Jr. Pac-Man Plus (Fan-Made Hack)

- This is a fan made hack of Jr. Pac-Man that adds the Plus mechanics from Pac-Man Plus to Jr. Pac-Man. You can find it on Pac-Scribbles' Twitter page. Since I covered hacks for Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man, I figured I'd cover one for Jr. Pac-Man.

I like how the bonus items are based on the unused bonus item sprites in Jr. Pac-Man (the cowboy hat, the skateboard, and the pogo stick) and Pac-Jr., the unlockable game in the Genesis version of Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures (the baseball, and the sneaker)
The Pepsi can is also a nice callback to the Coke can from Plus, but I honestly have no clue why one of them is a bug.
The bug bonus item is from Gaplus, the third game in the Galaga / Galaxian lineage.
It's a reference to the links between the Galaxian games and the Pac-Man games.
Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, and Jr. Pac-Man are the first, second, and third in a trilogy. (I consider Pac-Man, Super Pac-Man, and Pac & Pal as a separate trilogy)
Galaxian, Galaga, and Gaplus are the first, second, and third in their own trilogy. (Heck, Gaplus even has a conversion kit to turn its name into "Galaga 3" in an attempt to make money during the video game crash.)
Pac-Man has a Galaxian as a bonus item, Ms. Pac-Man was re-released in Arcades as a double feature with Galaga, and here, Jr. Pac-Plus continues the tradition of references to their space game parallels by putting the bug from Gaplus's bonus stages into Jr. Pac-Man as a bonus item.
7:15 I wouldn't call that a mistake, I would call that trying to outsmart the ghosts but they cornered you anyway. That's what I like about Jr Pac Man, is that there's so much room to move around and you can get really strategic at tricking the ghosts

Honestly for the Pac Man Plus games, I wouldn't really count on trying to get the ghosts because of the whole thing about one of them being unaffected.

What a great implementation of Plus mechanics! Where can I get this? I couldn’t get it to work with MAME on any operating system! Edit: with the discontinued MAME OS X, which doesn’t run beyond Mojave, place into ROMs folder, audit them, look for Jr. Pac-Man on Pengo Hardware (which might not show up if GOOD is selected), click on it, and you’re good-to-go! Peace.

4:55 Aren’t the pellets supposed to disappear as well?
See, Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man have disappearing dots because they're stationery mazes.
If you try to apply that to a SCROLLING maze, that's just gonna make the game unplayable.
@@CosmicToons well that makes this better than Pac-Man Plus & Ms. Pac-Man Plus combined, cause the dots not disappearing here make this so much easier to play than the other two.
@@CosmicToonsProbably because the games work differently in terms of the levels. Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man have the dots on the tile layer, while Jr. Pac-Man has them on the sprite layer. The invisibility effect only hides the tile layer and not the sprite layer.
Looks like the fruit don’t blow up the power pellets in this one? Could be a glitch though like in the original.
The fruit can blow up the energizers in this version as well.
The fruit won't blow up any energizer it lands on - when it spawns, it actually picks a specific energizer to target.
It'll always go for one in the four corners before it targets the middle two. It also won't blow up your last energizer if you only have one left.
In this instance the fruit targeted the energizer in the bottom left and happened to walk over another on its way there.

I like junior Pac man
I would go crazy trying to play this game! I am an avid Pac Man player, but Jr. Pac Man is the hardest for me! On regular Jr. Pac Man, I have never made it to the boards where the ghosts don't change to blue, but on Pac Man, Ms. Pac Man, Pac Man Plus and Super Pac Man, that is a regular occurrence. If I were to play this Jr. Pac Man with Pac Man Plus behavior, I'd lose my mind!

Unlike normal Pac Man Plus though it doesn't make the dots disappear. So that seems like a mistake
It might have been a choice so that you can still where you are within the maze.
Since the maze scrolls they might have thought it'd be unfairly hard to hide *everything*
Since the maze scrolls due to it being larger than the screen can fit, hiding the dots would make this game virtually unplayable.
