Sadly, I don't know the name of the fabric and bought it in a small store. But it's a two layered fabric with minimal stretch, and I think it's made for furniture. It's also very soft, and about 2-3mm thick Hope this answers your questions.
I just found and am curious if anyone has replaced the cardboard with thin plywood maybe, would give more strength and structure but not sure if it would work.

We absolutely think it would work. But in this case, my guess is the thinner plywood the better. Good luck!
