Glad you enjoyed, thanks! The bass drum feel is most important to get. Being more of a "jazz samba" not a traditional one, I like artists like Eliane Elias So Far So Close record (Peter Erskine on drums!)
The samba is such a cool groove, as you say, the first step to getting it to groove nicely, is getting the kick right, which you do here, enjoyed this, cheers.
Excellent demonstration and explanation. Would be perfect if there was also a transcription but I understand that time and resources don't always allow for being comprehensive.
Man the first rhythm that you show has a small detail that makes it very wrong: the 5th hit on that clave is earlier than it should be; that clave is cuban, not Brazilian, if you play it 1 16th note later, you'll fix it, very simple but very very important
Actually, when we talking about samba rhythm, most likely that we wouldn’t use Afro Cuban clave to it. This would be wrong thing. Afro Cuban clave never employs into Brazilian music, as they are completely different categories. Bossa nova , Partido Alto and samba don’t use Afro Cuban clave.
Yes, fantastic video! If you could just put the notation at the end, that would be super helpful. As soon as I tried to add the left hand, I couldn't quite work out by listening exactly how to line it up with the other hand and feet. :D I'm kind of a beginner drummer, but I feel like I could learn this if I could slow - it - right - down :) And it sounds so great, I really want to learn it!
Scusa, ma non è samba! Il samba é in 2/4, non 4/4. Nel samba, non c'è la clave di son e i sedicesimi sul piatto, sono suonati: tatata and, tatata and, tatata and, etc...
Thanks for the comment and I get it but as I mentioned this is a jazz samba type groove no intention to be “legit” more combo/big band type groove. Appreciate your comment and checking it out
What I am going to suggest is that you should lern the patern the way it really is and then show it to people because what you playing is something similar but not the real thing !!
@@dereksenestraro I think what Humberto means is that the claves pattern is not samba but mambo. Although it's still a cool groove and an excellent explanation and performance.
Envy you so much!!! Great video!! We can feel your deep love to music. Love to hear you drumming. Thanks!!!
Thanks!! Appreciate the kind words.
That’s sounds so cool.specially on a Ludwig down beat from the 60’s.
Suoerb
A great refresher for me as i tend to only doing rock and pop.
Kit’s beautiful but what makes it shine are grooves coming out from those.
Great explanation. I have been having problems playing samba cleanly. Good video i will keep practicing.

To want to feel comfortable playing the beat...again...awesome!

Jak do tej pory, najlepsza moim zdaniem perkusyjna lekcja samby. Mam nadzieję, że teraz opanuję ten porywający rytm🙂
Bardzo dziękuję.

Excellent demonstration and explanation. Would be perfect if there was also a transcription but I understand that time and resources don't always allow for being comprehensive.
Dig this explanation. Thanks.

Nice Premier set. I am also a Premier guy.

According to Zack Albetta the son clave doesn't appear in Brazilian music at all, only afro cuban. But I agree, pushing it one 16th would sound better
so cool
Bonjour Pourriez vous la déchiffrer en partition et' l'écrire Merci jean
unique

It is a APK kit!! Entry level kit but sounds great

Son clave over samba? Cuban clave over a brazilian rythm??? Pretty strange
This is american samba not brasilian samba😂😂😂
So, this is not Samba 😢

Thanks for the comment, but is it not a "real" jazz samba?
eso es clave de SON y NO va con el samba!!!!
Agree totally.

This is not samba
Not legit, right, more of a "jazz" samba. Thanks for watching and the note

horrible
Thanks? I do appreciate you checking it out and sorry you didn't care for it.
I'm sure you could do much better. Please post a link to YOUR samba video.
too much speaking, shut up and play
