If Magnus has the centre, it’s the most important thing.
If Magnus has the extra pawn, then it’s the most important thing.

For those who ask what happens at 4:50 if the black queen takes the bishop with Qc6: it stops guarding d4 and e5, allowing Qe5+ (or Qd4+), and all the outcomes are bad.
-> If the pawns on f7 blocks with f6, Qf6+ follows and the queen cannot be taken (the white knight is guarding, and the white pawn in e6 blocks the black queen), so the black king must move and all three legal moves Kf8, Kg8 and Kh7 lead to Qf7# mate
-> Kf8 leads to Qxh8+ followed by Ke7 (only legal move) and Qxb8; winning both black rooks. or maybe Rd7+ after Ke7 is better, there might be a forced mate in there, I'm just a human who'll happily pick up the rooks and take it from there :)
-> Kg8 or Kh7 leads to Nf6+, if the king goes back to g7 with Kg7 then Ne8+ double check (Nh5+ double check is probably also an option), Kg8 or Kh7 is mate in 1 with Qg7# (now guarded by the knight) so the best the black king can do is Kf8 which leads to Qxh8+, Ke7, and I guess exf7 guarding the knight and getting ready to queen. Or if the Nh5+ option is chosen, white can pick up both black rooks as in the line above but black can pick up the knight on h5 or the pawn in e6. Stockfish probably has a strong opinion and might see some forced mates there, I'm just happy to be way up in material.
And no way am I seeing all this in less than 20 minutes, and only because 2 GMs have already told me it wasn't an option :)

In the Kg8 Nf6+ Kf8 line you cant take on h8 because the knight blocks the queen but you have e7+ forcing Kg7 and after Ne8 double check you have Qg7 or Qxg8 mate# but great analysis otherwise

Basically yes, Qe5. Plug the position into an engine. It's pretty hard for a non GM like us to calculate on the fly like that, and for our level taking the bishop would probably be fine.
For GMs and computers though they see they after the next few checks, best case scenario black gets their queen trapped and taken, worst case scenario they blunder mate.

Maybe Magnus saw that he could do this but he didn't like the posision in which his pieces would be after that sequence of moves and thats why he prefered to do something different.

I completely agree with Magnus analysis. Having the center is important, but what made black lose the game is the fact that his plan did not make sense.
He wasted a lot of time maneuvering the knights to the queenside to push his pawn majority. It's clear that white's lead in development in the kingside, added to the fact that the black king is there, would give white a much faster attack.
