Why do you not talk more about Sudan? I understand that he's your husband, but you do have your own culture also. It seems like you are embracing everything Ethiopian, is he as involved in your culture. My husband is Moroccan and im Brazilian and we embrace bothh of our cultures. I more for his culture because he's Muslim, berber and complete opposite from Brazilian culture. Plesee embrace and let him embrace your culture more
I don't think she is deliberately ignoring her culture, nor is there a superiority between Ethiopian & Sudanese cultures like the previous commenter is saying. I think it just depends on how highly an individual holds their culture and that shapes the dynamic when two people come together, from my understanding Amena was born & raised in the US whereas her husband immigrated recently, so there is already an imbalance in the exposure they each had to their cultures. She speaks Arabic & does vlogs/videos about Sudan, & as someone who has lived most of my life outside Sudan, it is soo hard to hold on to that connection, I think Amena like myself is an example of how where you live dominates where you come from, but at the same time she hasn't completely lost that connection. Your experience with your husband is not comparable to another couples' just because it's also an intercultural relationship..
jan eulo I’m not Ethiopian or Sudanese, but I have been to both countries. I didn’t see Sudanese women as oppressed. Matter of fact, I saw many women who were doctors, engineers and teachers. overall their women are very strong. I don’t know why you think your culture is “superior” as if Ethiopian women are not forced to get married at the age of 15-16 in some part of Ethiopia! That being said, all African countries can do better when it comes to women rights, Ethiopia is not better or superior to any African country and theres nothing special about their culture either.
