How to catch an Armadillo

- Trapping armadillos can be pretty tricky. There isn't really any baits that are attractive to them. The best way to catch them is to use boards, or some type of blocking to funnel them into your trap. Using a double door trap can be a plus too. There are some wooden traps that you can buy that are "pre scented" with armadillo scent, that seem to do pretty well at catching armadillos, but its still advisable to use something to funnel the armadillos towards your trap. We had gotten rid of our traps so I bought one late last night. We used some 2x6 boards I had on hand and it only took about 10 minutes to set up at 11:00pm. We woke up this morning and the Texas speed bump was caught!

Armadillo scent attracts them. I live in Oklahoma. we have ALOT of these guys here. Lol
B more fun to use them as target practice for the .22 ! Just get some subsonic .22 shorts and have fun.

What do you use to ATTRACT it into the trap? There’s almost no way to guarantee it’s just going to happen to wander into an empty trap… I have one that is DESTROYING my garden EVERY night, and I finally have a live trap but don’t know how to entice it

Some people use worms, sardines, or over-ripe fruit but it isn't necessary. They are attracted to the scent of other armadillos. He could put leave the armadillo in the trap for around 12 hours so it will leave a scent in that spot. That will attract other armadillos to that spot. I use a wooden trap. They leave their scent in the wood of the trap. That allows me to move the trap to other locations and it still has the attractive scent. The nice thing about that trap is that the more you catch the better it works. Check the trap at least once daily. If you leave them in the trap more than 24 hours or if they die in the trap, the trap will be ruined and you will never catch any more with it.

What do you put on the bait to attract the armadillo?
The best bet is to use funneling, boards in a wide V shape to direct them into the trap. There are some baits out there but I haven't seen any that are super effective. There are some wooden traps, Trap-a-dillo, that are supposedly more attractive because they have armadillo scent in them, I haven't used one to verify though

I have a wooden trap with the 2 trap doors and caught about a dozen this year. I have had them break open the wire mesh traps because they are that strong. If you're in a humid area, the wooden traps warp and swell. It's a struggle. Trying to work on a good design that requires minimum maintenance. The armadillo baits do not work. Do not buy them. Waste of money
Funny you say that, I just had one break the door of one of my cage traps. I've seen the 2 door wooden traps, and read that people have alot of luck with them, especially once the trap gets a good armadillo scent to it.
Get some meal worms and put them in the trap , they love meal worms

@@TheGolfinj98 mealworms are cheap , it sure doesn't hurt , they have an excellent sense of smell
@@moultriemanicmechani unfortunately you catch other things besides armadillos with bait. The only other thing I’ve caught when just using my scented trap, is a groundhog. They seem to be nosey compared to other animals
Clint Johnson from Louisiana makes an excellent lure. Trap can be set with no guide boards.

They are some pesky little vermin. They can mess up a garden for sure or what I hear from others I watch.

This is not even anywhere practical for my yard. My yard is sprawling. I am trying to figure out where the bastard is going during the daytime. I have every possible hiding spot blocked. There is a creek down below the backyard, but why would he travel 800 feet just to dig up the front yard? He is ruining it!.

Stay up at night wit a shotgun
They will wander into empty traps, best use no bait and you won't catch other animals.
