Sometimes the texture of the grilled isn't the greatest, but keep in mind that not all chickens are the same. Its not the taste, but the size of the fillet, or some of the connective tissue that doesn't get removed during processing. BUT, it is real chicken with seasonings.

To be honest none of them look like real chicken. Besides the homemade one.

And it tastes as bad as it looks. The texture is bad, basically there is nothing good about it.
