      @@matthewjamesmckay3025 I got a 2019 A1 30TFSI manual for £16500 (with 8k miles). Not S-Line, but had many of the added extras. Granted I got it in April last year when car prices were lower, but it’s defo worth it for me (18 year old who lives in a busy city). I wouldn’t of stood a chance at getting insured on an S or RS at 17, so this ticked all the boxes.

    It's the 30Tfsi badge on a 1 0 litre engine, S line badge on the door sills and £30k price tag that are, quite frankly, taking the p1$$ in my opinion.

    I've run one of these for 3 years as a second family car. It's a great car and the cockpit is what makes it and would have you choose this over a Polo. People saying it's too expensive need to open their eyes. Cars are too expensive. If you want to compare a 6 year old larger car to this in terms of price, go ahead and do that but people buy new cars for reliability and ease of use. If you'd rather spend your money on a larger older car, that's your prerogative. I bought mine for 32k and it's worth 28k now. Cars have simply shot up in price even second hand ones.

    • @cyberpope2137

      The whole point is that new cars have jumped in price unreasonably over last ~2 years, cheaper ones can be literally 40-50% more expensive than they were. My fully loaded 2019 Focus is right now worth the same as it was when I bought it and a new naked one on metal rims is even more expensive, which is completely unreasonable.

Commenters here saying “my 5yr old modified V8 engined 5000hp whatever cost less than that” are basically people who can’t afford a new car (or at least not the car they actually want) and are therefore irrelevant as far as the car manufacturering industry is concerned. Concur with most of the comments here. Way too expensive for what it is. Another thing commented in the review is how good it would be in and around London. Sadly i disagree. The width of the new A1 makes it quite large to manoeuvre down narrow London streets with width restrictions. Also seeing the car in the flesh made me mistake it for an A3 due to its bulk. I could not believe it was the A1 as it was so big (width is largely to blame for that reaction mind, as length is broadly the same). Why have they made the car so wide? 1st gen was perfect in dimensions.

    I have a 2019 new shape A1 (manual 30TFSI) and it’s a really, really great car. It’s my first car so I don’t have too much to compare it to, but it drives amazingly and the manual is really punchy (I’ve heard the Audi S-Tronic gearbox isn’t great in the A1 - manual is much better).
    Interior is really nice, CarPlay is a great addition to have.
    Insurance is really cheap too. I got the car when I passed at 17, and I’m still in my first year of insurance. I only pay £700 fully comp.
    Can’t recommend the car highly enough.

    You’d be better off getting the Ford Fiesta Titanium 1.0 EcoBoost MHEV 125bhp for a base price of £22,290 - You can even get a Fiesta ST for £27,320 and that has 200bhp

      As Joe pointed out this is a £25k car with “big car” options not a £30k car. Most people would pay 10% more for an Audi than a Ford so I’m not sure Audi are taking the pee. Factor in depreciation and the A1 will cost less than the Fiesta over a typical 3 to 5 yr ownership.

    • @DanCollinsPhotography
      @DanCollinsPhotography ปีที่แล้ว

      @@neilturner6749 Yes, but a Fiesta ST with £2k or £3k worth of options is still cheaper and than the car with the options he mentioned, offering far performance and better value for money. In my opinion anyway.

Or for 5k less you can buy a I20n with a 1.6T 200hp engine. I'm mean for me it's a no brainer, You get way more car for the money. I’m a VW owner over here, I love my car and give it proper TLC and it’s been faultless. But as you suggest with a lot of German cars it’s champagne lifestyle, lemonade budget. Because of this there are definitely a lot of bad ones out there, but in my experience it’s pretty much entirely down to owner maintenance.
