Houston guy here...... There's a lot to offer in Houston. Harris County has the largest population of black people in the US. Houston is also always top 3 for being the most diverse city in America. There's a plethora of jobs. Houston has the largest medical center in the world. It is the capital of the oil and gas industry, so there's plants and refineries galore. Did I mention NASA, Port of Houston, and surrounding agriculture? We also are an 1.5 hour drive to Louisiana. Lot's of people from Baton Rouge, New Orleans and southwest Louisiana live here.
The nightlife is top tier, and there are many black owned venues and restaurants. The Gulf of Mexico is only 45 minutes away, so if you want to go to the beach then have at it. Our culture is southern, Tex-Mex, Cajun and Creole. So you can have a crawfish boil on Friday, bbq on Saturday, and eat some fajitas and tamales on Sunday.
Lastly, if you're looking for a relationship there are many single black professionals. Everything from doctors in the medical center to chemical engineers working at a plant. Most men from Houston are looking for traditional women and not city girls or boss chicks. Be careful, because the latina women here are trying to compete with our sisters for the same men.

Houston lifestyle is VERY fast . The women are beautiful. They also have variety I’ve seen a lot of women wear all kinds of styles . The cons the people are broke and trying to keep up with lifestyles. Dallas maybe slower nightlife wise , but the real black wealth is in Dallas , hence the reason I left Houston.

@@EJIMANnenaNgozi Might want to double check your stats on that. According to Blackstar News in 2024 the top 5 wealthiest black communities in TX are in, and around Houston. The 5th is Austin. The next 4 are all in or around Dallas. Houston also has more black people and own a larger share of the cities wealth. Just something to think about for anyone who may see this.

    • @jus3278

I’m originally from OKC and have resided in Houston since 2/2021. Career wise Houston has been great for me, there’s always something to do, however the traffic I can do without. As far as the lifestyle and what’s popular here I march to the beat of my own drum and stay in my lane. I’m a natural woman, with natural hair, I get out for eateries, jazz in the park and events such as that or either family oriented affairs. As far as what’s popular here I simply do what fits me. I’m currently single and that’s fine as well, I believe in time I’ll meet someone I’m aligned with. Hoping to have a love story where we crash our baskets in an HEB or meet walking in the park 🤣
I live a peaceful life here and I Love it! One of my best decisions was stepping out on faith and relocating to Houston and I truly believe the best it yet to come!

As a black man that’s lived in Houston for 12 years, we know whenever someone new comes here they wanna taste test everything, us men we wanna taste all the find gorgeous women here and it plenty and hundreds of thousands more coming the next year, for the ladies it’s guys here for you, I am speaking in the black man side. We go after our black women so if your moving from some place and yall think black men don’t want or chase black women, a week in Houston you will have 10 plus men a day trying to holler at you like it’s the 90s and have over 300 new matches on whatever dating app. We here and we for the ladies, but wear your natural hair, it’s a killer for us, like we go crazy over our black women in natural hair not wigs not weaves we live that Afro we love the locs and braids. Yea it’s a lot of ass down here but you can be slim and trust we gonna still ask you out. Always things to do.

I lived in Atlanta bout 20 years ago in my mid 20’s, I felt the same way you all feel now . I’m from NJ, I’m 6ft tall and was couture model built at the time. I was very anxious that I was not going to fit in. Somehow I found my niche , it could have been my natural beauty, skin, hair, my height, and possibly my size worked for me.
I think “the southern thing to keep your hair done”, is actually a bit of shame, self hate and a form of anti blackness… ofcourse to an extent. I’m referring to wigs, weaves, braids, etc
