- These guys are definitely unique and seem underrated for what they offer, but maybe because they're a new unit? Let me know what y'all think about them!

7:17 It's a little village called Collioures in southern France, 3k inhabitants it's pretty common to have small medieval villages like that in France but indeed it being next to the sea make it even prettier.
Cotlliure! I didn't recognize it at first.
@Sofax Oh cool, it will gives inspiration for making metal gears levels seeing military training in the beach and attacking from the sewers😅
Yep, big cities like Paris come from a modern "bourgeois" vision of France, where it has always been above all an agricultural country with many villages, or medieval cities with ancient elements. Where each region had their own regional habits and customs or languages for centuries.
The "pizza-size berets" mentioned in some comments below are the ones of the "Chasseurs" and "Chasseurs Alpins" troops : mountain troops staioned in the French Alps and recently deployed in Afghanistan and Mali. The nickname of these berets is "la tarte" (the tart, the pie) and it looks like the berets the shepherds wore in the mountains to protect their head from cold, wind and snow...
One night we took a midnight swim with friends in Collioure, only to realise there was a pack of these guys below us
The training is done in Collioure, close to the spanish border.
Warmer side of the isthmus 🌞
I know it well!!
As a Frenchman I can tell you that the t̶r̶a̶d̶u̶c̶t̶i̶o̶n̶ translation leaves out a lot but you deducted most of what was going on I'm impressed.
translation ^^ = traduction
Your comment added to the fun of the video
Hi everybody! The CNEC (Centre National d'Entrainement Commando = National Commando Training Center, strangely pronounced "snek", which makes it sound like "snake" in English (I guess that was the purpose of the strange pronunciation)) is based in Collioure, southern France, on the Mediterranean coast by and down the Pyrenees, close to the Spanish border, a very popular summer sea resort for many European tourists (when I was a kid, I remember watching the fireworks shot from the interior of the citadel you can see in the video for July, 14th, "Bastille Day" as the Americans call it, our National Day). They also have a fort in the Pyrenees mountains nearby called Mont Louis where the commandos train ...
Basically, it's an extension of the french concept of commandos.
There are special forces who do their stuff, and ordinary forces.
In the Army, two brigades had (and still have) a commando unit: the parachute brigade (parachute commando group) and the mountain brigade (parachute commando group).
The other joint brigades (armoured, mechanized infantry, and infantry brigade) had battalion recce companies.
These progressively turned into brigade recce units (with specialist coming from every battalion: forward air controllers from artillery, engineers teams, infantry men...), who share some tactics and skills, but also have a good knowledge of theirs brigade courses of action (amphibious brigades and armoured brigages with MBTs do not fight the same ennemy, nor the same way, nor get into action the same way).
That's why you have a GAE-B, GAE-A (G for group, A for support, E is for "engagement" which can mean deployment, or beginning of action, B is for Armoured, A for Amphibious)
And now these units lean towards commando courses of action. Maybe one day they will earn the "commando" word in their unit's name.
Bonsoir
Sorry , bug via Google traduction

5:35, We had this peel off tactic in Finnish CBRN Det. It was used only for mag changing when we needed to keep the momentum going.
We were pretty well trained for interchanging roles, not only for CQB tho.
Most of that was the stage commando which is a course, not their actual role!
I say this because France also has the GAE-A where the A stands for amphibious.
You should look at the "Forces spéciales le 13e RDP à Djibouti" documentary on the French army Channel
Since you watch video in French now although the automatic subtitles are a bit broken, I recommend you to watch :
"French Special Forces demo // Démo des Forces Spéciales 1er RPIMa et 4e RHFS - 14 juillet 2018"
You will find about a lot of equipment, gears, techniques, helicopters, etc..used by french special forces through a great demo/show.
PS : The 1er RPIMA is sometimes refered to as "SAS" because they were created as part of the british SAS during WW2. It was a french section in it when France was occupied by Germany.
14:32 you're exactly right: these guys will belong to an armoured recce unit, they not very likely to seize a bridgehead for an amphibious assault.
They are currently undergoing the basic commando training course which has a nautic component. It can help their executives to spot weaknesses in unfamiliar environment, see how the men behave and so on.
In operations, they will be 24 to 48 hours ahead of the tanks, before a major operation, collecting intel. They are not paratroopers, so they won't be drop ahead. But as you guessed, they have a better knowledge of armoured unit course of action, and they will be able to gather intel specifically relevant to the brigade with a bit more ease (eg: can my 40 tons tanks cross the river on these bridges => how much time a tank battalion will need to cross the river if only 4 bridges are available)
Thx Theo this is a new French 🇫🇷commando unit I have seen this
Merci.
FYI Groupement "d'aide" (pronounced the same as dead lol ) à l'engagement blindé = Armored Engagement Support Group. it's a unit created to facilitate the armoured engagement.
sometimes the auto translate make mistake. "groupement d'aide" translated by "group dead" lool it literaly should say "help or assist group". i'm still watching. Also the city you're looking for is called Collioure close to the city Perpignan. located in the south of France in mediteranean sea.
I would rather say "Support Group/team" ;)
@@leonidas.223 yes you're right
The place is a town called Collioure, southern France, on the Spanish border. It hosts the maritime part of the National Commando Training Center. The mountain part is not very far, In a place called MontLouis. I underwent two courses there.
Collioure is located on the Vermeille Coast, the Catalan area of France. The foothills of the Pyrenees mountain end straight into the sea. It is one of 2 locations of the CNEC centre national d'entraînement commando. Collioure is the nautical site, Mt Louis is the mountain site. Both are located in the department of Pyrenees orientales. The centers are run under the the interarms command and the training command. It is also used on a ponctual manner by the cpis of Perpignan for mission specific training
"Blindé" stand for "armored". So it can be both an adjective like un véhicule blindé = an armored vehicle or a synonym for an armored vehicle like a tank or an apc
Collioure îs such a beautiful place a part of family live there. We can seen commandos students practice in the village every weeks that's really impressive !
14:15 Well we don't have much information as it is still very new, I myself didn't even know they existed even though I was in the French army.
However I do think this unit might be used as some kind of support or in a mission with for example an airborne contingent and this sea born unit. That's my take on it.
The place you found beautiful is caled Collioure. It's incredible. But every infantry NCO has to pass that commando course, 3 weeks in mountainous warfare environment, and 1 week there, in Collioure. That to be qualified as an infantry NCO SQL.
And it's hell on earth. It's our version of hell week. Wet and sand chaffing 24/7, no sleep, half calories you need a day. It's the total suck. I'd rather go back to Afghanistan or Mali than to suffer this commando course again. It's GRUELING.
5:38 french streets are CQB lmao, if you walk here youll see a lot of reasons why this is practical. And tbh europe has a lot of similar streets so.
Thx for your feedback, very interesting.
This unit is made to clear path for armored and tank units. destroy AT units for example, see them as front line commando units that open the path. They also do recon under enemy lines on the futur hot spot.
Is it considered as a special force unit or an elite unit like the 75th ranger in the USA ?
A link for à realy good documentary about te bir hakeim battle (the free france contribution to the El alamein battle with colonial troop). The vétéran testimony are realy great! This version have english subtitle.
4:02 the side arm is a PAMAS G1: French built Berretta 92…pretty old at this point. It’s being replaced with Glock 17
1:16 🤣 d’aide=for help, not dead!
The eotech far in front is to keep Space to put à magnifier
A little explanation about the "questionnable holsters". These are the new holsters, designed for the new Glock pistols. But it would seem some holsters arrived before the pistols in that unit. Because they are still using the old MAC50. So it's an old MAC50 (yes, 50 stands for the year) in a modern holster designed for the Glock 17 Gen 5. It's probably a temporary arrangement, though.
Do one of French SNIO! Section Nautique d' Interventions Offensives (I suck at French) ! They specialize in getting to their targets using urban waterways. I'm not sure they still exist. They are the Recon element of the Engeneering Corps. I bet our Dutch 105th can learn stuff from them.
I like this video, it's a like a Call of Duty player looking at real soldiers, and he will smile and laugh every time he will see a professional reacting, looking forward.
Seconded. The US way of considering our way of doing war is laughable,to say the least.
Love youre vids really fun to watch.!
14:01 Yes, French Army is also training for amphibious assault 😉
terrible translaation from the youtube translator, but you figure out things by yourself, well done and glad you were able to understand
Great vid as as always glad you pronounced that in French I couidnt lol they are protecting the short dude at the back 😂
16:35 this is an Ob 70 nvg
Translation is on point 😂😂
Looks like they are on the Med, might be around Toulon, which is a major navy base, and surrounded by a mountain range. The French love their berets. On Armistice Day some of the old guys rock huge berets that are about the same diameter of a big pizza. They represent some very historic units. Don’t underestimate the French, Operation Serval was very well done. Allez les Bleues.
This is Collioure, I've been there many times.
@@mikepreamp6053 thanks I see it’s near Perpignan. Lovely part of the world.
It's definitely Collioure. Also Perpignan isn't that nice but Pyrénées orientales is very nice.
@@murphy7801 I like Perpignan. Sure there’s not much about it. However, it’s a few hours drive from me and I like the Spanish flavour to the place and people are very hospitable.
Ah sounds like been to the nice areas. I have a house in Pyrénées orientales if have use the city more often IV found areas you should avoid.
Never laugh at a man's (military) beret, many countries use them. Point of Trivia: the "Green Beret's" beret was (is?) from Canada where berets are used throughout the forces. Beret styles change and it can be almost an art forum to get a beret into a certain shape, kind of like a baseball mitt, off the shelf isn't good enough. When the Canadian Supply tech hands out the beret, the recipient is told don't cut anything off. The first thing you do when you get home (barracks or not) is you cut the tag off in the inside, remove the line around the base, wear the beret into a very hot shower, wet it done totally and form it to your head, then wear the beret for the rest of the day, take it off, wear it the next day while still wet so it shrinks and forms to your head.
It's 'help group to armored engagement'.
He’s probably short… even unit needs a short person … some times the big fellas can’t fit.. send in the shortie
7:22 the CNEC (Commando Training National Centre) is located in Collioure, in the Pyrénées-Orientales department (Occitanie region), south of France. So that's a mediterranean climate ;)
Catalans are not occitans
Did I say so ? No 😉 I just said where it is located, that's a fact. I didn't understand why they united two regions with no common cultural relations (except occitan-speaking) when they have catalan-speaking in there... why didn't they separate P-O from Occitanie and call it Catalogne or Catalunya ? Juste like they could do it for Pyrénées-Atlantiques and call it Pays Basque, just like in Spain, Pais Vasco... I'm sad that French State didn't consider Catalogne more than this and fuze it with a region they have no link with...
CAC talking French is really a mood 😂
My last name might be French but that's about as close as I get 😅
Excellent comme toujours
Sounds partially reminiscent of the current UK concept of Deep Strike Brigades, which are high skill combat reconaissance with enough punching power to deliver reconnaissance and fire deep into enemy lines. The UK however put an emphasis on using them to coordinate deep fire with artillery and guided munitions, while this video mentions tanks. In practical reality this may turn out the same though as the networking of long range firepower is obviously a key concept for every military.
Hi, if you are interested, here is a documentary ("Kaboul, l'incroyable exfiltration" 41:51 minutes long from BFMTV) during the 2021 evacuation of Afghanistan from the point of view of RAID police operators and other french forces. The French to English auto generated subtitles are comprehensible .
Great video, keep it up 🙏
Hey men if you need a more precise traduction of French videos feel free to ask me I’ll do it with pleasure.
The city is Collioure it's a butiful little town

Hey man I’m from canada and just found this out….. I don’t want to post a link but google Canadian production of war materials and it’s the government one. Big fan man
Your channel does have some unexpected benefits. I believe that an american getting interested in the armed forces of the other NATO nations gives the good message for the alliance.
Indeed, the main criticism of NATO is that it is the US army with its cheerleaders, which is not that wrong, but really doesn't help when it comes to unity in face of the world issues.
the place is Collioure
The automatic translation is funky... Google should improve it.
Also where it is, I think that's palge de port d'avall
2:45 a « béret » is actually a French word
For the handgun holsters: there this kind of « war » going on between instructor companies. Each one claiming they have the most modern and better approach. You end up with some stXpid stuff…
😅
but the official holster for the new Glock 17 is the Blackhawk T-Series LD3 DUTY
It looked interesting.
Vive la France 🇨🇵
Can you react to the Filipino Guerilla Fighters of ww2 in the Philippines
They trained at Collioure in the south of France, near the Spanish border, and yes it's beautiful . Sunny weather, the Mediterranean Sea and the Pyrenees mountain (not to mention the food).
Don't be so hard on yourself, your french pronunciation wasn't so bad, i heard way worse from people's thinking they actually speak french.
If you liked this you have to do a response to the French film "Forces Spéciales". Absolute corker. Trailer: th-cam.com/video/p3aX97vdVlo/w-d-xo.html

Short, skinny type guys are usually much better soldiers and survive a lot longer. Have you seen that American guy, a teenager actually, with the most kills during WW2? Big muscle men are such good targets. And they can't walk far. I always laugh when I see height criterias to join x or y army. They look good in parades tho.
CIty is Collioure
that's a cool video
J'adore 😍
You should create a twitter / facebook account related to your youtube channel 👍
I believe they first experimented with this type of unit in Vietnam back in the 50s but they found that the VC were really good at isolating them and cutting them to pieces in the terrain, in one famous example the VC disappeared 300 french and local airborne forces.

Hey man! i like your videos♥️ but i have request can you react sri lanka lrp 🙂
Going into the sewers is not new for the french army. I already saw a lot of videos about commandos units training in real sewers in some french cities. One of the training purpose is going from point A to B in the city at night without beeing spotted by civilians or others training soldiers playing the enemy role, so one of the tactics is to go to the sewers. That is pretty nasty because the sewers got all the shitty water, I hope these guys are equiped to do that.
There gear are pretty standard for now cause it's financed by the regiment or by the soldier himself. It takes years for some commando units like GCP or GCM to have a decent equipment
When we see how the russian armored regiments are struggling against the ukrainian guerilla, this kind of new unit could be very usefull in this situation. I guess the russians don't have it yet.
Looks like a light cavalry recon element. The stacked formation is for the enemy to save ammo, one 50 cal round from the front will get all of them lol.
😅

@@barberouge4324 I would agree from a German point of view...no, to be honest, French is quite hard to learn pronouncation wise. I just have a few leftovers from school time, but completely degraded, because too rarely used.
