Hands down most under-rated band of all time. They have so many good coming of age tracks. Put this song on at 2am in the morning driving along the highway with the roof down on a balmy night. It will cure anything. Period.
THE VIRGIN TONGUES backstory: In 2006, Duncan McKnight and Nima Ashe decided to move from Los Angeles, California to Berlin, Germany. There they met Robert Michael Giddens and began playing shows under the name Duncan McKnight band, building a decent fanbase and working with a psychedelic rock label in Berlin called Trip in Time records. The trio later decided on the name The Virgin Tongues and kept playing shows, eventually opening for The Kills in Berlin. Then, on May 1st, 2009 while on tour to Reykjavik Iceland (and to record their debut album with Singapore Sling frontman Henrik Bjornsson), McKnight fell from a window in downtown Reykjavik, suffering serious injuries and spent 9 months in hospital learning how to walk and talk. Despite valiant efforts, The Virgin Tongues did not play together again, and only a few recordings remain from those days. The past quickly becomes a distant dream, but the music remains alive forever.
On a grey winter Saturday in Neukolln, 2009 the Virgin Tongues recorded their only ever studio take of this their most notable underground hit: "Six Feet Underground". Recorded in one take as the neighbors banged at the door and the building shook to the sheer volume of the band, the sound and performance capture the Tongues in a unique and authentic light. Produced by Mark Hinterhof, this recording lay in his forgotten archives until now. But the first version (non studio) was officially released the 22 May 2007 on 8MM Compilation "Shots".
Wow having known Duncan for a better part of my life well since late childhood/early adolescence, I am quite impressed with this track. Top of my favorites of his solo and band endeavors, definitely felt a bit of awe, admiration and a tinge of good ol' green eyed jealousy... I mean can you blame me? If i could write half as well... Anywasy good show +
This song is like sneaking out with your friends or lover at night and rolling up the car hood and standing up and feeling fucking alive and invincible
There's no place to go in this town and you don't answer the phone, I still want to drown all these feelings you left, 'cause I'm six feet underground, all these feelings you left, 'cause I'm six feet underground. I still can't be bound in my hotel by the beach, she's so out of reach, so many things to do. Things to do before we die, so many things to do, things to do before we die...
i m not sure, but that's what i understand... here you are..its a beautiful song! theres no place to go in this town and you dont anser the phone i still want to drown all that feelings you had cause im 6 feet underground all theses feelings you had cause im 6 feet underground i still can't be found in my hotel (?????) she's so out of reach, so many things to do things to do before we die, so many things to do before we die things to do before we die
Totally not, spacemen 3, spiritualized ans mbv are great bands but have a different sound. I would try those a records and keep music evil bands like asteroid no 4 or those Matt Hollywood projects like the out crowd and i think he has now a new band.
Actually this band is not as old as it seems. When I first heard The Virgin Tongues I thought I was listening to something from the 60s/70s. I didn't realize I was listening to a band so current. I guess most of people hearing VT for the 1st time have the same feeling like I did. They began sth around 2006.
They sound a little like Hot Fuss-era Killers. If not, they sound like any Velvet Underground influenced band of the 60s/70s, not exactly unique. Not saying they're bad, but not unique.
