A simple resistance meter using the arduino. The schematic is for Arduino nano but the breadboard tests are made using the UNO. For different scales I've used different values of the pre-definde values of R2 in the voltage divider.

Why add a rotary for the 4 different settings of the resistor? Just use the Arduino to scan each of the 4 resistor and use the value which has the most accurate Adc value. This way your resistance meter has an automatic range detection.

If you change the reference resistor to r1,and change unknow resistor to r2,you can use one reference resistor(around 5k),to measure a resistor up to 1M.

Dude, can you please make series of the videos on Arduino tutorials & how to start building any project? I'm familiar with programming. I just have some problems when to use which function for a particular work. Thank you...

You are good man! More power to you. Very informative and very educational. Now I can see more use for my arduino besides making LED blink. Thanks, man!

I have just watched a video by ElectroFun on the same subject (no LCD though). Now I have a problem. Their video presents R1 as the reference resistor and R2 as the test resistor.
I am guessing that it does not matter which you choose, so long as the chosen 'constant' reference resistor stays constant and you always swap the resistor that is in 'other position'?
But that is me guessing. Is my guess right, or is there only ONE way to set the reference/test configuration? [I will ask them the same Q).]

Hi, before coming to this video I was experimenting the same. But the Resistance measurement is "ok" only if the unknown resistance value is close to the known/fixed resistor value. If the unknown value is a bit far (200-500 ohms), the circuit does not show proper resistance. Any idea?

The 10 way rotary switch I have doesn't do anything when connected to the wires from the nano. In the description you say connect 5v to the centre pin if the switch, There isn't a centre pin on my switch. On the picture you show the 5v wire going to the switch body, is that the same as the centre pin.

Great explanation! Do you think rotary switch could be reolacedd by relays or transistor to make the scale change automatically? I want to measure a variable resistance without the need to change the switch. These relays to be activated by if conditions. Thank you!

How about using this idea for measuring much lower resistance values? I have an idea of using this in a project as a self test for a dump load using a 6 ohm resistor bank. If one resistor fails I would like the test to detect it but I'm not sure if the 1.5 ohm change would be detected reliably. Thoughts?

I’d like to try this project but will pass because it could be and probably is a major wast of time. If this guy would answer even a few of the questions in the comments to give readers some sense of confidence that he knows what he’s doing here I might consider making it and giving him a thumbs up but it’s obvious that’s not going to happen so I will leave him a thumbs down and depart confused...
