@@bad-people6510 I wouldn't even change it the thing is compared to all thr other star trecks on TV this Is one we would all watch most likely regardless if they hired him and didn't change anything
LOVED the retro style. The eyes look exactly the same as the 70s animation, and I lost it when Riker leaned forward, brought his fists up before running because that's also exactly how it was done before. Awesome work!! Hope they don't get thier lawyers to harass you for making this love letter to their copywrited images.
1:46 That type of wide overhead shot was actually done in ST:TNG in the episode "Skin of Evil" to add drama at the end of the pre-credits. I can't recall it ever being done again, though. Might be the only time they ever did it.
Days later I'm still not over the mind blowing effect that animation has on me. It's the crew I grew up with in the 70's second run style from the already legendary crew before with one of the iconic sequences... My mind is almost unable to quantify how amazing that is. I wish there'd be a way to get more from that but I understand that that's a tough thing to do on a bigger scale. All that said; excellent job!
Yay! I remember Adobe ANIMATE! It had a wonderful way of making smooth motion called *_Deferred Delta frames_* that I never saw again for 20 years until Premiere introduced 'motion flow pixel interpolation'.
One of the things I loved about the 70's animated series was that they had characters and settings that would have been prohibitively expensive in live action. I thought making one of the bridge officers into an alien was one of the most cleverly authentic parts of your tribute!
Your project could not be more spot on with the Filmation style. Weird framing, the strange color palate, the music. Childhood memories came flooding back. Absolutely love it
I immediately noticed the Schmutz on the "Animation Cells" as the star ships did their fly-bys, it was EXACTLY like the Filmation Star Trek TAS. You did an exceptional job in recreating the animation and the background work.
When I first saw it I realized that you actually used some of the original score and then some of the new series score if I'm not mistaken. The blend of musics really helped capture that mixture of time.
Oooo not just Wil Wheaton. I love that ending clip. Nice to see Pulaski & The TNG uniforms before Evolution. God I miss this Star Trek. Thank you for this. We may be getting seasons and new series of the new "Star Trek" but the 3 minutes you just gave us brought tears to our eyes.
Oh I see her now. But isn't that Beverly sitting at the end with the red hair? I don't think they were on the ship at the same time or is my memory failing?
@@billkeithchannel no they werent but i love these little mess ups that Justin did from reference of TAS goofs. In reality Beverly's actress Gates was actually fired from S2 which is why Pulaski entered the picture. Sadly we just never got both of em on the same screen afterwards.
Outstanding job, it fits in with TAS perfectly. I really like some decisions you made like having the Borg ship be purple instead of grey since that is what happened on TAS - you didn't just emulate the style, you made decisions that would have happened back then too that most people probably don't even realize.
Lifelong Star Trek fan,, including TAS...you not only managed to recreate the animation style, you also recreated a happier time as well...if only for a few moments. Well done, Justin!
As someone who remembers ToS when it was originally on TV (the only episode I actually remember is "Devil In The Dark"), and someone who watched the whole TaS all of the way through, I very much appreciate your work.
The eyes of Picard and Chacotay when the zoom in happens look just like Kirk's from the animated series. I really was impressed by the two Trek animations. I hope more are to come. Such fun.
As a fan of Star Trek: TNG and a kid who watched Star Trek: The Animated Series when it came out on Saturday morning cartoons in the 1970s, I enjoyed that love letter Gazelle Automations scribbled up. 👍
I'm more impressed that for your puppet show you made a miniaturized version of "that sci-fi prop" that's been in just about every Sci-Fi show that's come out in the last 50 years.
I'm happy to know that i am not the only one that LOVED the animated series score. It always made it feel like i was watching a show that was catering to an older audience.
A friend of mine sent me this a few days ago, and I've rewatched it several times every day since. I just like this! I really loved The Animated Series, and this video fits in so perfectly with TAS, it's just a masterpiece. I'm hoping (knowing that editing these must take forever) that there will be a part 2 with the Battle of Wold 359, I think that would be so much fun to see. But in the meantime, thank you so much for this fantastic video! :D
I had only just watched the TrekCulture interview minutes before the release of this video. Great work that embodies that era of Filmation's animation style, imperfections and all.
Hah! I love at 3:58 you have that thing with the lights that go back and forth! I remember it from Airplane 2... Did they ever figure out why the lights go back and forth?
JUSTIN!: Filmation should PAY you for this. This is as good as anything they ever paid for. It really is a love letter to TAS & TNG. This is SO much better than ANYTHING after 1991 it is not even funny.
Terrific. Right down to the character reaction shots and the oddly delayed beats. The Riker bit, coming forward, was perfect. I remember that Filmation used that template on TAS as well as the earlier Batman/Superman hour. Yes, a perfect love letter. Thanks!
For real, when I first watched it, I wondered when this had originally aired and why had I missed it? Top shelf job. A credit to you. And with this behind the scenes peek, you outdid yourself.
What a great job. This truly captured the spirit of the Filmation shows I grew up watching in the 70/80s. Hopefully, we a full length episode, or a cut down one from an original. One day hopefully.
I'm watching my weekly TrekCulture video, and to my surprise I see you and say to myself, "Hey! I know that guy!!!!" Congrats on your animated TNG episode. It's so good. Hat's off to you for having the patience to execute it how you did. It certainly paid off! I tip my cap good sir.
The turbo lift door wasn't necessarily a goof--there were only so many cel layers they could have until the paint color started changing or the cel started getting darker because of the acetate transparency, or lack there of. Since in certain scenes the lift door was meant to move the lift door would be on its own cell. This is why occasionally you see a missing torso or creepily a mouth on Sulu! It wasn't a mistake but a sacrifice the animators made and hoped that it would be not that noticeable. You can see this a lot int he classroom scenes of another contemporary cartoon - Fat Albert. If the production schedule wasn't so break neck speed odds are they would have made different cel and backgrounds but time was a luxury they didn't have!
@@syrenasketches6902 Storyboard artist Bob Kline said “I’m not sure. But, smoking was certainly allowed in most areas of the studio. I was a smoker then, and I don't remember any restrictions being posted.” BUT they were also very careful because acetate is basically statically charged so everything sticks to it and the studio is in the San Fernando Valley.
