    In South India such village tanks are connected in tandem so that overflow of one tank directly reaches downstream tank.

    An object lesson in people taking their fate into their own hands. They provide for themselves and keep the central government out of it. The best governance is local governance. Let those who depend on a resource manage it and it will be done better, faster and with less cost.

    For this problem to occur in the first place, not a single child or grandchild must have listened to an elder or inquired about these structures for some 50-75 years. That's the astonishing part here, not that structures build to last and function thousands of years require little maintaining to go right back to work.

      Bro I’m going to blow your mind, you realize something called Colonialism happened. Where European colonizers conquered and basically destroyed our nation, India had World GDP total of 30% before British arrived, when they left we had gdp of less than 2 percent, many of our ancestors were forced off their farms into the cities to work factories or shipped off as indentured servants (slaves) across the colonies.

    • @catherinegilon4275
      @catherinegilon4275 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Apologies, I did misunderstand Kodai as kodo which is millet. The regional accent was difficult to decipher even for a local like me. The voiceover is done by a person whose native language is not Tamil so their pronunciations might be slightly off, we will work to improve on this too. Thank you for your feedback, we will learn from our mistakes.

      @@catherinegilon4275 Thank you Ma'am for the quality content, some additions- From Chennai suburbs onwards to entire dry regions in Tamilnadu, you will find OORANIS and Kanmaai everywhere, Ooranis are stone lined, for Drinking and cooking, while kanmaai is larger in size and used for agriculture and rainwater harvest, ground water table recharge. Most Ooranis are tied up with local Hindu Temples. In my Native Place in nearby District we have hundred years older stone construction underground water canals to bring water from Kanmaai outside of the village to the oorani. These run for many kilometers and during rain the water falls like a fountain!. Also you will find different water harvesting methods in Rajasthan, I know because I have worked there. you can connect this with the Peruvian civilization
      Maayons are said to have developed these water channeling techniques doing agriculture inside the forest likewise the Tamils but they're mentioned as maayons in the literature and Mayans they're inhabitants from a long off place
      The Europeans had dug water trenches in front of a fort or mausoleum but it was never done here instead the are sacred ponds
      Madurai the last sangam survives let Tamil live on forever.

    Or atleast explain what those locals say in their great language.. The essense is lost when we are reading those tiny alphabets for 2 minutes and then again focus on listening and viewing.. and again back to reading..
    Whoever is the producer of this content is clearly uninterested in giving a great content..

    • @davesanthri
      @davesanthri 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand your frustration, it is nearly impossible to translate Tamil into any other language, it is a very ancient language. The lady narrating is having a hard time even pronouncing Indian words, she will further completely alter the meanings from the original content. I think she is Pakistani, Tajiki or Persian. 1:40. The way she pronounces the name of the Kanmai, she basically butchers the meaning. Thenkarai means south shore of a man made or natural water body. Probably the name of the Kanmai is something different or there could be two water bodies adjacent to each other with a cascade. 2:20 She mentions "Historically water bodies....", apparently she does not know English or knowledge of these things. The appropriate phrase should have been "Until recent past......" I have seen people maintaining these with co-operative effort and also some times along with Public Works Department. I bet it still happens a lot. This must be a video made to made to screen to get money out of donors pockets or to show in the books of the works being executed. They are not mentioning the name of the village clearly. We are all hearing these kind of stories all over the world of NGOs doing good work I dont know how long, but these things are not reflected in ground reality. The Union Government is basically sucking out all the money from these regions to spend it in the north, basically the people from the northern part of the country have made the south as a colony for exploitation of tax revenue.

People just don’t look healthy, clearly showing that anaemic conditions due to lack of affordability to eat nutritious foods still prevails a lot. See if you can convince your governments that they must bring industry for you to lessen your hard work... Or provide you basics at your doorstep... Whatsoever suits them... Your government... Your life.... Your decisions... Teaching south india is not my area... Nor my cup of tea... You are those indians who are the most faithful to America... Born for America... Die for America...
