Become a Black Mamba! Hey~ Just wanted to let you all know that there are currently 5 Black Mamba patreon spots available! The Black Mamba VIP tier includes a 1 hour 1-to-1 session with me every month where we can catch up, chat and share music! You can play me songs via a shared Spotify session and introduce me to new songs and artists Kpop and non Kpop! This way you’ll have the chance to listen to albums with me and that includes albums I haven’t heard (and don’t plan to react to) or albums we both know and love already and we can just vibe out together! Honestly, the Black Mamba sessions I’ve been having so far become the highlight of my month and I’ve gotten to know some of you on a much more personal level as well as discovering new songs! I literally have a playlist full of songs I wouldn’t have heard otherwise! I’ve spent hours chatting about our favourite music, playing music related games, cracking jokes and also having heart to hearts There’s currently only 5 spots available and I’m not sure how long they will be free! Unfortunately all the King Cobra places are still taken up but do keep checking if that’s what you want as a space might open up suddenly! You’ll of course get all the benefits from the Ball Python and Boa constrictor tiers too! (Not king cobra) I no longer offer video calls but a voice call for our first session is an option! Hope I can hang out with some more of you! For all my current Patrons I have some very cool and exciting stuff coming up for you! and for my TH-cam peeps too don’t worry! Love you very much
KARA week?! 😲 The video brought up the lawsuit in 2011 but didn't mention details so I shall provide a bit more context to that. As he mentions KARA made about $15M in Japan in 2010, this was just in physical CD sales alone. At the point they were reportedly only receiving just over $100 a month, and in total they had made about $2k over 3 years of activity. DSP's CEO Lee Hoyeon had fallen ill and his wife had taken over management and apparently had poorly managed the group and severely damaged their trust with the company. One such example was that the company had told the members to sign registration documents to become artists in Japan, but they turned out to be exclusive contracts in Japan. The lawyer also brings up how DSP's Japanese branch takes an additional cut into their earnings, how images of members were being used as models on an shopping site owned and managed by the CEO's family.
i think that's because the video/statement is only inclusive of KARA official members and not baby kara which was more a platform for the hopefuls to join KARA.
haven't finish watching but about Step's achievement, i believe it had a lot to do with the fact that it's their first comeback(if i didn't remember wrongly) after the lawsuit that made big news then but for some reason wasn't mentioned in this video. KARA almost disbanded with at first 4 members filed lawsuit against dsp and then 1 cancelled but there's a period of not knowing what will happen and even the producer they always worked with, Sweetune made statement threatening dsp that they won't make songs for dsp idols anymore if kara disband or until the issue was resolved. which affected another dsp group, Rainbow, that was starting to make name with song from Sweetune. as a result dsp got Rainbow new producer to work with...which fine by me...but it did affect the momentum since A was such a hit. though not enough to get them win...and it remained their biggest hit arguably. btw i love both Rainbow and Kara...i just leaned more towards underdogs(which KARA was too, during their debut but still KARA's vocals was the best during their debut era... Sunghee's vocals was vital and even music wise their debut album was one of my favs from them if not my fav...outdated or not...i loved the nostalgic vibes..at that time sexy concept and arguably cute/girly concept were more popular but KARA brought sth different...i mean before their image revamp. and while their debut might be considered flop they actually promoted 3 songs in music show from their first album - Break It, If U Wanna and Secret World) well looks like i blabbered too much but yeah...just to add info about why Step was important and very much anticipated other than for the song itself. not sure why the lawsuit wasn't mentioned since it was significant but yeah. also, Boa and dbsk were always credited for any kpop idols' successes in Japan(especially those from non big agencies i guess) which ok...but another thing that made KARA especially loved in Japan was that they studied Japanese so hard that they didn't even need interpreter to communicate in Japanese...and that was a big thing since other popular idols advancing to Japan during that time didn't go to such lengths. anyway, sorry for lengthy comment, since it's kara week and i consider myself a KARA fan(though not as active and passionate as when i was young lol) might stick around for other kara contents.
