They should make the blower pack reversible so you can suck the air out quickly too.
Genius!! For real
They do
@@BB-br4qhnot on the mega duo queen. I don’t think the valve piece for the widget fits the exhaust port on the mattress. Can anyone confirm?
Thanks for the video! Gonna go with the long wide double after seeing them side by side.
Nice! Thanks for watching!
I loved my exped while it lasted. Had a puncture during my second summer which was pretty disappointing. Been using a Hest mattress lately and have been really enjoying it despite being extremely less packable
The Hest mattresses feel great. I’ve tried them as well and as long as you have the space you can’t go wrong with them!
I bought an Exped and it came with a defect, a bubble in the surface material. Went with the Hest wide sleep system. You can unzip the top if you want to cut weight on a shorter trip or if your space is more limited. I have 2 and they make a queen bed combined. These are the most comfortable that I've ever tried. The specially engineered foam shines in freezing conditions. I think the r-value is something like 11.
@@909jtscofield yeah i really love the hest despite being kind of big rolled up
@@909jtscofield your hest didn't freeze up and keep you in the body dip? I'm debating on getting one but sometimes I car camp in 7*-20* weather and most foam will compress from my weight and the cells freeze and I can't roll out of it......
Do you have the hest foamy pad or dually mattress? Been also contemplating that or exped
Hey, thanks so much for a comprehensive review on this mattress. We're definitely going to go to REI and check it out tomorrow. My question is, we're getting two, 41 inch stretchers and these would fit perfectly on top; do you think that would still be a viable option for putting these mattresses on a stretcher
Hey, glad to hear it was helpful! I’ve tried putting my 52in exped on two cots and while it worked, you can feel the beam when laying in the center. Depending on how your double stretcher is constructed it may work.
Thank you for the reply. I actually have a 40 inch wide cot and the megamat is 41.
@@Pangoban Oh nice, that should be perfect then!
@rtmadani purchased the mats last night along with the cots, and the two together worked absolutely perfectly!
Nice!! Glad to hear it works well!
Awesome review! I'm about to pull the trigger on the long wide double. Have you measured the dimensions with a tape measure? I'm curious what the ACTUAL size is, because it's usually slightly different than advertised. I'm wondering if the 52" wide mattress will squeeze in my 50" wide tent...
Thank you! The measurements are exact edge to edge. It may be too big, but it may also work squeezing against the sides, since there’s usually an inch or so of give there. Is your tent 50 in wide throughout the whole length? I know a lot of tents start at 50ish and taper down.
Love the channel and I keep finding your videos when I’m looking for anything camping related. Question: What is the largest size 4” model that will fit inside the Snow Peak Alpha Breeze? I have 2 little ones that like to sleep with us. Thanks
Hey, thank you so much! Exped makes the MegaMat in a queen size as well but you could also do two of Mega Mat Duo M’s, which are 40in wide and then you’d essentially have a king size bed. Keep in mind the queen size offers a little extra length. If you’re near 6ft the 40in wide ones may feel on the shorter side as they are 6ft long. Hope this helps!
Thanks, the megamat looks great. The deflation time/effort is the only downside I can see for my purposes for daily use. Most of the electric air pumps I've come across have a deflation feature but I don't see that included on the Widget - do you think one of those might work or is there no such workaround for the squishing?
You can use the widget to deflate the mat about halfway, but you still have to press and roll the remaining air out. It depends how compact you want it rolled up.
@@rtmadani Thank you
I have a couple thermarest basecamps for camping, good r value, better than hard ground but something thicker might be nice, I have to say for ultimate warmth I'm guessing your son has it best sleeping in between mom and dad, sounds like you guys are making great family memories. I really wish we could get out camping more, life goes too fast.
Thanks for the review.
Oh yeah with the three of us in there it gets pretty toasty! Hopefully you’re able to get some time to get out there. Thanks for your support!
I used to have a big mattress similar to the Exped from a Canadian store MEC, the Reactor 10. I discovered the Big Agnes Rapide SL Tent floor pad, 50 in wide but tapered shape at 40 in at the foot. It packs so small and fits in small two persons tent like a charm. Very comfy!
I've tried the Rapids SL line, feels great! Didn't know they had a double though, that's pretty cool!
Thanks for the great videos. Always learned a lot from you! Curious if you are aware when the next REI sales will be, which members could get 20% off on single item. Thanks
Thank you! The next coupon will be out next Friday, the 17th. Right now the Expeds are 25% off though so even better!
Waiting for the next rei member sale too. Missed out on the recent one cos wasn't decisive. Ur video helped me make up my mind. Any idea when is the next rei member sale for the exped megamat?
@vincentho7050 Glad to hear the video helped. REI’s next sale is in early November, I want to say around the 10th. It might be on sale, since it’s their biggest sale of the year, but if not you’ll get a 20% coupon.
Perhaps I missed it, but what size are you using in this video?
Both the Duo M and LW Duo so 40in wide and 52in wide
Just got mine. Same as yours. I opened it up and unrolled it but two hours later it still hasn’t inflated at all. I also tried inserting the little valve thing in the inflate hole but it doesn’t seem to help. How long should it take to inflate the very first time??
The first time can take all day, just like a memory foam bed in the box mattress. Don’t inflate it at first, let the foam decompress on its own and then add air.
For storage you have two options for quicker inflation at camp. Store it with valves open either under a bed or in a closet and then roll up prior to packing your car. Or, keep it in its stuff sack compressed and unroll it at least 24 hrs before your trip that way the foam has time to decompress.
If your storing it with the valves open, and just roll it up prior to your trip, it will self inflate in about 30min. It just takes a while at first cause it was probably stored compressed for 6+ months.
Should I open both valves to let it inflate at first or just the inflate valve?
I believe just the inflate valve needs to be open. The first time I followed their instructions and I remember it took a while. Once it looks at least a little decompressed add some air, and it should start taking form.
Thanks I’ll try to add some air because it’s still looking as flat as can be this morning. I was hoping to check on it and find a completely full mat.
You know coming to think of it, I think I forgot to mention putting the toggle into the flap to allow air to enter. There’s a stopper flap on both the inflate and deflate and the toggle on the inflate valve cap allows you to either remove air when full or passively add air.
Sounds like you had the 40 inch. Do you think the Long Wide will be good for 2 adults and a 3 year old (we all look to be about the same size as your family). Digging your videos, I've been a backpacker mostly but starting to beef up my car camping now that the kiddo is ready. Thanks!
We have both sizes and the long wide is what we’ve been using since Emmett was a baby. He’s four now, and we all still fit on the mattress surprisingly. It’s only 52in wide, but for some reason it feels more spacious than that. We also come from backpacking mindsets so that may have an influence as well! I recently picked up the 40in if just my wife and I go and bring a smaller tent.
@@rtmadani Nice! Thanks for the replies. Pumped for this set up. Just scooped the Alpha Breeze and the long wide pad.
I'm thinking of buying the Skykamp mattress for my iKamper 3.0. It's expensive at £500, so this option your reviewing may be cheaper.
Would you recommend this over the Hest Foamy pad?
I prefer the feel of the MegaMat over the foamy. The Heat feels really soft, almost like a ultra thick foam topper. The Exped can be dialed in to the firmness you like. I think where the hest would really perform well is on flat surfaces like the back of vehicles or roof top tents, because your already on a platform. In a tent, you may bottom out and feel what’s underneath you.
@@rtmadaniso it’s been a while and REI has this pad on sale. Currently waiting for the email telling me it’s ready for pickup! This will cover the whole interior of our Amenity Dome S! Thanks form one Snow Peak geek to another!
Hey - have you ever / can you use the electric mattress inflator to help deflate it ? Seems like that could be a faster way of aiding in deflation, just never see anyone doing it.
thanks !
It's possible, my wife actually used that function a couple trips ago. She said it worked but it took a while and got it about 60percent or so deflated. We find it easer to just deflate it manually.
Lost horizon has pump for deflating
Did you also consider the duo 10 queen, any particular reason you didn't go with it? Wondering if that would still pair well w/ the SP Alpha Breeze?
At the time I got mine, the queen size didn’t exist yet. I’m glad they offer it now and I think it would work great in the Alpha Breeze.
Is the pump two way? Can it also be used to deflate?
It's best for just inflating but possible to help with the deflation. It won't get it 100 percent, so you'll still have to get the air out manually. It would be nice though if they made it more powerful to do so.
Thank you for your review, and showing both sizes against each other, very helpful! We’re shopping and extra mattress for guests and also want it to double for car camping. After a little research, seems like the investment in a good quality mattress pad is a smart choice and we’ve narrowed down between this one and the Thermarest Mondoking. Have you tried that model as well and if so, did you have a preference? Is one more comfortable and / or durable? Thanks!
Haven’t tried the Thermarest, but it seems to be rated highly as well. I’ve had such good experiences with Exped though, ever since our first one back in 2015.
Nice review! Thanks!
Thank you!
Hi! Thank you for the video! I’m wondering if both mattresses would fit together in the SnowPeak alpha breeze? Or maybe get the larger one and a single exped for our son?
You could fit one 52in and one 40in, but it'd take most of the floor space up. I think having one double and single for your son would give you the most space in the tent.
Would you rather two megamat 10 LXW or one duo LW
You’d have a larger sleeping surface with the two LXW’s, but for us the duo LW has been just fine. I’m not sure that you would notice the split down the center as the mattresses are pretty squared off. I don’t think you could go wrong either way, but if you’re looking for closer to a queen size going two LXW’s would be the way to go.
How does this compare to the Hest Sleep System?
I just got the Hest system and will be using it for the first time tomorrow on our trip. Here’s my initial thoughts though: Your able to get a firm feel out of the Exped by adding more air. The Hest offers a softer feel with more contour. With the Exped you have a to add air (not difficult) but with Hest you unroll and good to go. The Hest is bulkier and heavier than Exped. Another thing to keep in mind is the new Exped pump that was released that also fully deflates the mat. Pretty much takes all the work out of deflating!
@@rtmadani Wow I happen to catch you at the right time just acquiring the Hest :) Thanks for the quick reply with the initial thoughts! Have you looked at the 'LostHorizon' pads? They look exactly like the Exped & have the pump as well
@@alizeriancrimson5692 Of course! I've heard of them and they do look similar to Exped, but I can't confirm the quality since I haven't tried one.
Thank you for the review! Just wondering, how is the Megamat when you lay on your side? Do you feel the ground underneath the mattress?
Never felt the ground on this mat. I still think a strict side sleeper would prefer the 6in thick for that extra foam and contour, but hitting the ground shouldn’t happen on either.
Great review, thanks a lot! Currently I would rather go for the LW+. BUT we have a Ford X-MAX and the LW+ version is 20cm too wide around the wheel-houses. Would it be a problem to squeeze the mattress at this point? Or would it definitely be too wide? What is your experience?
Thank you! I don’t think it will work, there’s not much give when it’s inflated. Have you seen the Exped Model TXY? That one is essential a LW+ designed to fit in the back of SUVs, so it may work for your setup as well.
My suv Chevy equinox suv is 36 inches between wheel wells. Will the mattress bend up on both sides to fit since its 42 inches and if so, will it be comfortable?
It doesn’t have much give so I don’t think it will work
I see lots of people these days suggesting for couples to get two single megamats and join them with the exped straps. Benefits being that the partner doesnt get bothered at night when one person moves, option for only one of you to go camping, and if you get a puncture you dont have to replace the whole thing. Any reason you went duo over double singles?
We went with the duo mainly because we were planning on sharing it with the three of us. We got it when our son was two years old and he was sleeping with us at home anyway so we wanted to keep it the same out camping. If your a light sleeper, I could see the benefits of having two mats to prevent waking each other.
Did you say the widget come with the mattress? Or do you have to buy separately?
The widget is separate, it comes with a mini hand pump.
I am looking for 1 and exped have only 5 y warranty where others have lifetime
I only have experience with Exped brand camping mattresses. I’ve used their backpacking and Mega Mat line of mattresses and the quality is excellent.
@rtmadani how durable exped mat is? I heard they quite fragile is that true? I looking at nemo roamer and seat to summit
We’ve been using our Mega Mat and haven’t had any issues. I’ve tried the roamer and it feels decent, but not quite as comfortable as the Exped. I know several people who own a roamer and also agree the Exped feels nicer, although feel is always subjective.
I just bought the Nemo roamer. I love it so far. Now I’m second guessing my purchase.😅
The Nemo feels pretty good as well, it also should deflate quicker with the extra valves.
@@rtmadani I have heard the exped is bit more comfy. I got he roamer for a really great price. I’ll keep an eye out for sales someday maybe.
Nemo has a lifetime warranty, I'm currently in my SECOND warranty replacement.
Couldn’t you just use a pump to deflate it as well? :)
The Exped pump kind of works to deflate it, I'd say about 70% of the way, so I still end up having to get the air out manually. Maybe a stronger pump could do it.
Anyone here tried Nomad Premium Duo 10.0 and 15.0?
They all almost look like they're coming from the same factory but in different logos and colours hehe :| Therm-a-rest MondoKing™ 3D has a unique in and out single valve but not double hence even their XXL is too narrow. HEST beds look nice and probably most reliable than any air beds but obviously can't compress them much if at all. It would be nice to have air beds that can be joined together to create one wider when going together and single for solo trips but couldn't find such.
Nice. The air compressor should have a inverse function to suck out the air, kind of vacuum packing the mattress
I think it does, I’ll have to give it a shot!
.... and ?
If they were not sooooooooooooooooooooooo expensive I would buy one without a second thought.
They should go on sale soon fluctuating between 20 to 30 percent off. Still expensive, but after two years of using ours I feel it was worth it!
can the pump deflate?
Not very well, but it can take some of the air out. It's quicker to just lay on it, since it's 4inches thick of foam.
Déçu de ne pas avoir vu la mise en service du matelas....from Paris
For
the price a HEST pad is a better wat to go.
I've tried the Hest Foamy and personally feel it's too soft. I prefer the option to dial in the firmness with the Exped using air and foam. However, that's just my preference as mattress feel is unique to each person. Thanks for watching.
Posted 2 hours ago! Hot Dog! Good vid.
Thank you!
The cost is ridiculous!
I had the exped but it lasted about a year before
it bubbled up on me to the point I couldn’t sleep on it ….. don’t waste your money … it was a big disappointment !!!
I’ve had mine for several years with zero issues. I recommend contacting them as they give you a 5 year warranty.
800 bucks im good thanks :)

Inflates camping matresses NEVER last!! ..it's a complete environmental shame! Are you sponcered somehow? Let me know in 2 - 4 years from now how good shape it will be plz ..i'm very curious
There are a ton of air mattresses out on the market, many are cheaply made. Same with tents snd everything else for that matter. However, Exped mats are made very well, and even backed by a 5 year warranty. We’ve had ours for 2 years now and have had zero issues. The very first backpacking mat I purchased was also an exped, which I had for 7 years and then sold it in great condition. Our TH-cam channel is not sponsored by any companies.
Good god. Who pissed in your cereal!? I love my mattress from them! Definitely recommend! 👌🏼
What a dork
My goodness I think you woke up on the wrong side of the mattress. Pun intended 😅
