- The UN's annual climate conference has begun, with world leaders from around 200 nations due to appear over the next two weeks.
COP29 is being held in Baku, the capital of oil-producing nation Azerbaijan.
The assembled delegate will discuss ways to limit and prepare for future climate change.
A particular focus will be how countries plan to limit long-term global temperature rises to 1.5C - a target set by the Paris Agreement in 2015.

Because not everybody can participate in a zoom conference at the same time due to vast differences in time zones! To be a truly global event it needs to happen in person.

The only really meaningful action is the installation of 700 GW of solar panels this year, up from 400 GW during last year. That is done for financial reasons, the only real motivator getting anything done. This kind of meeting use worse than useless in comparison.

Sometimes it can provide if the sun shines of the wind blows (Here in UK we have had three weeks with neither) much of the total demand but the fossil fuel power stations must be kept on standby negating much of the advantage and need subsidies for when they are unable to sell to the grid but must keep working. Electricity is in any case only about 20% of total energy needs. A total farce. The result is highest energy costs ever in developed world when we were told it would be so cheap that it would be almost free.

These conferences wont do anything, changing to renewable is impossible, only path that might be feasible is CCS (Carbon Capture System). CCS at this point is highly inefficient amd expensive af but investing in development of this tech can change this
A band aid it won’t fix the source of the problem which is drastic reduction in global emissions. What we need is Nuclear, solar, hydro and wind power in collaboration.

Gas is the most successful method of reducing emissions while keeping the lights on. For electricity generation gas has 50% less emissions per unit of electricity than coal.
Both the UK and USA have successfully reduced emissions by making the switch. The USA by using gas produced by hydraulic fracturing.

To deny that fact IS to admit you do not understand science. So do you deny it. has the climate always been changing, yes or no?
The topic which you should be addressing is, HOW MUCH change is specificity caused by humanity. to which there is no answers at all. the estimates range from virtually nothing. to the absolute extremes.
And since there is no specific number on what is actually caused by humans, then it is a problem that will be impossible to fix. since you can not create a solution for a problem that you know not what the cause is.
