    Leicester in the 1950’s & 1960’s
Lady Jane Grey pays a return visit to Bradgate - Rushey Mead boys go to Spain in a double decker bus - Simpkin & James have a closing down sale - Traffic wardens take to the streets - Rag Day in 1961 - Braunstone Carnival in 1967 - Thurcaston Road railway bridge comes down - old slum areas fall under the bulldozer - City Planning Officer, W.K. Smigielski, dreams of a commuters' utopia, complete with monorail and a mini Manhattan in Highfields.
The 1950s and 60s were years of great optimism following the privations of World War Il and the establishment of the “Welfare State”.
Captured on film and photographs, and in the memories of those who lived though it “Talk of the Town” shows us Leicester and its people in a time of great change.
Old housing gives way to new estates, old ideas are challenged by new attitudes and Leicester becomes one of Britain's first multicultural cities.
The video is an unforgettable album of moving pictures, music and memories of Leicester in the 1950s and 1960s. It is also ideal as an educational aid for all ages.
    Run time 49 mins.
