  • I'm in the market for a new luxury watch... looking at high end premium Swiss brands is just not to my budget... so had a search for micro brands, and some are looking very nice, but their background and aftermarket value looks shady... so I decided to stick with a brand I love and trust and that's CASIO... now I didn't know CASIO had anything to do with Grand SEIKO so this OCW-S100 Oceanus was something that really made me want it after reading about that!

    Watched the video, bought the watch. It is as close to perfection as it is possible to get in a watch. There is nothing else on the market with solar, auto time correction, hand alignment reset and custom date alignment. Add in Titanium case and bracelet and Sapphire glass and you have the best value for money watch in the world. 100 metre water resistance is good enough for swimming, snorkelling and showering, so it will cope with all normal sport activities.

      @@JavierBonillaC Definately a diferent look. Horses for courses I think. Some will prefer the Oceanus, others the more subtle and contemporary Atessas. I have a few of both, feeling they suit diferent occasions. Although fairly dressy, I can't pair an Oceanus with leather. Something which works extremely well, with many of the Citizens.

    Casio and especially Seiko, beat the Swiss in all aspects. I've been a mechanical snob my whole life. Just added two Seiko Astrons to my collection, happy accurate camper. Next purchase thanks to you, Casio Rangeman.

      Hey buddy... I'm a quartz guy for sure, think that's pretty obvious, but do like the odd dinosaur mechanical watch LML :-P
      When I was at SEIKO Boutique in London I was really looking at those Astrons and thinking how incredible they look... I did a short video about that day so maybe have a look, as I featured the Astron's too. I remember when this Oceanus was released and have always been watching them... then the new T200 came out, but wasn't titanium but had Bluetooth... even though it looked good, there was something more special with the titanium, especially when Grand SEIKO is involved... this is the same for the Astrons I believe? Japan only, unless you find a decent used one in your land, which is very rare to see.
      I absolutely love it, it's exactly what I've been looking for, as anyone wearing this is someone who knows their watches, and isn't a snobwatchsheep LML :-P
      Have you seen my CERTINA DS Multi-8 review... I must say, I hope CASIO start making these adjustments to their G-Shocks at least as the module used is very decent indeed :)
      So, I need a Astron :)))

    The intro is gold!! I have a Casio Oceanus OCW-T3000A. The amount of features (dual time, stop watch, radio controlled, solar, Bluetooth, DLC bezel, micro-adjust clasp, polishing, etc.) is epic for $750.

    • @WatchUP69MrRangeman
      @WatchUP69MrRangeman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The intro was just to show that Swiss luxury micro brands are really a big scam in my opinion, no history, no future support and you'll lose so much money when you come to flip... these Oceanus's are on another level, from a founder that's one of the biggest names in the industry, yet they don't exploit this by making their watches cost you as much as a nice new motorcycle for an example, well a few from the MTG series, but these are investments. The T3000 is a lovely piece, and something I would consider especially on the price front.

      Thank you so much my friend, that was really nice to read :) It's my ultimate dress/sports watch in my collection, and wearing it really is special, not only is it super light and comfortable, but you will very unlikely meet someone wearing the same, they just don't make these in their millions like BOLEX watches LML :-P My good friend posted a brilliant video on his OCW-S100, as he goes further into the design and build, and for me this will certainly secure your choice. Looks much better in life, as the city codes really are discrete until you need them, so very impressed with that side, as a few have said they don't like that side, but trust me, they're magical until needed.
      A subscriber was having an alignment issue with his T200, which is the stainless Bluetooth version of the S100, and what we discovered, is that the hour and minute hands can only be calibrated using the connected App, and both hands are connected, while the S100 is fully independent and can be fine tuned... also the hands are controlled each hour against you're manual calibration... buddy, I really can't lift this watch further, and I'm so pleased I pulled the decision and bought it, there isn't another watch that can replace it, especially for the money :)
      Big reply, but like to give as much informations as possible... and here's my buddy's link to his review on the S100 th-cam.com/video/vT5-eFw4n4Y/w-d-xo.html

      Thank you for your feedback my friend... it is simple and once set you really aren't needed, but nice to know how to adjust the DST, or why is the MB6 doesn't work :)
      I've had a few messages with a few saying they went for the T200 instead, but aren't happy that it's not a Tough Movement like on the S100, whereas the hands are driven together on the T200, while the S100 is independent with sensors that calibrate the gears every hour, or when it's subject to a massive impact.
      It's the watch I choose for nice occasions, and I have to say, the titanium still looks fresh from the factory :))

      @@WatchUP69MrRangeman Thank you for the response (via TH-cam noreply email). An added bonus I got from your tutorial is the Clock Wave sync radio control app. I downloaded and tested it this morning. It worked! * This is very useful for some locations because the signal from the nearest Atomic Clock can be too weak. Sometimes the automatic correction does not function, a bit hit or miss, for my location - near Oslo. Certainly i know Trondheim (550 km further north) does not receive the signal. Also, I noticed when in Spain that the signal reception from the German Atomic Clock nonexistent. So, your introducing me to the Clock Wave app is a tangible result that will be useful for «out of range» places.
      The 100 model is my choice too, I really like the titanium carbide coated titanium.
      This watch is amazing value for the price.
      No problem with the ANUS humour - according to Wikipedia Oceanus = Oceanos a Greek river god.
      I have subscribed to your channel.
      Best wishes,

    Well I'm not waiting until the video finishes: Well done sir! A superb choice. Watch enthusiasts know that the most important things to have in a watch are accuracy and reliability. 2 criteria that imo this watch fulfills perfectly. If you add then the affordable (in comparison with Breitling, Rolex, Patek etc) price, the quality control that a made-in-Japan watch has and the features that this watch has, then the choice is more obvious. I bought some days ago the Wave Ceptor tough solar M6 (WVA-M650) for 95 Euros. Even though it doesn't compare with the Oceanus, still is a superb watch for the price. I also have a JDM Seiko 5 SNZB21 and a Seiko Premier Kinetic Perpetual, so I'm not at all a quartz fanboy and I don't think at all that quartz (solar) watches lack of a "soul" like many watch "enthusiasts" do.

      @WatchUP69MrRangeman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey buddy... now I do remember replying to your great comment, but reading through seen it has vanished, well, rude not to reply again, and wanted to say thank you :)) Quartz was once the turning point in watches making many Swiss watch factories fade away, but the worm has turned and quartz does get the kick back as being second place, well I'm into all movements really, but quartz is my favourite, and when you have the likes of electronic quarts and meca-quartz then to top it, the spring drive (almost but am sure you know what I mean) you have some twists to just a standard tick tick :)
      Really pleased with my S100, and is still part of my collection, and to me is one of the most value for money watches... I like how the S100 movement is used only for that watch, so really keeps it unique :)
      Thanks again and sorry you never got my original reply???

    Very nice and informative, wonder why there aren’t more views. My entire collection is Japanese - it wasn’t my initial intention, but it ended up that way. Every single piece is interesting at their own price point - from my beater Citizen NY2300 diver, the adorable yet very functional Baby G Hello Kitty watch, to the fascinating Bulova/Citizen Quartz Moonwatch, a wonderfully unique tool/pilot JDM Seiko (SARW019) to my top piece - a chunky Astron Dualtime. The latter was recommended by my Japanese friends when we checked out watches in Akihabara at Yodobashi. They said that Seiko was from their region (Nagano) and is famous for their watch making due to the clean air there...this story is just the cherry on top and why I’m happy that my love and interest for Japan is reflected in my collection.

      You're welcome... I do flip my watches, but they are my watches that I've bought and not those cheap ones that are flooding the screens at the moment, meaning they're mass produced costing little to make, but are selling at a few hundred hyping up the sapphire and ceramic side, while my Oceanus S100 just kills them all in every department... titanium that's made by Grand Seiko and a movement that's not used in any other watch, so to me that makes it very special :)) therefor I have no intentions to part with it, it's a SWISS BOLEX killer LML :-P
      I have no idea how many are produced, but it seem they're made in low batches, so quite unlikely to spot someone with the same watch :))
      I highly recommend the S100, and a few have been glazing over the Bluetooth T200, but they're different watches inside and out, and you were brought here by the S100 in the first place... I was thinking the same, but my aim was with the S100, as anything less is less if that makes sense.
      One of the most comfortable watches in my collection too, really light and just looks quality... it's not an EdiFice as some think, it's really in a wonderful class without it being dressy or wet LML :-P
      I took the measurements myself, thus why it's so to the punkt :))

    • @WatchUP69MrRangeman
      @WatchUP69MrRangeman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My friend, you are going to be in for a treat... just to say... enjoy it first before taking it out of the box, soak up all that perfect finishes and the solid build, and looking at it you'll think it'll have weight... then once you remove the watch off the pillow, you won't believe how light it is... it looks like stainless steel, it doesn't have that dull grey that is often associated with titanium, and to think this is from the SEIKO, the Grand SEIKO side... and the movement used is only used on the S100, no other watch in the world uses that movement, unlike the zillions of ETA movements... it really is something great, and that movement is really something special too... tough movement, meaning it has 3 brushless motors, and each one has a sensor on the gears so it aligns perfectly, even after a very hard impact... you'll also notice the city code vanish when you're not wanting them, then appear when you do, so very clever, as in photos it looks quite dominate, but it isn't... well you'll see :))
      comes in a lovely white box, well mine did with the instructions tucked next to it... just feels great from the start. I've had mine for a little while, and it is my posh watch, and each time I never see another one worn... so only those who know will be wearing one, so very elite :)
      Let us know when it lands and you've had time with it... any problems just ask me, I know all it can do... would never flip mine that's for sure!
      You done well with the price, so should be in lovely condition too :)
      Cheers and excited for you :)

All of your prep work and dedication to deliver the info to your channel viewers is greatly appreciated. Swimming against the current, I like that. Well my friend, after living in CH for just over 10yrs I got to live some of those watch factories, and their secrets are always too shady for me... and when it's high priced micro brands these really grind my gears, especially when they drop their prices hard, thus the need to show exactly what Oceanus can offer. In my opinion the new ones like mine and upwards are made to a level more than many known Swiss brands, and that titanium isn't just polished, it's actually made by Grand Seiko ;)
      My friend from Watch Crazy borrowed my S100 a short while ago, and was totally blown away, so made a video with his opinions.
      There's another side to the Oceanus, everyone sees it as a beautiful premium piece, yet nobody questions if it's fake ;)

      @@WatchUP69MrRangeman I agree. I've never seen value in the $1000+ micro brands. I think there are some great microbrand watches to be had under $500. @@blake70505 My first CASIO was part of the tachometer series, and then went to ProTrek.... Wasn't till 2000 when I bought my first G-Shock which I still have and it works ;) I've never had issues unless with a PRG-40 when it wouldn't fire up after replacing the four batteries, sent it to CASIO and they fixed it with no charge... and the watch was over 6yrs old ;) Big respect to CASIO and that is why it's my favourite brand. Am into other brands, but when asked, CASIO always tops for me. I was looking at the S100 for a while before I finally went for the sale... I thought prices would drop, but seems they're stuck around that £500 area, and they'll become collectable just because of their unique clean design. The camera doesn't do it justice, as you may see it as an EdiFice, but in the flesh you really see that perfection.
      I agree, some nice micro brands under 500, anything over 1000 need shooting, and those that review and promote them that are over 1000 need shooting too LML I'm no nonsense and just review watches with passion, and my content is either bought or borrowed and it needs to be something I really like. I did a review on a Spinnaker watch, and they weren't impressed with my review, as they wanted me to chat about it, but instead I took it to Switzerland and put it through some tests and used motion to explain how it really is, so I'm not a channel that takes watches to be owned and told how to film. I'm graced I have a watch shop that loan me watches, and they love my style and humour, and this reflects their shop, which is what us watch addicts prefer, instead of all this hype snobby nonsense ;-P

    • @WatchUP69MrRangeman
      @WatchUP69MrRangeman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The T200 does look cleaner... but the S100 has become an iconic piece for something so modern... it's the Grand SEIKO case and bracelet finish is what this piece is about. If you feel you're getting the T200 to save then maybe it's for the wrong reason, but if you like the T200 regardless then go for a good deal, prices did drop on them as it's not for everyone. Shame you can't just grab them both and feel them for real. I can't say which one is best for you, but I did look at the T200 as it has the Bluetooth side, but decided that the titanium finish is to why I was looking at them in the first place.

      Andrew Benson With your reply I would take a breather and not make a decision just yet... if it’ll bug you that you never pushed for the S100 then the T200 just won’t sit right and make you feel not as happy. The S100 finish is nothing but flawless, and it feels it’s worth thousands... there is also the writing on both watches, the S100 is more discrete and isn’t noticeable until you need it... also, the crowns are different on both, the T200 has a Royal Oak style, so is that a detail that you like... I would take a screenshot of both and just flip between them picking details you like and details you don’t... make a list and that should help... but just don’t make a hasty choice you’ll later regret... ask me any questions too as it’s a pleasure... cheers ;)

      Cheers buddy... I just have mine on auto DST which it's already set on... now the only reason why you have the option to adjust is if you don't have a MB6 signal... or if the battery is low (when the battery is low it won't look for a MB6 sync)
      It really is a watch once setup which is very easy you don't need to touch a thing... when travelling you just switch it to your chosen time zone and it'll update the MB6 automatically as long as you're within the atomic zone.
      I've really been enjoying this watch, and I really have no lust for a Swiss BOLEX at all... in fact it's way way better and I can argue that quite easily with regards to the value... the finish on the titanium is nothing but perfection... you really don't see titanium, until you pick it up.
      Grand SEIKO have excelled themselves and I really would like to try another ANUS for sure LML :-P

    Such that no swiss/mechanical watch can match the practicality, functionality and doing in style and elegance as well. I tried a mechanical watch set side on friday, monday come back its alrd stop moving, not practical.
    You should take a look eqb-1000, when i received my watch i noted its even more stunning in person, no regrets.

    That was a great review. Like others, I'm stuck between the S100 and T200. I prefer the overall look of the T200, but would prefer the more compact dimensions of the S100.
    I have some critiques of the S100 though. The integrated bracelet is a big drawback in my eyes as using straps is out of the question. I think getting a replacement bracelet would be difficult if it was damaged . I also wish the 'TOUGH MVT' wasn't printed on the dial, it seems unnecessary. Having some bluetooth functionality would be a bonus too.

    • @WatchUP69MrRangeman
      @WatchUP69MrRangeman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Cheers buddy :)
      I was looking at the S100 long before the new T200 came out... and when that happened I was thinking "Bluetooth" must be better, but why the price drop... well it's all down to the finish and that Grand SEIKO made the case and bracelet, which to me equals a very affordable Grand SEIKO with MR-G inside so to speak... I know what you mean with the end links, but the build on the S100 is on another level, and you could say this about any part of the watch with regards to finding replacements... if this got damaged I would guess you went through a crusher like what the T-800 Terminator went through... the bracelet is part of the watch, and if you're thinking to change the bracelet then maybe this isn't for you... would be such a shame not to use the bracelet in my opinion... I have the same view as you with regards to print on a dial... I'm not a fan of 'AUTOMATIC' on any dial, and I'm not into having '10 year battery' written also on watches... the 'TOUGH MVT' on the dial would look better without, I'm not sure why this kind of statement is needed... I'm sure it's better to have 'This is made of titanium and your stainless watch is poop' LML :-P
      I'm just in the middle of a new video about dial layouts on the same model watch, and what were they thinking kind of questions... maybe someone will hate me as once you pointed something out your eyes can't stop looking hey :-P
      The T200 looks nice... but for me the S100 is the one that got me interested the most into Oceanus... I also prefer the subtle information on the dial of the S100 than on the T200, again, not sure why make it so bold, as it's not used very often? The general look of the T200 does look more sporty with the bigger bezel and that hex crown... I would not rush in any hasty choice, and really take a step back and really become nip-picky even further. The secondary prices on the S100 are always solid, but haven't looked at the T200, so worth also looking in that field, as flipping it later might hurt the most.
      Cheers for your opinions which are all very valid :))

    Great review Mr Rangeman, a quick question that I think I already know the answer to. So, in your demonstration, you show changing the home time from LON to TYO and then returning to LON. Yet when you use the Atomic Time Emulator, it looks like you use the JJY signal and not the MSF signal. I thought that the atomic signal sync only occurred when the watch was set to one of the nominated Home Cities and then, ONLY with the respective signal i.e. TYO-JJY, LON-MSY etc. or is it possible to have the time zone set to one place and force the watch to sync from a source in a different region. I ask this as I am in Australia and would like to leave the watch set to SYD and sync via the JJY signal (via an emulator of course) rather than have to change the home time to TYO, sync via JJY, and then change back to SYD (I hope that makes sense). Thanks again.

      @WatchUP69MrRangeman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you my friend.... Watch & Roll has done some amazing in-depth thoughts on his, so gives his videos some views, as he really was the one that made my decision final :))
      On the clasp side of the bracelet, you'll see some small holes either side, one side uses the clasp to secure to the fold over clasp, while the other is to adjust the bracelet... there's just a few holes, so might not be enough, therefore you'll need to remove a half or full link. To adjust the micro adjustment, just need something to push in the hole, and all it uses is a spring pin. The bracelet links need a tool to push a pin out, which will have a very small spring collar needed to hold the pin in place, so make sure you do this over a clean surface area, as those collars are small. Just need a bracelet splitter, nothing fancy, but get a metal one, not that blue plastic one, that will break :-P

My Casio Duro Batman also being one of my favorite weekend pieces with a $60 Stainless Steel Bracelet from Long Island Watch. I think I’ll keep my watches under $500 as I love quartz, with only one NH35 Steeldive Submariner in my collection. You can get remarkably well made watches for that price point. I’d like a Dan Henry 1972 and this Casio S100, probably be my top two favorites.

      It's a watch that you never need to worry... if you change time zones then just a quick turn of the crown and it's ready, and it'll even MB6 in that time zone... truly an amazing movement, and not used in any other CASIO's as far as I've read.

    @WatchUP69 Mr Rangeman I tried through smartphone app manual way and it was able to sync correct time but the watch is still showing "N" from of that last reslut indicator. Is that normal ? Also if the time is accurate, will the watch still try to sync every night and show you "Y" or "N" ?

    • @WatchUP69MrRangeman
      @WatchUP69MrRangeman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Make sure you have the correct city code on the watch... so when you do the atomic sync via the app, does the second hand flip to 'Y'?
      Now, if the battery is a little low, the atomic side will turn off just to add.
      It should sync automatically each night between the hours of 00:00 to 06:00 trying a handful of times... now if you did a sync via the app say in the afternoon, come 00:00 it'll treat that as a new day, so will look for the signal... think this could be the reason?
      Mine does the sync via atomic and usually does it at 00:02 for some reason... but it's always on 'Y'
      let me know how you get along... cheers :))

    I have subscribed to your channel.
    Finally, I had no problem with the ANUS humour - but I note that: Wikipedia redirects “Oceanus” to “Oceanos” identified as a Titan son of Uranus and Gaia, the husband of his sister the Titan Tethys, and the father of the river gods and the Oceanids, as well as being the great river which encircled the entire world.

      Ok, the answers. The watch can only be set to one city code, so if set to LON then after midnight till 5am it'll update the time and date... as the chip-set is programmed with the DST it'll adjust this for you if you want to select the city code NYC... but you won't get MB6 when you're not in the actual city code which I'm sure you know. I didn't know New York was one week later, so this will be a good test for me too ;)

    How long does the power reserve last you? Where I live, winter is pretty long so my current Seiko Solar watch with a V157 (which supposedly has 10mo reserve, doubt it) battery dies out at some point towards December/January despite my efforts to keep it charged. During the summers, I keep it charged all the time and in sunlight whenever I can so as to keep the solar battery charged.
    I only spent $300 on that Seiko, but the Oceanus S100 will run me $700 CAD. I really don't want to deal with the headache of worrying about if the watch will make it through winters or not - what are your experiences w the power reserve specifically?

    • @WatchUP69MrRangeman
      @WatchUP69MrRangeman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey buddy..
      On a full battery it'll last 7 months, and that's with 18hrs of hand movement (time) Sleep state 6hrs with 4mins MB6 sync per day.
      If you turn off MB6 then I would guess you're looking over 10 months with normal use, and a possible 18-21 months if left in the dark at a guess compared to other sleeping solar watches.
      Hope that helps :)

    I think this watch is the best bang per buck out right now I have had mine for two years and I never take it off. I mean never snorkeling in the Bahamas, playing baseball with my son or with a suit and tie at work I wear it every day. And it runs perfect I have banged it on door jams, hit with a fly ball, slapped it against the water heater and it keeps on ticking. A Rolex Yacht-master is my dream watch but this watch makes you see that you really are just in love with the Rolex name brand because the Casio does everything you need and then some. If I get my hands on a Casio Oceanus OCW-650T
    I might be done buying watches all together till the Rolex at the age of 55 as a retirement gift. Grate Vid my friend.

    • @WatchUP69MrRangeman
      @WatchUP69MrRangeman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, thanks for sharing your experience with the same watch as me :)
      Now, where Oceanus is made you can see everything shown... the machines that make the small parts down to the area where it's all assembled wearing masks even on their ears... the cases and bracelets are from Grand SEIKO, and the movement used on the S100 is only used in that watch... absolutely amazing and all 100% proudly made in Japan.
      So, a BOLEX watch that's made in a massive industrial estate in Biel that's full with outer buildings all covered in BOLEX coronet logos that nobody really knows why... knowing where the profits exactly go to charity corporations which nobody wants to share, and their most common watches sold are stainless steel with a dinosaur movement inside with some gold on the dial... the videos you see of the inside of BOLEX is like there is only one guy making each watch slowly at 1 per year... and the reality they make on average 3-4000 a day... yes a day... it's mentioned that 1'000'000 is made a year, but looking at their empire of buildings in CH, that must be closer to 2 million. So with their clever marketing they have made a watch/brand the one many desire... for me it's worth the CHF300.- each for a Datejust, but at thousands with 40% of that paid to an AD, well that's not desirable to me, and most of the time many will question if it's real, mainly because fakes of today are almost on par, and they would be better, but for the fake industry to thrive they have to be just that little bit behind so to keep that excitment.
      If that's your dream watch, then it's for you and nobody else, for you to enjoy and reap that glow... while for me, I find the S100 and the Oceanus series more special, as they only make on average 50 at a time, unless they need to make other models like MR-G's, then it's placed on stop... so the chances of bumping into someone wearing a S100 is very low indeed, and the build in my opinion is superior than a steel Datejust... the movement alone is incredibly complex with many more parts over dinosaur automatics, and with the quartz side this is much more involving... remember when the quartz watches came out, they where extremely expensive especially the first SEIKO quartz, and many mechanical companies vanished from it... now some think quartz is the lesser of the movements and classed as cheap! I guess they're sheeped and can't be saved, which is a shame, as they're missing out... every strike of the second hand on the S100 hits the second/minute markers perfectly every time... the movement calibrates the hands every hour, and every night it will sync with the atomic clock frequency to keep time and date correct, and it even has the city codes that also sync when selected. I'm really wanting the OCW-S4000 as this just looks insane in build... no errors for misalignment or defects unlike BOLEX which has been posted... think about how many watches are made each day compared to employees... it's not clear exactly form today but from figures in 2008 there was 2800 working in Biel, and remember not all are making the watches physically, and with say 2500 a day back then, how is it possible to test each watch???? I've asked this question many times and nobody can give a true answer... with that aside, they are a very clever company/corporation and yeah, it's an investment if you're happy with their service prices. It's a dream watch for many, for me, it's just a watch amongst the millions they mass produce, and when I was looking for a luxury watch, I wanted something different, and the S100 is limited in the amount that are produced... are they still produced?
      I'm impressed for a 100m watch you did snorkelling... that just made me even more HaPpY :))
      Btw, no offence if you choose a BOLEX, I will still be respectful :))
      Cheers and enjoy the weekend!

      @@WatchUP69MrRangeman thanks for the info my friend. And everything you are saying makes sense. I think quartz will always have a up hill battle because a lot of people are still pissed that it put so many watch brands out of work.
      I will say that you are 100% right about rolex they are over priced and the fakes are geting better and better. But I think they same can be said for a lot of mainstream luxury brands.
      Have you seen the new ocw p2000?
      Add what do you feel about vintage rolex before the were the monster the are today?
      Yea at first I was worried but 100m is more than enough to snorkel with. And it's casio so I feel like there 100m is really 150m and there 200m is really 300m. They over build everything even cheap watches.

      @@deaversmith2593 CASIO are like HONDA motorcycles, when a single bolt would do, they add another two LML :-P
      I agree, 100m does equal more to 150, maybe 200m??? I see it as an all day watch for all day water activities too, but not for the sea, but with its materials it'll be at home I guess, so maybe that too :))
      Vintage holds more of the history side, as today it's just kids making them, the grandfather's have long gone along with their blood and hair... new modern ways are employed and it's about getting the best out of a company, and more you can make the better you'll become. BOLEX have an incredible market and the followers love the brand more than the watch, think the brand is seen first then you're just excepting the rest regardless... but place it next to something that's of same value which is also luxury will leave you wondering why do we do this??? If your desire is for a luxury watch then it has to be perfect for you... no point spending loads if you're worried to wear it, as the tiniest of marks shaves hundreds off instantly, then another load off to correct it.
      It's not for me, but if a nice vintage BOLEX came up, then I would, maybe just for a few months, who knows, but anything modern from BOLEX just looks like a good replica, and that's an image I don't like, and you don't see a fake OCEANUS S100, as it's too hard to replicate, and you won't be questioned if it's real!
      The OCW-P2000 is a thing of beauty... I've been chatting to someone who is looking at getting this model, they already have the S100... now you've mentioned it, it has kicked me off looking again... I absolutely love it! There's a Pepsi version I've seen also!!!!
      I'm with CASIO, they have been in my life from early on, watches, keyboards, calculators and so on... they don't make themselves more than anything else, they are on their own level... mostly everyone compares a tough watch to a G-Shock and that's enough for me... they have models to suit all occasions and they don't have that snobbery side. I guess if you need a watch to build your confidence and show off to others then you need to buy what works best for you... you see watches are more than time, for some they are a friend, that will carry them through a job interview, it can be their lucky charm at their wedding, or it could save your life... the purpose is what you make it... not what the advert shows!

    I enjoyed this thorough review. Thank you. Your demonstration of the phone app that allows for correct time was a relief. I had wondered if that program here in the US was de-funded, what would one do to set the time precisely?
    I am curious to know your thoughts on just what is the rationale behind JDM releases. Perhaps I am naive, but if a watch was truly intended for a Japanese market, wouldn't something like "TOUGH MVT." be written in the native language?

    • @WatchUP69MrRangeman
      @WatchUP69MrRangeman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey buddy... cheers for your feedback :)
      Some say that app is silly, but if you sync say once every two weeks then it'll keep your watch quite accurate. I hear that these Atomic antennas will be removed, but so far they remain, guess you can say the same for satellites hey??
      That's a really interesting thought about 'TOUGH MVT' and one that could be answered in several ways, with one of them just searching Googles... but I'd like to answer that without that sneak look regardless if I'm wrong.
      It's known that the Japanese are very proud in their industry side, and with that I would guess they also like to have some of their industry made only available to their people. I can imagine it makes it more special that it's only those within Japan that get to own such a privilege.
      Outside of Japan we are looking in and wanting some of that action, so again, it makes it special to have something that wasn't intended. It also means that you're less likely to see another wearing the same watch outside Japan.
      Now for the 'English' part, and with some thinking I have decided this is down to how all CASIO's are printed, just easier as it's already there... would the Japanese prefer English or native text?
      '思考の動き' (TOUGH MOVEMENT)
      'タフMVT' (TOUGH MVT)
      Now, for me this comes across as like what SeaGull watches have on their's, which is a completely different language
      艱難的運動 (TOUGH MOVEMENT)
      So for me using English, it's the world's language especially for aviation, this could also place limits to who buys if written in Japanese... am just thinking, this isn't true, but it could be?
      I don't think it's because of export, as these do sell outside anyway, and there isn't a rule they can't.
      In all honesty, I'd rather the 'TOUGH MVT' wasn't there, it's not needed, but it does show it's not an automatic... that would be worse LML :-P
      Thanks again, and now looking what the real reason is... :-P

    Totally agree. I gave up my OMEGA Speedmaster after 10 years and purchased a CASIO LCW-M100TSE-1AER (very similar to the Oceanus). I am entirely happy. Casio offers much more value for money than the posh Swiss brands. I would never go back to 'automatic mouvement' again. Great review. Thank you.

      Had to search that CASIO, well I don't know everything or do I want too :-P
      I don't wear many automatic watches, and in general Swiss watches don't really make it on the wrist so much... I have a few and they're quartz driven.... just easy with a battery replacement over all that fuss of sending it to a Swiss repair shop within your land, not really Swiss is it for the Swiss prices they charge LML :-P
      I feel many get lost and carried away to what they see is a trend and a must have, but deep down is it really making you want it personally, or is it to show off every year with a posted wrist shot.... nobody looks at your watch unless it's 2mtrs wide and drowned in gold, you can't even spot what it is a meter away :-P
      Great CASIO and yes to being alike to Oceanus :)
      Cheers for the feedback also my friend :))

      Hey buddy, cheers for the compliment :)
      I've only got experience with my OCW-S100, so not the best guy to ask. I do like the P4000 as this has the diver's bezel because it is actually rated as a true Diver's watch... this is also the first Oceanus to be Diver's 200m rated with ios regulations... think that would be the one I'd look for, but it doesn't have an alarm???
      There's a few chronograph versions, not sure if the bezels move?
      Let us know if you find anything of interest... cheers :)

    Some how got one of these second hand in the UK for £330 on Ebay in January. It was basically brand new. Crazy deal for such a nice looking and functional watch. Aside from the "Tough MVT." on the dial, I actually prefer the case shape and bracelet to the T200. Personally I do think the bracelet could be improved a little. A quick adjust clasp would make this thing even better for me. Despite what many have said I wouldn't say it's necessarily that easy to get the bracelet "perfect". I personally have it adjusted so that it is slightly looser when I initially put the watch on and then as my wrist swells up, it reaches the perfect fit. If I actually try and make it perfect then I find it actually becomes too tight.

      @WatchUP69MrRangeman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey buddy... cheers for your comment... that was an excellent price at £330 :))
      I know how you see the Tough MVT too... I'm the same on certain watches where it's just something that isn't needed.. much like AUTOMATIC in caps on the dial... looks like a font from an old washing machine LML :-P
      A micro adjustment for that end of the day adjustment which is much like what some DateJusts have... just gives you 5-10mm that's about right which needs no tools... the clasp I find a nice compact size, so have no thoughts with that side. Bracelets in general have this heat problem, and that's why I wear mostly bracelets in the winter months. Adjust your bracelets after wearing another watch for the day... you should find that sweet spot :)
      I'm really impressed how you got that for £330
      well done I say :))
      Cheers!

      I've had this watch for 2 years now. But like you getting the bracelet to size has been issue, which is why I haven't worn it that much ( & even thought of selling it). Even thought I might be allergic to titanium (!?).
      I was hoping to get it resized for this summer ( I will look into doing this myself..)...past couple if days with high pressure it's been great to be reaquanted with it.
      If you can't afford this Casio I also got a holiday watch , very affordable & titanium - Lorus VX32 GAK0 www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000LCMGKY/ref=cm_sw_r_apa_i_U131EbZ7H2CFN
      Currently out of stock in Amazon , got mine from John Lewis Cheers.

      @@jaysterling26 I did a video on LORUS, I personally like them as a by brand to SEIKO... I've yet to fully review one of them fully which is very rare.
      With regards to the bracelet this uses titanium pins, I've heard this is because threaded titanium can strip either thread, so was the better choice. It's not so difficult to do yourself and being that there are bring that there's half links means you can get it pretty perfect. I adjust the micro links all the way in, then adjust the links, so if you need that little extra then it's easier to adjust the micro side.
      The reason why titanium is chosen in watches is for three reasons, well a forth really, the first is the lightness, as this means it's much more better for your wrist joints for all day wearing... it's stronger than stainless steel... it's less prone to corrosion... and it's for those who suffer with allergies with stainless which contains Iron Alloy, Chromium, Nickel, Silicon, Manganese, Nitrogen and Carbon... as titanium is less corrosive it should have no reactions... but in some cases this can be toxic, but the signs are also quite different too, so worth looking into this and see if you have the following symptoms.
      You really need the bracelet adjusted, if you're near to me I would happily do this :)
      Cheers for you comment!

    Any thoughts about the newer 200 steel version?

    • @WatchUP69MrRangeman
      @WatchUP69MrRangeman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was looking at that, and was thinking OOOOh it has bluetooth... but comparing them together you can see the extra attention in the Titanium version.. but what the question you need to ask, is the titanium version the one I want but is too out of my budget and the stainless is more my price? Then you may have regrets as you'll always feel you have the lesser version???
      For me they're both nice, the stainless doesn't have so much blue, so is more subtle in the looking department... seems more sporty too with that brushed bezel... I like it and the module is pretty much the same... the big difference is the titanium lightness, but if not bothered then the stainless is a nice solid choice. For me there isn't one better than the other, they're just finished differently... just take you time with your choice and really weigh everything up, as the titanium version is a lot of money... also the details, the crown on the stainless is a nut shape that looks like a Royal Oak??? The tiniest of details are usually the most important... just take you time is my best advice :))

    Hi I've bought 2 watches from Japan and not had to pay any duties/taxes, should I expect to pay if I buy the Oceanus as it would be the most expensive, I'm in the UK

    • @WatchUP69MrRangeman

      Hi my friend... You need to chat to the seller and ask if they can not mark up the full price on their customs label ... this is a gift for yourself and if Amazon don't pay their full whack, why should you :-P
      As long as it's signed and tracked it'll be good... and ask if they can post it using DHL.
      I bought mine form Japan and paid ZERO, and the label had $550 on it, so lucky... must've been super busy that week!
      Chat to the seller... as paying import duty on full price plus that stupid handling fee would not make you happy.
      I've not seen any sell here in the UK, so obversely buyers are keeping them to themselves :-P
      Good luck and beat the system!

      Hey buddy... prices haven't gone too crazy, but looking around £550 with the taxes, and if lucky with the seller, they may adjust the customs to show less, but I didn't say that LML :-P
      Worth £500 for sure, mainly because it's made so well, the finish in the hand really makes the difference... makes Swiss watches look rusty and clapped out. There's a few on eBay, so contact them and see what deal you could push for, and if they're willing to send it without adding the total cost... but it's a risk on the insurance side if lost, but then again, have you tried to get compensation from the postal service???
