- The Foundation Series by Isaac Asimov is a monument of Science-Fiction. For tonight's story, I retell you the first novel published, "Foundation". We will discover why the Galactic Empire, that has ruled the galaxy for 12,000 years from its capital Trantor, is predicted to fall in just 300 years by Hari Seldon, the inventor of Psychohistory. Exiled from Trantor for believing in this theory and sent to Terminus, a planet lost at the periphery of the galaxy, a group of pioneers will lay the basis of the Foundation. But will the Foundation survive the threat of its bigger neighbours? What is its true purpose? In a constantly evolving world dominated by politics, technology, religion or trade, will the Foundation find its way and become what it is destined to be?

This is my favorite science fiction series. My dad gave me all 7 of his books years ago. They are so easy to understand. The tv series is one of my very favorites too even though it's different. I'm really hoping there will be a 3rd season. But having you reading about Foundation is just wonderful. I hope many more people will read these. 💜

i really only ever listened to French, but at one point thought i might be interested in other AMSR channels. i was shocked by the quality and attention to detail that other youtube’s just completely lack. snorting, sniffing, swallowing, hitting the mic accidentally. things they did without a thought, i never even considered possible because French would NEEEEEVER not edit that stuff out. 😊😊😊 i’ve been stuck here since!
i always learn something new from your content and i am actually PAINFULLY dependent on it to sleep. last night i didn’t have my airpods nearby and though i’d try to skip it, i was up till 2 am mind racing thoughts bouncing around like ping pong balls till i finally drifted off. 😢 once you go a few nights without that struggle, it becomes very hard to go back to dealing with it. i’m lucky i always have access to the content and i have videos downloaded here and on apple music if i’m ever without reception too! it’s just insane how much this man had helped me to be able to live a normal life and give my brain permission to go off.

Pretty much what I was thinking. Obviously it’s good that you can use asmr videos to help fall asleep but it’s so dramatic to say that these videos give your brain ‘permission’ to fall asleep. There’s a way bigger issue going on inside your head besides access to asmr videos…
If I don't asmr to sleep I sleep about 40% worse, unless I am EXHAUSTED to start. I've been like this for more than a decade. We're in the same boat!
I was introduced to sci-fi through Isaac Asimov , voted best series ever written and best short story "Nightfall" , Hugo awards , Grand Master and the list goes on & on but it was his drive , passion & love for his craft that made him stand out to me. I Will never forget finding "The Winds of Change" that turned my head & heart towards sci-fi & the community that welcomes you like no other. Looking forward to it. Read the books. Haven’t seen the show, but plan to eventually. I was always amazed that Asimov wrote this when he was around 20
I found the show entertaining and sometimes even gripping, but it is loosely based on the books. I think they were right to go in that direction and add a lot of things that were not in the novels, but the purists who would want to watch the exact same story, characters and themes put on screen can easily be horrified 😬

I really can't thank you enough for your channel. I have a chest infection at the moment and trying to lie down to sleep is when my breathing gets worst. It's so hard to relax but your channel does it so reliably, especially this video as it's a narrative so I get lost in the story. I've returned to where I last fell asleep 3 times now, and I still don't know how the story ends, so clearly it works!
"spaceships and I'm happy" I understand this all too well, and subsequently wish there were more shows with them. For me it tends to be machines in general, such as all the war machines in Warhammer 40k. A man can dream haha

the idea that individuals do not really make history in the long run, but the society as a whole and pressures and tensions of nature and where society finds itself drives it, is so intriguing - never thought about it that way when i read Asimov in the ‘60’s. i think that’s happening now and we can see it. do have a great day. 🌷🌱

I have enjoyed the show as well, despite some of the silly changes. One of the aspects of the novel that I’ve always found somewhat off putting was the fact that the characters were really just incidental. I love the overall story despite this, but it did make some of the character changes less irritating because the novels were so scant on the character development. The quality of the writing is surprisingly good, in today’s entertainment continuum, as well. And the acting is quite decent. But overall I agree that give me spaceships and alien civilizations and I’m happy.
I also agree that the end of season two was…questionable. At best.

I'm also a huge fan of both the books and the Apple series, and the "give me spaceships and I'm happy" comment is a perfect description of me too! One thing I find a little concerning is that they felt they had to call the TV series Foundation, when it differs so much. As our narrator mentions, Foundation has influenced sci-fi deeply, and many individual works and series owe a great debt to it. But the Apple series is almost as different as a Star Wars, so why do we need the name Foundation at all? I mean changing the genders of main characters and love interests with Sheldon's kid? Why not just give them different names and change things like The Orville does to avoid the lawyers?
Or are we now so beholden to brands that we can't even appreciate a good story if it isn't first a product??? Would nobody watch it otherwise?

LOL, you sound like my brother in law - give him spaceships he's happy - Discovery and Picard - he loves them because Spaceships, and can't understand why I loathe them with the hatred of a thousand suns - I kinda envy him TBH, but for me I quickly lose my suspension of disbelief if the writing sucks, no matter how good the effects are. I think I'll stick with the novels and avoid the TV series - if for no other reason I don't want to give Apple any of my money, and indeed would probably be outraged at the changes, and wherever they dumbed it down.
