  • This one is a doozy, we get down to the nitty gritty when it comes to promotions. The cancer that is comparison, the feeling of others getting promoted when you have more competition success or feel like you are progressing more, but you feel like you are being over looked. All the taboo stuff is here. We also talk about how long Chris took to get his black belt and how he did it in a faster than average time while starting at 45 Years old. Also some listener questions.

I’ll never forget that quote Bill mentioned it in another video.
Comparison is the thief of happiness is what he said when I asked about a similar topic.
Mine was based on your peers excelling but life is showing up for you and you can’t go as often or you’re sick more this season.
I apply that quote to EVERYTHING now. Thanks guys.

Lots of schools stringing people along just to get a few more payments out of them these days.... BJJ has become big business now........ and what's crazy is how a blue or purple belt now is way different than 10 years ago...... BJJ is changing.... for the better?.... time will tell.

Wouldn't belt promotions earlier help with retention? Not sure I agree with your point.

@@aw8oneperhaps not for the typical blue belt quitter. I’m a 41 yo white belt, started January 2022, and train 5-6 days a week for most of that time. Can’t ask about promotion, of course, can’t ask what expectations are. Weird stuff. Good thing I’ve settled into and enjoy being a sneaky white belt who can catch people off guard if they give me too much space 🤙
