!! At 5:28 the slide to frame "looseness" shocked me. I have this exact model. In fact, serial number is within 40. I have zero play in mine.
I love the Hemi without all the black controls. I have the LB Gunsite pistol. My only complaint is that the blued finish is rusting, I work in a hot sweaty kitchen so I understand the pistol gets wet a lot. It is not a problem though, I love it & rust can be cleaned off- it is definitely not a safe queen.

I carry a blued LB as well in a very hot/humid environment. Eezox followed by a coat of Renaissance Wax. There's several threads on the 1911 forums about the subject. The Brits have been waxing their blued doubles since the beginning.
I really like that distressed look. Why is it the higher end 1911's use a skeleton hammer but not trigger? Also, how is Sr. feeling?
Hi Joe! I am still getting better at home. I really hope I can get back to work in another week. Not sure who picks the triggers out for the companies, but buyers seem to either like the solid triggers or the skeleton triggers. I am a little different and I like both designs.

As always guys great video! I definitely have to agree that when it comes to 1911s that I'm pretty much done with production guns. The extra money you pay to get a baer, a wilson, a nighthawk, a brown or whatever is well worth every penny for the upgrade in quality and not to mention pride of ownership. There's something to be said about having a real craftsman build your gun as opposed to a robotic machine. Keep up the great work. Can't wait for that usp vid and take care my brothers. Iv'e got the grey coloured Dan Wesson CO2 powered BB gun because i live in the UK and we have a total ban on hand guns semi automatic and revolvers and i love it. The trigger is a little heavy though is it the same for all Dan Wesson's BB guns and real steel versions It's a (RIF) real imitation fire arm so it looks identical to the real steel gun. I also have the Night Hawk full size 1911 (RIF) and the trigger is totally different on that one much nicer and lighter again CO2. Because they look real you have to have a UKARA or some other form of defence certificate to buy.
I recently got rid of my HK45, USP 45, and USP9 Tactical all fine pistols but the plastic double action trigger and EXPENSIVE magazines eventually moved me off of the series of pistols. I have been waiting for the Dan Wesson DWX but now I am considering a Les Baer haha!

I held the DW Wraith 10mm Distressed. Beautiful but $500 higher than this Specialist and out of my price range. I was told the distressed is painted silver and then black and some of the black is rubbed off before heat treatment.

Hey thanks for the reply! I've noticed that the 2020 specialist has some changes that I didn't care for - Rail is different, front slide serrations, slide stop is standard. Found mine on Gunbroker for $1600 new and couldn't pass it up. If it shoots like your distressed commander I'm a happy camper! 😎🤘🇺🇸

I have the duty finish Specialist Commander and she is a hefty gal! This rotates with my Glock 20 as my nightstand gun. Attached is an Olight green laser\flashlight mounted on the rail. This is my second Dan Wesson. I own the 9mm Valkyrie. Both DW's are top notch. I just keep adding them to my collection like you!

I have to tell you that Les Baer was a freaking treat to take to the Range and I cleaned it up a bit before our Range Day, it looked very lightly used (Almost New) after the Clean up and Range Day. The dang thing looked terrific even if it was 8 years old. Yours should be almost twice as good, and New of course. I am very Happy For You!!!! These Top Of The Line 1911’s by Les Baer give Young Beretta and I allot of Pleasure in our everyday lives. We talk Guns all the time and 2 or 3 Les Baers come out at our house every 3 or 4 days for a couple hours as we pass them around and check them out. My Current EDC is a Full-Size Dan Wesson Vigil and that 6 month EDC is up on June 30th, 2020....... I am thinking very Seriously about switching to one of my Les Baer 1911’s as my main Gun off duty. I have the distressed specialist full size 45 and it’s my favorite 1911 that I own. Dead accurate and reliable.
I had the same kind of dilemma. I was looking at one of the new duty coated DW Valors or a Les Baer. My LB Custom Carry should get here this week!
This is a 3 year Adventure that I have been on regarding Dan Wesson and Les Baer 1911’s. I was somewhat disappointed in my very first Les Baer, Not in the way the Les Baer 1911 ran, as it has been nearly flawless for almost 4 years now, but in the Finish and the scratching from an over tight Ambi-safety. I actually thought Dan Wesson made a better 1911 overall at that time. However in the last 12 months I have purchased 3 other Les Baer 1911’s including 2 used Les Baers (The Boss and The 1st Gen Thunder Ranch) These are Better quality than any Dan Wesson 1911 that I own. So that is a Comparison to 7 or 8 Dan Wesson’s. Not by a Huge Amount, but by a Noticeable Amount For Sure! No Question at all..... you can see it when you take a Close Look At This Video! Remember the first 90% of this Dan Wesson Specialist video is Singing The Praises of this Dan Wesson 1911. After all of that and going over the pistol in complete detail, it is quickly compared to two Les Baer pistols that in my opinion blow it completely out of the water. The Dan Wesson’s are Nice, but I think The Les Baers 1911’s win by 3 Touchdowns in this “Football Game” 42 to 21 ....... Les Baer for the Win!!

Yes it is hard to move on from the Excellent Dan Wesson’s, but I am very happy that I was able to make 7 or 8 Quality Videos on these very good 1911 Pistols. I thought this Video was a fitting Video Review tribute to end our Dan Wesson coverage on. There may be another video down the road on a Dan Wesson product, or a CZ pistol in the future, I just don’t know when that will be. We are looking forward to moving on to the Les Baer 1911’s, and HK Handguns and Smith & Wesson revolvers are all coming up in 2020 and 2021. Along with Bul Armory, Sig, Walther, and an AK47 my first. I have a commander in 45acp stainless that is in my edc rotation, picked it up for a steal $1250 brand new. No rust issues on hammer, and still love that gun. Wont ever trade or sell it. If i get anothet 1911, it will be something absurd. Wilson or nighthawk, you will have your work cut out for you to convince me on les baer. I'd rather just save for the best once i get close to 2k+ for a 1911

Great video, as always. But I wonder why one would pick a Commander sized pistol of this weight, and not go for the full Government model instead.
I have to agree, when you're talking close to 2k MSRP, there are better options. However, under $1500, Dan Wesson is hard to beat for quality!
The thing is only 3 or 4 of their 1911’s are under $1,500 these days. Then if you saved that much or you can spend $500 or $600 you can own a Les Baer. Just personal preference and I am not sorry that I started out with 7 Dan Wesson’s because they hold their value pretty good indeed. 🤔👊🤗🥳😎👍🇺🇸

It is pretty Cool, it reminds me of the Nighthawk Thunder Ranch 1911 that we did a video on 2 months ago. It is unbelievably smooth compared to any 1911 on the market. With that comes a MSRP of $3300 and I was able to get it for $2900, just so you have some comparisons in mind. If you can get the Distressed for around $1800 or less, it is a very nice Dan Wesson 1911 and you will be very pleased with your purchase. Hi. I was wondering after watching the review and seeing how you said the head shots hit the neck. I also have two specialists one in 9mm and one in 45. They also shoot low. Is that your experience with the specialists your have shot ? Thanks again. Love the reviews

Great channel for 1911 content! Though if you don't mind me asking, is there any truth to the Colt 1911s not being up to par when it comes to build quality? I always seem to come across about how they've fallen behind on build or it's not as good as it used to be.

The Full-Size Specialist is both of our Favorites!! I sold my PM45 to help pay for my Les Baer Boss and Nighthawk. It turned out not to be my #1 Dan Wesson, but held its value really well and I sold it for $1,300..... The Les Baer Boss was $2,100 so that was an easy decision for me. Take Care Sir! 👊🤗🥳😎👍🇺🇸

I have a Question, If You buy a new Gun, Do you have to put any Lubrication in it before shooting it?
Yes, a light coat of oil on the rails from the slide to the frame, and a little in the feed ramp area. Try that and you should be good to go. Beretta Sr. 🥳😎👍🇺🇸

Echo556 V1 No Revolvers just need a little oil spread around all over the outside of the Gun and then wipe it all off with a Gun Rag. Make sure you clean the cylinder and Clean the inside of the Barrel every 2nd range trip that you practice. This is kind of hard to explain so you need to look up some videos that talk about how to clean a revolver. That should help you a lot. Take care and have a good evening. Beretta Senior.

Love your in depth reviews on 1911's and I've been looking at a lot of them. Even if it's not a question about the Commander you review here, I thought I'd post it here at a more recent vid.
I'm going to buy my first private gun after having worked with Glocks for 20 yrs and I'm convinced I want a 1911 with all the pro's and cons that entails. Manly man's gun and more importantly, Hannibal Smith had one, right! I really like the S&W E-series for the looks and the apparently more reliable external extractor they rock. But the DW Specialist really gets my heart going faster. But yeah. The price tag, right... Now that you had DW's and those E-series for a good long while, would you still reckon a 1911 newbie should go for a DW rather than a S&W E-series considering the price dif? Will they both stand the test of time with equal maintenance?

Both are great, the switch is because we have more Wilson Combat magazines than Tripp cobra mags. - YB
Plus I Received 10 Wilson Magazines for Christmas then before The coronavirus I was able to pick up 10 more magazines from Wilson combat direct while they were on sale. So in all total I have of almost 30 Wilson combat magazines purchased in the last eight months.

Finally went the day after Christmas to shoot my specialist commander after Santa brought the wife a Glock 43x she was begging to go lol! I was only hoping I was as accurate with the DW as I was the Kimber pro tle/rl. The DW was ridiculously accurate and recoiled like a dream. Such a well balanced sweetheart. A life long friend!

I knew allot of folks will understand what we are getting at, and at the same time I want to be very Respectful to the Dan Wesson 1911’s that I still own and that I have recommended so much over the last 3 years. There comes a time when as a Reviewer and as a Firearm aficionado, you have to make the decision to move on to what may be even better. I think I am at that Point in life here. We will have a good time in 2020 and 2021 reviewing Les Baer 1911’s. A nighthawk 1911 or two, and maybe, finally, a Wilson combat 1911 or two. They are great..... I do not care for the older ones, or most of the out of the USA 1911 Pistols. That’s just me, I have tried several and they are gone the next month. I enjoy my Smith&Wesson, Sigs, Desert Eagles, Dan Wesson’s, Les Baers, and my one and only Nighthawk. :)

Not Recommended? My Dan Wessons have been great.
We had a terrible customer service encounter where our larger gun dealer had to get involved to force Dan Wesson to fix a New gun. That’s when I sold half my Dan Wesson collection. Dan Wesson insisted that we must fire a bunch of reloaded ammo threw our guns….. which is not true at all, as all of our Subscribers even know we only fire factory ammo. Poor customer service, hopefully they are much better in 2023.
We have not purchased a New Dan Wesson in 4 years or more because of it. Just done. Wilson Combat has been the best in our 12 years of doing the Channel. That’s our experience.

I'm sorry but I cannot see the worth of this handgun or any other that isn't custom made. Way way over priced for a production handgun, to many other reasonable options out there.

Fyi i do not like distressed finishes on any gun. It costs a premium. If you want a distressed finish on your gun just carry the fuckin thing

You might make me a believer in the Specialist Distressed Commander 1911 vs. the CBOB since it has a rail and the extra weight looked apparent in less muzzle flip for that size. Would not have to be concerned with potential scratching that you might have with a the more polished finished on the CBOB. Nice Wilson magazines. Fitting of the gun depend on gunsmiths even for the production one. I like my with littlest play as possible for 1911, I have to inspect its play in person before I buy. It seem to me thought that sig 1911 fitting are better than series 226 or 229 majority of the time that I have seen at gun shops.
I knew you guys would come around. LB & H&K, oh yeah. 😜 DW’s are nice, but Les Baer is HOF worthy imho in 1911s. My Premier II 1.5 is an amazing shooter. The Usp45t/usp45 is absolutely bombproof & just a beast mode tank. Watch out, HK is addictive. Glad to hear Sr is feeling better! Best wishes.

Icarryone It is more of the way they did the Finish like they did on my Nighthawk Thunder Ranch 1911..... The finish is very smooth and perfect with o imperfections or real marks in the finish of the handgun itself. 🤔🤗😎👊🥳👍🇺🇸

Well, I’m glad that you’ve found what you like but for my money, I’ll hang on to my $1600 Dan Wesson two-tone V-Bob. The $700 difference allowed me to buy several Wilson Combat magazines and ammunition. The custom models do provide better finer details, smoother corners, less sharp edges, etc., but that’s not the most important for me. Fortunately, the Dan Wesson shoots well and offers a great value for the amount of money it will cost you. Enjoy the range and the start of a new collection.

I believe that it will look plenty distressed the longer you carry it. I know some of mine look like I found them on Omaha Beach.
