Hannah, in case you ever wonder if your work in the world is being effective, I just wanted to let you know - I hit a bit of a hard place yesterday and wobbled away from the care habits I’m building. But I was able to stop the wobble and get grounded and stable almost instantly, and one of the thoughts that quite organically popped up in my mind once the metaphoric smoke cleared was that “I’m doing what I’m doing now because I really want to be the most effective and powerful version of myself as I do my work in the world!” So here in your therapeutic little corner of makeup TH-cam, you’re helping. A lot. I’m grateful.

I would like to echo this! Really since starting to watch HLP I’ve revamped my life& makeup collection& just the over time mental declutter. Reworking my mindset& really focusing on what my work actually is in the world. I honestly had never really thought positively about my work in the world& I began to really think& notice what I do& the impact& I really do have Hannah to thank for hitting the switch on the machine in me to do the work.

I feel like your content has forged a deep love for the qualities of my own makeup collection in a way that I've never thought about before. Hearing you talk about the textures of products, how you use them, how you discern the qualities of each piece and demonstrate how they realistically fit into your life, is just so enlightening. I'd never thought about my makeup in that way before and it's really meant I get so much more joy out of what I have. I love videos like this one, not because it makes me want to try anything you talk about, but because it makes me want to go back to what I have and appreciate it for what it is, and to look at it in a different way. I think you're superbly transparent about how PR influences what comes and goes in your life and utilise that to spread the message and essence of your channel. You have certainly equipped me with the critical thinking skills to know I don't need to buy the things you get sent in PR and talk about in videos like this. I enjoy watching you be giddy about eyeshadow that I will never want because I now know it's not what I want, whereas before I'd want everything just to capture that feeling. I also saw Gucci makeup and Pat Mcgrath makeup irl for the first time yesterday and after the first 20 seconds of being absolutely enthralled wore off I realised its just makeup and that was such an experience for me. Much love as always

It helps the viewer/listener to have something that is more pleasing to the ear. Also, mics have a tendency to sometimes bring out the higher frequencies so lots of times its helpful to dial those back, bring out a little more bass (that sometimes gets muddled during filming) but yes, he he, they probably have a little help and in real life their voice might now sound quite exactly like that :)

i know it's hard but you must resist the temptation to exfoliate flaky skin! your moisture barrier is impaired and exfoliation will make it worse. try using an oil, balm, or ointment to smooth out the surface of the skin and lock in moisture

      @violetviolet888 ปีที่แล้ว +5

@@podpoe Do NOT rub flaky skin to physically remove flakes. You only irritate, inflame, and damage the skin barrier which makes things exponentially worse. The number one thing you can do for flaky skin according to dermatologists is to apply an oil like jojoba or meadowfoam which are the most similar to our natural sebum. If your skin is "flaking" it is already in an active state of exfoliation. Trying to exfoliate on top of it simply irritates and aggravates the skin barrier making it exponentially worse. The oil will slip in between the flaking skin layers, hide them, and allow them to fall away without it being visible to you our the outside world.
After a bath or shower if at night: while your skin is still the slightest bit damp, start with your favorite water-based serums, wait 10 minutes. Then apply jojoba oil, then follow with retinol tretinoin if this is part of your routine, then moisturizer, and seal with an occlusive of which the best is petrolatum. You will wake up and your skin will be extremely hydrated.
During the day, go with serum, oil, moisturizer, sunscreen.
The use of oil will absolutely be life changing for you, let it do the work to help repair your skin barrier. To learn more, search Dr Dray's channel for videos regarding this topic.

This is only true if your skin is already irritated on top of being dry. If you have flaky skin but it is not irritated then there is nothing wrong with gentle physical exfoliation to remove the flakes that are already loose. Just don't try to scrub your skin raw.
Most of us are actually NOT such incredibly delicate flowers. Not everyone has such a super sensitive skin type that they can't exfoliate, we are not ALL the princess and the pea.

I feel there are not enough beauty influencers passing products along to those in need or talking about this concept of helping those in your community or donating them to organizations that will.
Organizations like *Project Beauty Share* who sterilize and donate used cosmetics and skin care to women and families who need help to have been displaced, have escaped violent situations, are experiencing poverty, or other barriers in life that have a direct impact on their wellbeing, hope, and dignity.
Give them away to friends, family, in order to *rehome* them to give perfectly usable product a fighting chance before ending up in a landfill. You can give them away via nextdoor, craigslist, facebook marketplace, etc, all are perfectly acceptable. People like me would happily come pick them up!

Please consider inquiring with your local women's shelters and look up the above, use your voice to spread awareness. At the very least, they can be used as pigments because that's what makeup is: for artists, kids, etc. It's a medium of color to be used, not to end up in a landfill. You could even compost it when removed from the packaging.

Any advice for someone with milia? And how to prevent them? I’m 39, so fine lines and wrinkle prevention is also something that I am wanting to achieve. I’m starting back on an OTC retinol serum 2 x a week. And I don’t know what kind of skin I have - maybe combination. Maybe normal? I don’t know. It’s not oily. Sometimes it gets dry, especially in the winter. T zone gets shiny during the day. Sounds like you understand skin better than me - any advice? I use a basic cetaphil face wash. My skin has gotten worse, as far as break outs go, as I’ve gotten older. Used to have perfect skin as a teen, now I have blemishes. Especially on jaw area. Sorry I know this is rambling and not very cohesive. ❤

Just an additional side note of caution! Don't put petrolatum-based/occlusive moisturizers on over strong actives (especially retinol/retinoids or exfoliators) unless you really, really know what you're doing. Occlusives help skincare ingredients under them absorb more effectively. BUT since stronger actives are already quite sensitizing to the skin, they can really cause damage if they're under an occlusive seal:)

Hannah, when you try out & review foundation (and concealer) can you also test them by trying to color match them to your skin tone (either by mixing 2 shades of foundation or, more realistically for you, using a white and/or green mix-in pigment)? It would be interesting to see how different foundations/concealers interact with a mix-in pigment both in pigment, texture, finish, and staying power.

The Herbneden Excema Balm is saving my dry skin this winter. Also try plumping your skin with a beauty oil before makeup. My skin is so dry the Jones Road Miracle balm isn't sticky on my skin. The clear shade of that would also be an option. Stay away from physical exfoliants as well.

Interesting that the lightest colour was yellow though. It was good to find that out as I would probably need the lightest colour so maybe it’s not for me after all (I pull neutral, pink if anything). I'm a new subscriber (I came from Kackie's) and I'm enjoying sooo much your approach. I've watched all your intense declutter and although it gave me a bit of anxiety seeing all what I have and going back and forth with the doubt whether or not I own way too much makeup for my veru regular everyday usage (I have a whole lot of blush and highlighters), but it also helped me learning new approaches of how to judge products in a declutter and I ended up doing a small declutter but satisfying nonetheless. Thank you for that!!!

My current fav dry skincare products are: 1. For night cream - eucerin q10 anti-wrinkle pro-retinol night cream *not retinol in it (it's thick, but a little goes a long way and I find it hydrating). 2. For daily spf - josie maran mineral spf 47 no tint (again a bit of a thick product but is so moisturizing and effectively doubles as moisturizer and spf. Works well under makeup. Does leave a white cast at 1st even on my skin type 1 skin) and 3. Glossier futuredew primer - a nice dewy primer with skincare hydration benefits that also lessens the look of texture due to hydration benefits.

What you said about the Chantecaille blush, I would say also applies to my current favorite blush from K Beauty brand Hince. It’s called the True Dimension Glow Cheek (screams about the branding) and the color I own is called Bare Reflection (screams again). It’s a veil of color that is glowy without being metallic. On my medium skin tone, the color is a little too sheer to show up on its own so I usually layer it over a cream blush and the effect is STUNNING. It’s a bouncy powder formula (akin to the MAC Glow Play) that is finely-milled and creamy enough to apply with your fingers, but I personally prefer a brush for that veil effect.
I don’t know if it is available where you’re from, but if you are able to get it, I’d love to hear your thoughts on it!

If my skin were compromised, I'd personally just let it shed itself, and try to keep it hydrated and moisturized. If I really wanted to exfoliate, I might use a very gentle physical exfoliant peeling gel that balls up. But I'd try to avoid the actives for a while.
    Humidifiers are also a game-changer.

I think Mel Thompson Contour instructions would work really well for you. that's the method that she taught me that works really well and I still use today but more recently I've been also been blushtouring still using her technique with the powder products on top versus on top of the powder products it looks less muddy and dirty on all on olive skin and a much more realistic look. If you have any ready bronzer to Contour with I would also suggest to start with that.

I a recommendation for an affordable and actually effective dry skin product that I’ve never heard anyone on TH-cam talk about.
    Neutrogena Norwegian formula hand cream.
It’s $4 and a small amount goes a very long way.
I’ve always had dry skin. And then I moved from TX to the Poconos onto the top of a mountain where we always get a ton of snow and it’s always bitterly cold and windy. In the summer we get like maybe 3 days above 80° type of cold climate.
Ive lived here 5 years and it has been such a battle of dry flaky skin plus hormonal acne.
Last year I had several concerning spots that turned out to be melanoma and needed removed and so I’ve been now regularly seeing a dermatologist.
And I asked her for a recommendation and she recommended I try that. It’s changed my skin. I literally bought all of my kids teachers and therapists and friends and family members and basically anyone I know a tube for Christmas! It’s a glycerine based product and doesn’t clog your pores but gives you the feeling of that…. I think they call it “slugging” trend where people put Vaseline or aquaphor or something like that on their face. If I do that I just enrage my hormonal acne.
I use the Agency prescription system, the klairs un scented tonor and mizon honey sugar mask you mentioned you used and then just that Norwegian formula hand cream. My skincare storage went from being full of stuff that half worked to a handful of reliable products that always works.
Also the stuff is amazing on eczema. My child is Deaf and has always struggled with bad eczema but in the winter his poor little hands get so dry and cracked and signing gets to the point of being painful. Which take away his hands you take away his ability to communicate. This year with consistent use he’s had no issues with his hands!

I just recovered my skin from the same situation! I decided to try out the skincare from REPHR- which includes a cleanser, essence and 2 different formulas of face cream( 1 light and 1 rich). It is a gamechanger! Besides the fact that the formulas are really good and nourishing but have not broken me out(extremely acne prone),they included meadowfoam oil in the formulas and I think this really helped to soothe my skin. Their rich cream formula is a literal balm that has a high shea butter concentration to create the best barrier I've ever had against the wind and cold of winter. And I've already tried slugging. This is not an ad for Repr- im just impressed and satisfied. Lol.

I realize I’m super late to this comment section, but in terms of dealing with dry skin, do you sleep with a humidifier? This is a game changer for me when the climate gets dry where I live. It does wonders for keeping the air around me moist enough that my skin isn’t parched when I wake up, which would happen no matter what I put on it. I do also use Cerave Healing Ointment as a top layer of moisture when its really dry, but I imagine that would not be great is you’re trying to prevent acne (though I don’t know for sure). But the humidifier is my best dry skin tip!

I can't stand tinted moisturizers either. Asian bb creams are the og - thicker and very substancial, even with lower coverage it is super pleasant to wear them. I know you enjoy the Purito one, I highly recommend Missha BB Perfect Cover, there's an awesome greyish, fair shade in the old formula, number 13. I tried the lightest from the updated one but the original is so much better. Holy grail.
