  • Recovery of an awesome ore bucket from deep in a mine for my museum from a long abandoned mine using ropes and climbing down a very steep ore pass and some cute baby rats.

    I really admire your determination, you will not be beaten, ever! Well done, I would love to come to the museum, but at 75 it’s a bit far to travel.
    I would love you to give us a tour of a working mine so that we can appreciate what busy places they are. But in the meanwhile many thanks for all the videos.
    Is they a way to send you some cash to help with the expenses?

    Frank, i think you need to carry about an army trench shovel. They are collapsible and quite sturdy. It would come handy scraping ways through collapses and tight spaces. The modern ones aren't very heavy. I really hated using them when i was in the Army but where you go i keep seeing opportunities where one would be very useful to have.

    Frank you definitely earned the right to display that awesome bucket ‘Trippy’ in your museum, especially after all that effort to haul it right out of there. It’s excellent that you rescue old mining artefacts. I really enjoyed this episode, so thank you for sharing.

    Just found a pretty neat wood and steel ore bucket in an iron mine the other day. I want to get it out eventually but a big issue is that the only way out is through 6 ft deep water. Might have to get some inner tubes down there in order to float it out

    Lots of work getting that bucket out , more then people realize . By the way...I've watched ALL of your videos , so does that mean I get a beer ? Me being an old coal miner and never knew much about hard rock underground workings before . Find your videos and others so informative, much appreciation for these old time miners and the living conditions these men went through plus the wages they would have got. Crazy and mind boggling to say the least. Thanks for a good watch and all the information . Cheers

    Great ore bucket frank, here in Cornwall UK they are called a kibble, seen a good one in a mine called Bellan in St Just but no way to get it out, also there is a great end tipping wagon on its rails but the false floors are gone behind it so no way out either, I have pictures of both and will post them up when I'm home as currently working up country, absolutely great site Frank, you would have plenty of help and company on your trips if you were here or us there .

    Great bunch of stuff in your museum, and in the other tour through it as well. Being an aging dude, I often think about my kids and the people who will come to steward my own relics and artifacts when I kick the bucket. How will they know what they have? How will they know the significance of a thing they do not recognize as treasure? To them, my stuff is just a bunch of old junk to be thrown out unless somehow I document it, label it and make sure they understand that if they do not value it as I do, others will, and they should pass it on. Do you have any suggestions? Do you log your stuff or label it so people will know its not just a bunch of old stuff?

    • @exploringabandonedmines
      @exploringabandonedmines  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      All good questions, I guess at 56 I don't think I will be kicking the bucket anytime soon. No plans now but I hope to meet a partner that shares an interest in history. Between the money from the videos and the land, farm and the museum someone could live quite well here and not have to work much.

      .....for sinking winzes too, they are usually filled with Cryderman clam shaft muckers, which happened to be invented by Alex Cryderman in the 1950s at Cobalt Ontario, and almost universally used in sinking operations worldwide. There's a few videos on TH-cam showing them in operation filling the shaft sinking buckets, and I can see why shaftmen are the highest paid miners, as this is a very dangerous operation!

    Where are y'all located??? If I ever get to where I can travel again I'd like to come and look it over... My granddad was a coal miner when he was a young man of 15 or 16 I guess as the story goes from the bits and pieces I've heard his dad died and my grandfather was the oldest of 7 kids so the only work was the coal mines... He never talked about it he just said they had to eat and you do what you gots to do.... But he learned how to paint signs and was real good at it so he did both worked the coal mines at night and painted signs during the day time for a few years and soon there was no time to work the mine no more and his sign painting made them a lot more money than the mine paid and that's all he ever said about it... All I really know is he retired as a painter for the public school system in Kenosha Wisconsin....
    Any how my mother was big into the mining history and as a kid we went to a lot of museums in the coal mining in Iowa... Great video thanks for sharing... Be blessed... BBE..

    Those aren't rats and I hope you're not trying to kill them because goofs like us do way more damage

    Hey here's an idea for the owners of this channel why not do some type of raffle maybe a dollar piece and be honest about it and select two or three people to go with you on certain sites I like a certain mine here or there when you're going to go on your trips this way you could find your sight get all kinds of gear for your trips and come out ahead it's just an idea

      The problem is that most of my subscribers don't even live in Canada. Only 11% are actually Canadian. If I was going to raffle something it would be better to do an explosive box then I could sent it anywhere.
