Now that they've figured out the mystery for sure, I gotta say: I was really impressed that Simon sussed it out WAAAAY back in about episode 3 or 4, while I (and Tom as well, I think) were still sure it was all spookums. He *immediately* guessed that the "Manchurian Gold" wasn't literally gold, and I think just an episode later started theorizing that it was some kind of hallucinogen. Nice job, Simon!

Given that the reaction to this game has been lukewarm at best, and that the main criticism has been that the story was rather bland, I think the developers would have done themselves quite a big favor by stressing that it was based on a "true" story. Knowing that somehow makes it seem so much cooler now. Thanks for the heads up!
Nah the "Military Bio Weapon" cliché is a plot device as old as time itself. It was obvious since the intro of the game what was happening, especially with the abundant hints in the game. The real impressive thing is that they managed to keep everyone alive. Some of the decisions weren't a simple case of _knowing_ the why like that one decision where Tom had to try distract the pirate but the decision options were practically synonyms. They did a great job on that front.
Simon figured out the entire story in about 15 minutes haha. Mad respect to the master inspector that is Simon Lane. And some respect to the bumbling side kick that is Tom. And Supermassive Games, try harder next time. This game was bland as hell.
I think the idea was to reverse the plot twist from Until Dawn, since everybody was expecting the paranormal twist this time. Unfortunately, in doing that, they had to craft the game in a way such that the twist would make sense- and that led to an introduction/prologue that sadly gave away far too much information that it became incredibly easy to predict the entire story.
I guess, in the end, the boat is still supernatural. No way the fuel and paper would have survived 70 years on the ocean without some sort of magical intervention. Fuel goes bad in...2-3 years, I think? Paper...well, it was in a damp environment for 70 years. Probably would be paste by now.
Honestly I was really hoping that the hallucinogenic gass would just be a red herring to distract the player from four actual ghosts, represented by the the four coffins, but, they kinda just gave away the twist super early and made the story about a bunch of guys dicking around on a boat.
Well, it looks like the Riddle Bros had _"The Case of Sick Bae and the Manchurian Gold"_ solved exponentially faster than our characters. Well done, sirs. Here's to hoping the rest of your luck/skill with the QTEs plays out smoothly, and you don't beans it up all at the finish line!
So just found the co-op for this game alters each players hallucinations and timings of them, depending on which character you play. so one player sees things on screen the other doesn't.

I dunno man, everybody seems to love Until Dawn but the script was a mess, you had to figure out some obscure demon was happening while 3 other stories were setup, and by the end you'd be dumb to not hate every single character there. All horrible human beings maybe with the exception of the brother, that was loony but hell the rest of them had 2 girls killed. This might be a little slower, but it's a cohesive story with characters that can be shaped much more by your actions than Until Dawn had. Sure the plot is pretty obvious, but at least there is a focused plot instead of the mess of until dawn. Until Dawn was a big old mess, and can pass off as a decent game if you ask me, very well constructed from a technical standpoint and the amount they shoved into it, but from a character and plot perspective it was a mess that should praise itself lucky it's considered decent, it had no right to be.

It is only natural that this game's quality is worse than it's predecessor.

If this hasn't been said yet, this game plays great in Co op, it was definitely made for the co op as there are MORE decisions you take control off as a team and you don't know what your partner has done. Its a shame that Tom and Simon or any of you look into this game as this was by far a great experience with my friend, and now I decided to watch this as a single player story and you can see it has flaws and some decisions just get set out for you(though you guys would not notice). This definitely isn't as good or as long as Until Dawn on a single player perspective but if the next game is still Co op in this Anthology then PLEASE Tom fans and Tom, do it Co op without communication with each other (trust me, you understand), as this was a Unique Horror experience for me and me friend and that's how they wanted the game played really.
I enjoy the curator’s cut for allowing people playing single-player to see the other side of the coin. My friends and I played MoM first in movie night, and perfectly there were 5 of us, but I was the only one that enjoyed it so I was the only one to continue playing them. After playing HoA I am desperately trying to convince one of my friends to try the co-op with me. I think he’d love it.

They revealed the ghosts and shit were all the asshole brother, but then we found out that there were ACTUAL Windego. I think it's too early for the cast to have figured it out, so I'm guessing there is more to it than just the Manchurian Gold. My other two main reasons are A) The prologue shows two different cargo holds with something in them (one with the coffins, the other had like a box with a skull on it or something) and B) We did see weird 2-headed skeletons.
Amazing how that generator managed to last just long enough for them to make a failed Radio call then quit working... And everyone is just like, okay that makes complete sense...
The scariest thing about this for me is watching them run around on an old ship littered with rusty jagged metal edges everywhere while seemingly being dressed for a beach party, some of them are even barefoot!

This playthrough is totally different to the other that I've watched (JesseCox). Seem to recall the characters mentioning the ship name on the radio in that playthrough.
I’m not into this game as much as Until Dawn. I feel games like this need some REALLY strong characters to be good. Until Dawn had you really rooting for characters like Sam and REALLY hating characters like Emily, but all of them were uniquely different and fun to observe. You could easily tell which character you should make say really bitchy stuff and who you shouldn’t; and although the choices of what to say/do are yours, it’s better for the story to have different character personality traits. This doesn’t have that, they could all say/do anything and I wouldn’t care. Only Brad has any different traits and it’s because he is literally their groups outsider... classic nerd forced to step up

Maybe exposure to the gas also gives them brain damage, retarding their IQ to the point where they can't piece together what's going on... But big-brain Brad had 200 IQ to begin with and even if it's now 100 IQ, he's still smart enough to figure it out.
