I'm not necessarily opposed to dipping the game audio when they talk, but don't dip it so low you can't even hear it anymore. It should be more subtle.
Yeah just wrote a comment about this too. Really not good editing at all. I’ve not seen anyone else that does it like this. It sounds awful. There are very many ways to overlap the audio in such a way that you can hear both the voices and the game. I mean they’ve done it for years. Kinda weird
Came to the comments to say precisely this. The way it fades to inaudible levels for a whole second before they say anything/everything is just obnoxious.
As a professional audio editor, this could be handled much better without much effort. If you set up compression on the game audio that listens to Dan and Arin's mics instead of the game audio itself, it can duck the audio whenever Dan and Arin are talking. I think the key to making this work is to have the attack and release time set to be super quick, and make sure the game audio doesn't dip too far when it happens. I always thought it was weird how they didn't raise important game audio in the editing process, so I'm glad they're trying something. But this execution was more annoying than welcome, and I'd rather them keep it low the whole time than hear this. It's very distracting.
I feel like the fading audio would be more effective and less annoying if it happened the instant they started talking. As it currently works it's taking away from the comedic timing since I can predict when they'll start talking.
@@carlotta4th Yeah this isn't just lowering audio, this is practically muting. It also seems too sensitive, there are times it's clearly getting triggered by the Grumps just making minor noise and not even talking.
Oh my goodness I am so glad the Grumps have discovered the madness that is Samer Khatib games. I hope they play more of their work, it’s equally if not more wild. But as others have said that audio dipping is really bad, especially since it often is just they are reacting to audio in the game, except you cut out whatever they reacted to.

I remember they said they have a new audio setting where the game audio cuts out when they talk and this is the first time I’m actually hearing that. 😂
Ohhhhh so that's what that is. I thought the audio for the game was just really messed up. Definitely much more noticeable here than what I've heard in other episodes.
The fact that it really is dumb P.T. Is amazing😂 but the audio in this vid really annoyed me, the lowering of the game audio really confused me at first, i thought something was wrong 😅
I appreciate them trying to make an effort to audio balance a bit, but I did not enjoy the game audio dropping - especially with how often they talk over dialogue
You guys should fidget with the sensitivity on the Noise Gate filter you have set up, there were a bunch of points during the phone call around 16:00 where the game audio would get super quiet because Arin would do that semi-silent laugh/scoff thing that everyone does when we type lol or lmao.
I sometimes have the opposite issue where the audio in the game is too low for me to hear properly, so the audio lowering made things worse for me. Great video, though.

Yeah I can’t even enjoy this video. So bad. It’s not hard to edit audio like this. You have game audio and 2 mics. All you have to do is level them and MAYBE compress the mics like the smallest bit. It’s like they freaking side-chained the mics and the game at like 1000%.
Another crap day saved by the grumps Also not sure if it’s just me but I don’t really like how the game audio turned down when they talk, it’s distracting
Yeah, I like the idea of it, but I feel like the background audio is too muted and that they probably should have kept it to when they go on tangents instead of just merely laughing along with the dialogue, etc.
I know it’s probably a reference to an upcoming episode, but until it goes up, I choose to believe they just play Furry Feet for fun in between recording sessions.
When I'm watching Grumps it's usually time that I'm doing something else as well. I'll watch here and there but listen to the whole thing.
