Mount Evans Scenic Byway! The Beautiful Rocky Mountains Of Colorado!

- Hello everybody! We are still in the process of editing our Sawtooth Mountains hiking video, so in the meantime here's a bonus photo slideshow for you! Last summer in early August we drove the Mount Evans Scenic Byway (now called Mount Blue Sky) all the way to the top, which is 14,130 feet! This is the highest paved road in North America and is only about an hour from the city of Denver. Along the way there are amazing views of the Rocky Mountains, some cool views of Denver and some awesome mountain goats. It snowed on us at the top and then about halfway down we saw thunderstorm clouds starting to form. This highway is actually quite intimidating to drive and is very narrow in some spots with steep drop-offs. It's not for the faint of heart. We thought it was scarier than hiking Angels Landing. Lol! To drive this highway, we had to reserve a time, as it's a timed entry system. This video mostly just shows the views from the top and some views driving back down. What must I do to be saved?

The altitude warning reminded me of all the warning given when climbing to Machu Picchu...didn't get sick, but there was just no catching your breath. My goodness, you sure wouldn't want one of them mountain goats butting one off the edge! Some wonderful views up there! Awesome!!

Right?!?! Pretty cool. You can do the same up to Pikes Peak, which is also a 14er. ❤ You can either drive or take the Cog Railway. We took the Cog Railway years ago, and it was so much fun. 😊

Thank you! Yeah, we didn't have any issues with it up here. When we were hiking Mt. Bierstadt, also a 14er, we had a slight headache, but that was it. Thanks again for watching! 😊
We have not made it up here and it does look a brilliant viewpoint. We have stayed in Denver a few times as the airport is a convenient place to start road trips with some of the best of the west immediately accessible. Snow in August. We thought we were high up at about 12000 feet in the Rocky Mountain National Park but this easily tops that. Will have to give it a go if we get back.
We love the Denver area, too, since the mountains are so easily accessible from there. We hope you make it back here! We love being up high in the mountains. It's almost like you can touch the face of God. ❤ Thank you for watching! 😊

Amazing views- wow, hard to believe you can see Denver! Sounds like the road is very scary… would you go again? The views of the Rocky Mountains are amazing and super cool to drive to such a high elevation. We were at about 10,000 in Utah…the highway was just fine, but some of the nearby logging roads are quite sketchy to get to other hiking points. Whew. 👌🌟🌟 - Jen
Right?! About being able to see Denver. Pretty cool. We might go again, but not anytime soon. 😆 Definitely just need to drive slow. We'd like to hike to the top of this 14er as a dayhike sometime. We hear the mountain goats are pretty much always there. ❤ It is really neat that a person can drive up to 14,000 feet. Pikes Peak has a road up to it, too, but we haven't driven it.
