Drose will always be my favorite basketball player of all time he is the reason basketball is my favorite sport and the fact he is from Chicago meant a lot to me being a kid growing up in late 2000s and early 2010s when he was dominating nba he was my era version of MJ as bulls fan
If Derrick Rose had never gotten hurt, he could have gone down as the best point guard ever. His trajectory in his first three seasons was unprecedented. Rose improved in nearly every facet of his game each year, going from Rookie of the Year in 2009 to the youngest MVP in NBA history by 2011. By his third season, he averaged 25 points, 7.7 assists, and nearly 4 rebounds per game while leading the Bulls to 62 wins and the best record in the league. His game was dynamic-he could finish at the rim with both power and finesse, had an arsenal of floaters and acrobatic layups, and could create his own shot whenever needed. His improvement in shooting was also evident, as he raised his 3-point percentage from a poor 22% as a rookie to nearly 33% by his MVP season. It was clear that with his insane work ethic, he was only going to get better. Rose's post-injury career actually adds to the argument. After tearing his ACL in 2012, he lost much of his signature explosiveness and quick first step. He also spent a large part of the next few years rehabbing instead of focusing on skill development. Despite this, Rose adapted his game and became a much more complete player. With the Timberwolves, Pistons, and Knicks, he reinvented himself as a lethal scorer, showcasing an improved 3-point shot, better change of pace, and superior decision-making. In 2018-19, with the Timberwolves, he shot a career-high 37% from three, proving that even without his trademark athleticism, he could still be a bucket. If Rose had never gotten injured, we can project that his shooting would have developed even earlier, allowing him to be more dangerous both on and off the ball. His assist numbers would have likely risen as well, given that he was already making strides in his playmaking and basketball IQ each season before his injury. Imagine prime Rose playing in today’s pace-and-space era, where the floor is more spread, and defenses have less room to collapse on drivers. He would have been an unstoppable force, averaging 30 points and 10 assists a game while leading his teams to championship contention year after year. Additionally, Rose never had a true star teammate in his early years. If healthy, he would have had a peak partnership with Jimmy Butler, forming one of the best backcourts in the league. Their combination of scoring, defense, and leadership could have resulted in multiple deep playoff runs and possibly championships. Comparatively, other all-time great point guards like Magic Johnson, Stephen Curry, and Chris Paul had the luxury of a more gradual development or being surrounded by more talent. Rose was the clear leader of his team from Day 1 and managed to elevate his team to the top of the league despite less help. With his unique combination of scoring, passing, athleticism, and the sheer will to improve, a healthy Rose would have had the potential to surpass all other point guards in NBA history.
D Rose cooked every guard he played against before injury. No one was close. Steve nash, kyrie, tony parker, to name a few. They were scared to guard him. They lucky he got injured because if he didn't it was CURTAINS for all of them. Wayde, Kobe none of them wanted the smoke. Thank you D Rose for blessing us with 16 yrs of outstanding basketball entertainment. Because that's what these players are nothing more nothing less.
Need that 2011-2012 season asap. That killer was finishing games in the 1 quarter. If healthy I believe he win mvp again in 2012. The game against Detroit, he had probably one his best dunks at the end the game if anybody remember like this.
2:01:54 CP3 tried Drose but Rose athleticism is so superior it even shows on in his defense. By 2012 Derrick Rose arguably top 3-5 player in the league only behind LeBron, Dwight, Kobe, KD.
HELL NO! He’s not better than Steph and DEFINITELY not in the goat conversation. He was a good player and would have went down in maybe the top 15 but NEVER in the goat conversation.
2011 MVP D. Rose was the start of the Point Guard Era, where Point Guards are evolving at becoming scorers in and out. Steph, Russ, Kyrie, Dame, Wall, Kemba and Ja became the results of his roots (though Steph created his own path with 3PT shooting, but back then, he's a pass-first PG).
I think the Bulls’ management and the ownership ruined DR. Rose was an attacker, someone who attacked the basket relentlessly fueled by his athleticism but as the management skimped on paying people, he lost shooters around him to create space…which made his body-twisting attack dangerous when he landed. It doesn’t help that his coach Thibs was known for running his starters to the ground. As much as I hate that Rose lost a lot of his athleticism to injuries...at least he could come back. Penny Hardaway never could return from his knee issues.
I truly believe D Rose is the greatest PG talent ever , and if he never kept getting hurt he wouldve proved it longer. Coldest PG ever 3rd coldest guard ever after Jordan and Kobe.
@@TiagoGomez-hb9te because he is elevated to a god of the clutch. LeBron gets crucified for it, Kobe never did. Jordan is the only far above both in the clutch

@elitheinvader ,even before he got injured, he couldn't win anything other than that one fluke mvp, (LeBron deserved it more anyways) and he was never going to win a chip. Was never gonna beat Boston or LeBron ( Cavs or Heat) in a 7 game series. 🤣

His playmaking didn't get enough credit back then, he was a true point guard that drew in the defense so well & then found the open man with ease
He moved so quick and agile that he draw ALL the attention and created good looks for his teammates because he literally stressed out these defenders.
