Karachi's powerful business community has asked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to restart trade with India and settle his differences with rival Imran Khan to stabilise the country amid a crippling economic crisis. Though Sharif did not directly respond to the suggestion, his foreign minister had promised to "seriously examine" the issue of restarting trade with India last month. Pakistan had cut trade ties with India after New Delhi revoked the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir in 2019. While Karachi's business community holds considerable clout in Pakistan, will their suggestion force Shehbaz Sharif to reset ties with India? Will Pakistan's army allow Sharif to restart trade?
