Good job done Tom and I'm glad you didn't have to unsolder that can to get to the Q1. Worse thing would be to replace the transistor and still have the same problem. A good ole signal generator would have also told you that is was in the audio stages or output. The radio was probably sitting around on a shelf and the phono jack became corroded. Contact cleaner for them old radios and electronic equipment comes in handy :) Thanks!
I really do need a good signal generator. I went to a little hamfest this morning and only found a few junk ones. I guess I could see if my luck holds out and try Ebay. LOL
Hey Tom I have yet to watch this latest video but thought I would tell you band conditions are good here at the moment and am listening to the mighty KBC on 9925 via the Tecsun PL-880 :) Off to watch the video now and give it a thumbs up for finding the problem :)
Ah! My first piece there! Great memories!👍😀 I still have it, looks and sounds like the day it was made. Good video.👏👏👏
I have seen good reviews of this radio, so I wanted to try one. Testing videos coming soon.
Thanks for the report.

How the H--L do you remove the cabinet from a Radio Shack DX-100?
Just a couple of screws held mine together.
Glad you didn't have to go opening that RF shielded can only to find the issue lay somewhere else :)
I don't think I would have done that. I am to impatience.
hamrad88 We can all be a little impatient :)
Hmmm good for you, I wish my FRG-7 had that easy of a fix
I got lucky
You never know until you have a crack at it... obviously don't perform anything you don't feel comfortable/confident pursuing :)
