Rye is doing great where it is! It's what I'm using. My chart of weed controls says Alfalfa and Hairy Vetch work to eliminate pig weed. Vetch is talked about carefully because it can be a weed in the wrong climate so I've steered away from it but I've broadcast alfalfa. I have more broadleaf thistle (not canadian) showing I need a bigger buckwheat program.

A two gallon pump sprayer with a pint of gramoxone is easier than cold blue steel. Work smarter , not harder.
And will also fry to cotton…which I would rather not do
