      Hi Clemwell,
      Quality of answers, mainly. Her responses are excellent, but perhaps some more complex phrasings could have given her a 9.0.
      These are not points to worry about, however, unless you are aiming for 9.0.
      Instead, focus on the strategies and skills you need to master to get your goal score (for most students, this is 6.5-7.5).

    • @lisowzki
      @lisowzki 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you very much for responding. I never anticipated such fast yet informative response.
      Yes, I aim for a 9 because I plan to be an IELTS instructor here in the Philippines. Having watched the video twice, I agree that her sentences were quite basic, however smooth and flawless they were. So I'll definitely take note of the complexity of syntax.
      Thanks again!!! =)

    Highest band score is not only for native speakers. I took the academic IELTS in June, and scored 8.5 with speaking. I am a non-native speaker, and living the whole my life in non-english speaking places in Africa & Asia. Non-native speaker, you can manage scoring the highest band as long as you are careful, structured, and know what you are speaking druing an interview.

      they wanna be a nurse or a doctor. Doctors must achieve an overall score of 7.5 (out of 9), with a minimum 7.0 in the four papers. Nurses must achieve and overall score of 7.0 with a minimum 7.0 in the four papers. There is no room for error on the test day.
      Scoring 7.0 at IELTS is no different to achieving an A at A Level or scoring highly in an undergraduate exam.

    I hate the cue card system. It's hard to make up stories in just one minute.
    I just thought, if i were in her place i wouldn't be able to say a word about Art piece . Cause i've never seen one in my life. and i don't have any interest in it.
    I know there's no solution for my problem. so i have a question, if i make up name of artist and and describe an art that doesn't exist , would it be okay?

    • @Aehelp
      @Aehelp  10 ปีที่แล้ว +227

      Yes, absolutely it is okay to make up an answer. *However, this is usually more difficult than to think of a real example. I strongly recommend searching your memory bank first for information before trying to improvise a story. Great question, and the best of luck.

    • @jeanov92
      @jeanov92 9 ปีที่แล้ว +71

      I think that if you are able to make up an answer it means that your English is really good. Even in our native language is too hard to lie sometimes and make up a story is even harder

Unlike many websites out there, we fill this section with real user testimonials and real pictures of those users. Because of your awesome score and feedback, we'd love to be able to use your first name/picture. If you could send us a picture of yourself (face, like the ones on the website), we would be greatly appreciative. Also, please include your nationality. If you are willing, please send this to admin@aehelp.com. This allows us to encourage other students to use our products and reach their goals and dreams. You don't need to be better than someone to score them based on a (mostly) objective set of rules. Also, this is literally an exam that lasts for a few minutes where you are supposed to give your very best shot at speaking as coherently and as clearly as you can. Almost no one will speak like that in most situations, simply because those situations don't require it.

    Hi all! Just wanted to share my experience with you because I feel like a lot of us are really nervous when it comes to taking the speaking test. It is quite nerve wrecking but you can do it! I got a 9 in speaking and 8.5 overall. Test was taken in Canada. I've spent quite some time here so I speak like a native speaker, but like what the comment says not all native speakers can get a 9 as you have to show a certain level of expertise on your topic. You need to be articulate and show no difficulty in conversing on something scientific/factual. What really separates an 8.5 from a 9 is precision and clarity of thought. If you just talk in every day speech it won't get you anywhere; you gotta be precise and make sure what you say really hits the nail on the head. Think before you speak! Good luck!

    • @fatgirlgogogo
      @fatgirlgogogo 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      luvfaye lee I think you should focus on being articulate, as in you need to be coherent and precise and try not to say a bunch of words when only one of them accurately conveys the meaning for you. I had exams when I took the test but I thought I at least needed to familiarize myself with the format---which I did, but I also made sure whatever I said I wouldn't have said it any other way, as in it mirrored my thoughts perfectly as if I was thinking out loud. Precision is key!

    All of the major English proficiency exams seem to have their own idiosyncrasies when it comes to how they judge performance on the speaking test. IELTS grading can be somewhat confusing and contradictory I think, for example when they promote things like using slang and informal speech which could receive negative points in any other test. The issue I believe is that these tests are designed to weed out certain targeted errors and stratify the applicants instead of just looking at things more holistically and assigning pass grades based on basic English competency in a simulated English-speaking environment.

      In this case you need to make it up - think about a movie or a famous art piece and pretend that you are a fan and have experience. DO NOT say that you do not have interest in the topic and do not know anything about it - you will lose a lot of marks. Good studies, www.aehelp.com

    these are very ideal interviewes. I hope IELTS will change to reflect real circumstances. Too ideal questions force candidates to lie. Faking with confidence is the way to go for high scores in present format.

    • @Aehelp
      @Aehelp  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately, it's not possible for the test to reflect the real world in more detail because the interviews would have to be custom created for each person and at least half an hour. Just imagine how much it would cost to do that !?

    I have studied English throughout my Schooling and University, however getting a good score in IELTS is all about understanding the exam technique which can be done only through the practice and comprehension. If you are a native English speaker or already good at English, is definitely going to be helpful but do not be overconfident that it will get you a higher band unless you practice ;-)

      Good question. She may get a 9. However scores of 9 are very rare because an examine must not only have great mastery of English, but also great mastery of each topic. In this case, master of some question topics is arguable, therefore this can cost that .5 grade.

    Why do all of the English learners always say if asked them what do you like to do or what do you think about art or music etc. all of them start to say; I love art and especially modern arts, galleries etc. I had seen a famous musician who played on the street as a street guitarist on youtube but everyone didn't look at him. I know lots of them who are love music especially classical music when you ask them.
    Well, why do people prefer to say like this? Because, I think we learn the English like this way. So when the English learners start speaking English we have become art, music and social life lovers. Finally, I watched lots of exam videos nearly all of them make imitation. These are in my opinion. I'm so sorry if I say unpolite speech. note: I am sorry for my bad English. I'm only B1

      This is a very common situation. First, remember that the person who is doing the interview does not mark you, so don't be scared. They are just there to ask you the questions. The people marking will listen to the recording, so be loud and confident otherwise they can't hear you! Think of the examiner as a grandpa or grandma who you have to speak to clearly, loudly and respectfully. Great question. I hope this helps. Lots more strategies at: www.aehelp.com

      "Live and learn". The sageness of this proverb has never been so appealing to me, as it is now when i have to pass IELTS exam.
      Well, I`d like to get grade 7, but there are several things i`m lacking, to get that result. Generally speaking, my speaking abilities aren`t "native" enough, much less to say about my pronunciation, and my writing skills are rough to the degree that i`d hardly ever be capable of writing a well organized and grammatically precise essay, to convince the examiner that i deserve a mark higher than 6. Nevertheless i have convinced myself that i`m capable of improving my English and getting as higher a result as it is possible for any human being.
      To conclude, i`ve been watching the tutorials on this channel for quite a time, and i`d say, it has definitely helped me a lot.
      Now i know my weak sides which i need to improve and thanks to the channel i know which direction to tread.

    • @Aehelp
      @Aehelp  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not true! In fact many native speakers are not able to score 9. This is because the mark isn't simply based on pronunciation, but much more on accuracy of language and information. These two elements do not depend much on being a native speaker, but rather on being an efficient communicator. This is why it is critical to develop strong communication skills to get high scores on IELTS speaking. Study hard, and you will get there. Good luck from the team at www.aehelp.com

    • @MalrexMontresor
      @MalrexMontresor 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's not BS guys. It's great practice in real life. There are plenty of situations where you'll have to lie or pretend you like something that you in fact have no interest in. For example, at a dinner with the boss when he's talking about his yacht. If you roll your eyes and say you don't like boats or the ocean, you won't have a job for long. (And yes, many executives are exactly that vapid in real life, they don't care how "skilled" you are).
      People like people who share similar interests. That's why being able to pretend to share those interests can help your career. It's a useful skill to be able to fake enthusiasm and talk effectively about a topic you do not like or know about.
      With enough practice, you'll be able to "wing it" on just about any topic and give people the impression of being a Renaissance Man. And that will do wonders for your future job prospects (as long as you aren't totally incompetent at work).

    I have been "diving" into several websites in order to practice intensively, as I need to get a 7 band in each part of the exam which is assessed, and, trust me, I have practiced A LOT. I even made some penpals, and, everyday, as soon as I get home I turn on my TV in English spoken channels, and my PC to chat with native speakers.
    Notwithstanding all I just mentioned, I still cannot reach the score I need.
    I think that the main problem is that no website offers any feedback to students who need it, like me. I am tired of watching sample videos and tips, I think I know ALL of them by now... but I need someone to coach me, specifically.
    It would be great if any of all the websites which claim they help us starts doing this...
    (you could even be the first to do so... just wondering...)
    Cheers!

    Ok, but if this is a training video, who gave her 8.5? I thought native speakers by definition were given 9, provided it was clear to the examiner that it wasn't just a bunch of phrases memorised for the exam. Was the 8.5 graded by an experienced ielts examiner? thanks for your channel, great video.

    • @Aehelp
      @Aehelp  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dem, No the Band 9 definition is not synonymous with native speaker. By definition a score of 9 shows expert grasp of language with detailed knowledge shown in all answers. The user is proficient in well articulated, complex and compound sentence responses. You do not need to be a native speaker for this. Yes, the student is graded by an experienced examiner. Just so people know, this would definitely be a nine rather than an 8.5, She is a native speaker. Candadians speak english, even the french regions all speak english. I can only assume that the people who made the video gave it a slightly lower score to scare people into thinking they are not good enough to convince them to subscribe.

    Hi @AcademicEnglishHelp
    I really like your TH-cam videos series.
    I am so curious to know about how much time and efforts did you put to make this kind of videos?
    What kind of tools do you use to record these videos?
    Do you record and edit this video by ownself or do you hire some company to do that?
    What kind of benefits do you get because of these videos?
    Do you do this full time or do you do it when you have time on weekends?
    How much time do you give daily to make these videos? do you make it at home or you went to some professional studio?
    How much money did you spend on this and how much money do you generate from TH-cam monetisation?
    Is it good idea to make video and give it for FREE rather then writing a book?

    Thanks for the video. It was very helpful for me. :)
    I have a question. It seems it's easier for me to speak American accent.
    Will there be any restrictions for the accents during the IELTS test?
    Should i get used to British accent before taking the test?

      +Talgatbek Kainarov Hi Talgatbek, Thanks for your question. You need to be familiar with the British accent for the Listening Section. However, for speaking it is absolutely okay to reflect the American accent.

      Any interview you see online is an example - real exams are never filmed as this is not allowed.

    • @Aehelp
      @Aehelp  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Christy, since IELTS interviews are forced situations (they do not naturally occur on a street or in a cafeteria), it is common for the examiner and candidate to both be on fleek. Do not focus on this too much, instead concentrate on answering questions well to get a good score. www.aehelp.com/full-course

    In Australiaq, this performance will be marked down to 8 for speaking.I did perform much bettyer than her but ending up as 8 ONLY. I used to get 8.5 for speaking, but it is no longer the case. It is quite impossible to get that high

    I thought the examiners would discount for talking colloquially... Are you 100% sure that they won't? I tend to say things like " wanna ", " 'cause " or " 'til " a lot and they're very difficult to get rid of

    The woman's English ascent is practically the same as native speakers, yet she only gets 8.5. can't believe this.

    • @Aehelp
      @Aehelp  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The score is not just for speaking as a native English speaker, but also for the actual response given to each question.
