Was lucky to attend the jazz summer school that used to be held at Pimlico school here in London uk 40 years ago now! It was just an amazing time with Ted, Brian Spring and Brian Abrahams for us drummers, all very different cats I think you’ll agree. Interestingly both years Pete Lockett was there as a kit drummer, I didn’t see anything special in him back then really…lol..then he started to learn the tablas and..well…the rest is history! Ted was just so friendly as were all the tutors… he’d bring his full kit and we’d be in class just chatting, maybe 10 of us, while he played according to the general questions and flow of the classes.. heaven!
*_My grandpa was / is a huge fan of The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, I've listened and seen many of their videos here on YT._* *_because of my grandpas recommend and I feel that Ted McKenna was one of the most unrecognised, unsung, gifted drummers ever ..._*
Damn, I never knew we’d lost him. One of my favourite drummers. Saw him in Belfast with Rory in the early 80s. Took Rory’s music into a new dimension and after that was a hard act to follow. RIP Ted.
So great to meet you Ted and Gerry . You were so kind and humble and of course one hell of a drummer . Rory On my Friend till we meet again . God Bless R.I.P
Another underated quiet man of music that has passed away. The soundtrack of my life and those that made it are thinner on the ground. Not replaced by (for the most part) individuals who know the hard road to the top without social media! God bless youn Ted say hi to Alex for me when you meet up xx
OMG This man was the father I never had. May God rest you're beautiful soul my lovely friend. The wrong way to go for a legend. I will always love and respect the love of music because of you Ted!
I was given the gig drumsticks by Ted at the kersal in southend in the 70s. What a highlight for me. I still have them and my happy memories going to every SAAB concert I could. Great days
@@maryreilly5092 I can't get auto correct to work on you tube. It just stopped doing anything. Now I have to look up words if I'm not sure of the spelling. I know it doesn't matter to most people, but I'm old. Things like grammar were important once. I just can't break the habit. Sloppy spelling leads to sloppy thinking. There's enough of that these days.

I just happen to hear the news and couldn't believe it...I was looking up ted to see what he was up too. the last I heard he was going on tour I believe this year 2019...was hoping to see him if he stopped here in Chicago....I was shocked...RIP my friend I loved your drumming and how big your heart was....this really hurts...………...
Thank you Mr McK for helping to keep my act together since 1975. SAHB Live, though not popular with the band as they were ripped off, has seldom been far from my turntable, CD player or audio device. Faultless and always uplifting.
Glaswegians and music....It's just not about the bagpipes.......SAHB : Chris, Zal, Ted and Hugh....AND ALEX, the man in front of it all....Just one amazing part of a lasting memory. The music scene of one city, that will never be anything but a growth process....From the 60's onwards as modern music really kicked in, all of these players, plus hundreds more put Scotland and Glasgow very much in the forefront of music to this day...
I wondered about commenting here as I only met Ted a few times. We saw a Damned gig together and he commented they were as ‘tight as an MFI wardrobe’ 😂😂 he still loved the anarchy of it but he was better than all that, a true perfectionist. I had a meal with him thanks to my friendship with his girlfriend and he told me SAHB stories that’ll never be printed. A gracious man, full of wit and humour. Down to earth and a great human being. Financially shafted all his life (Micheal you cunt, pay your band) but never bitter. Takes a lot to rise above that b.s. but not Ted, he was always on to the next thing. A true artist and sorely missed.
Unbelievable that this lovely man and superb drummer has left us. Over the decades I saw him behind the kit in many bands, and more recently playing with Gerry McAvoy and Marcel Sherpenzeel in the "Band of Friends" here in my home town. After the show he came out to talk to anyone who wanted to talk to him and showed what a great guy he was. RIP Ted, a truly sad loss to the world of music.
Superb showman and never met him but seen him on numerous occasions mainly with band of friends always 4t he was a top bloke and this tribute proves my theory. R. I. P. TED MCKENNA 🥁🥁🥁🥁❤️
Thanks for making this very special video of Ted. It was an amazing privilege to be Ted's bass player in McKenna's Gold. I think he was the best rock drummer in the world. He was my great friend and we had wonderful times together and I learnt so much from him. After the band broke up I became a Christian and Ted saw the change in my life and the peace I had. I sent him a gospel booklet and a book by Maurice Rowlandson which contained the story of my conversion and which also mentioned McKenna's Gold called 'I'm Going to Ask You ….', as well as Christian videos and music tapes. He told me how blessed he was by receiving these things. One day he told me of the special moment in HIS life when he was driving over a bridge in Glasgow listening to 'Place In This World' by Michael W. Smith and 'had a religious experience'. He told me it was very real. The Lord Jesus Christ touched his life in a personal and eternal way. . . . For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Tedhad the foresight to see my potential while we were in a band called Shattered Hearts to put me up for the Womack and Womack gig. I toured with him on that tour for a,good while. He was a perfectionist. May his soul rest in peace.......
I had the great privelege of playing on four albums with Ted and was astounded by how modest and down to earth he was. The first band I ever saw was Tear Gas and then Beggars Opera so to actually play with him was a highlight. Its hard to believe he's gone.
Huge Fan of Alex Harvey (most of my friends go WHO"S That ) and you were one of the reasons I liked the band so much its all starts from the bottom up.also remember seeing you on some old Rory Clips, again amazing drummer amazing band ....didn't know much about you but from all I just read you left your mark and it was all good ..RIP from a fellow Scotsman.... just stay away from Alex he's still crazy ya know
A brilliant and incredibly versatile drummer (probably one of the very few who could cover the massive eclectic mix required by SAHB) By all accounts a lovely fella anout whom no-one had a bad word to say.
Agreed, r, from baldy Rab. Bald and - now - couldn't care/hair less. Heart-felt Love to Ted, Hugh and Alex (and their Beloved Families). These men made/make my life so much better. Stay free. Rab 🍻😎💚
