Cool, I thought I'd have to polish that a lot more before DT wouldn't hate it. I didn't start the project but I made it my baby for a while and I'm really pleased to see it getting attention here even if I thought it wasn't ready yet.
I ended up finding that kwin needs some changes in order for Bismuth to support multimonitors and virtual desktops the way everyone wants, so I changed my focus to kwin for now. Meanwhile one or two others are looking at porting the typescript over to c++ which will probably help with future upstreaming into kwin. Also there's been some work on a gui applet so that non-tiling users can discover some tiling features too, a bit like the tiling gui in popos.
That was the development news as of a few months ago but I know there's been activity since then.

It looks very nice. I currently use dwm but this looks like a good alternative. I just had to make sure its easy to add custom layouts (which I need for my 4k and soon 8k monitor) and it looks pretty easy to do. Do you know if this works on a read-only root filesystem such as steamdeck? Since steamdeck already comes with kde having this available would be cool.

this is exactly how good it is, in something like i3 or sway, a beginner can't even enable wifi and connect to a network, having a tiling window manager in an already fully fleshed out DE is the best thing in both worlds.

I tried tiling window managers, but it didn't work with my workflow. As a software engineer, I only focus on one window at a time, because otherwise they'll easily distract me. So I have one window per workspace in my workflow. And if a window is small window, I'm going to center it always. So I use Rectangle with KDE. You can easily stack windows to side if you need.
And whenever I need a terminal, I always have Yakuake open which gives me a drop down terminal, quake style. I use TMUX inside it though, so that itself works well for me.

I find Tiling window managers lacking in basic support in things like Volume control or notification centers. You have to set it up yourself and end up feeling you're re-inventing the wheel. I'm an ex-awesomeWM, it has notification, but not a notification panel-center. To put it in other words.. Tiling window mangers are not desktop environments, so you have to struggle setting up stuff you would normally get in a desktop environment and are things you NEED. With Bismuth you can do it the other way around, which is MUCH more faster and friendly and less of a headache, and with much more support from the community because it's mainstream, and plasma is incredibly configurable.
The only thing I miss from Bismuth (it's in the works, so they say) is a widget that can for example show on the bar what layout is being used, or can shortcut to other "tiling" functionalities.
